                                                                                          Overdose Deaths Accelerating During COVID-19
                                                                                              Expanded Prevention Efforts Needed

                                                                                             The highest number of overdose deaths ever
                                                                                             recorded annually in period ending May 2020

                                                                                          •   The latest numbers suggest an acceleration
                                                                                              of overdose deaths during the pandemic.

                                                                                          •   Illicitly manufactured fentanyl appears to be
                                                                                              the primary driver of the increases in
                                                                                              overdose deaths, increasing 38.4 percent

                                                                                          •   37 of the 38 U.S. jurisdictions with available
                                                                                              data reported increases in synthetic opioid-
                                                                                              involved overdose deaths.

                                                                                          •   10 western states reported over a 98%
                                                                                              increase in synthetic opioid-involved deaths.

What do we want you to know?

   • Anyone can be a victim

   • ‘Signs’ can be subtle or non-existent

   • There is no room for error with today’s pills

   • Marijuana has changed: “Dabbing” (vaping ) can be 80%+ THC, addictive, & cause psychosis

   Teen Mental Health
   • Trust your instincts

   • Professionals may not have the latest information

   • Find support from wherever you can get it

   • Getting adolescent mental health support is hard - don’t give up!
