BURTON 4-H CENTER 9 LEWIS AVENUE TYBEE ISLAND, GA 31328 FIFTH GRADE FIELD TRIP May 24 – 26 Loveless, Smith, Thompson, Mathews, Thomas May 26 – 28 Carden, Granger, Reeves, Fellows, Whitmire
PERTINENT INFORMATION This trip will begin for Loveless, Thompson, Smith, Mathews, & Thomas: Monday, May 24 5:30 a.m. and will continue through Wednesday, May 26 until approximately 2:00 p.m. Please be punctual at departure and pick up times. All calls will be made to alert parents of our arrival and departure. CHAPERONES ARRIVE AT 5:15 A.M.

All calls will be made to alert parents of our arrival and departure. CHAPERONES ARRIVE AT 5:15 A.M.
PERTINENT INFORMATION •*Students taking prescribed medications need to have a parent/guardian complete a medication form for each prescribed medication. These forms will be available the morning of departure, or you can pick one up at orientation. All medication must be in the original bottle with the students name clearly visible. *In the event that a student needs Tylenol, pepto bismol, • etc. Parents will be contacted for verbal permission.
TRAVEL TIME TRAVEL TIME WILL BE APPROXIMATELY 4 ½ TO 5 HOURS Burton 4-H Center is expecting us at 11:00 a.m. Therefore, we must depart promptly at 6:30 a.m. We will depart from Burton 4-H Center at 10:00 a.m. And we should arrive at PCES at approximately 2:00 p.m. We will be contacting the school periodically to give them updates.
WHAT TO BRING CHECKLIST • Raincoat or rain gear – ⚫ Hat or cap classes will continue in the ⚫ Pajamas event of rain. ⚫ Bedding(sheets and blanket or sleeping bag) • Light jacket ⚫ Pillow • Daily change of clothes ⚫ Towels (bring at least 2) (Some days you may need ⚫ Toiletries - soap, toothbrush, additional outfits for marsh or washcloth, etc. surf sleuth) ⚫ Bug Spray • Shoes (2 or 3 pairs) (Please ⚫ Sunscreen no flip-flops) An old pair for ⚫ 2 large labeled plastic bags (for wet the marsh and surf sleuth. clothes) Comfortable pair to keep dry ⚫ Water bottle

IMPORTANT ⚫ Please limit luggage to one suitcase, backpack or duffel bag, plus one sleeping bag or bed roll. ⚫ Pack only old clothes suitable for outdoor use. ⚫ Label all belongings. ⚫ Only old clothes are needed. New clothes may be ruined by heavy outdoor use! ⚫ Do not send valuables! Burton 4-H Center is not responsible for lost or stolen items ⚫ We hold classes in rain or shine (only lightning brings us in) so pack accordingly and be prepared.
RULES AND REGULATIONS ⚫ Listen to instructors and adults. A raised hand indicates that it is time to listen. ⚫ Shoes, wet or dry, must be worn at all times. ⚫ Absolutely no swimming allowed. ⚫ Phones are not available to students. ⚫ Do not leave money in the dorm. ⚫ No running, climbing, or bouncing ball on the A-Frame roof. ⚫ No students allowed on dock, trail, or marsh boardwalk without an adult. ⚫ No food or drink in dormitories. ⚫ Quiet hours are from 10:00 p.m. until 7:00 a.m. ⚫ Burton 4-H Center wants to keep your students safe and our grounds maintained. Your assistance in enforcing these rules is greatly appreciated.
FIRST AID ⚫ Though our staff is certified in First Aid and CPR, the responsible school must make decisions regarding a child’s first aid needs. ⚫ Due to UGA policies, our first-aid kit is stocked with latex gloves, bandages, gauze pads, a map to the hospital, and water proof tape; no peroxide, first aid ointment, tweezers, or eye drops are provided or readily available.
MEDICAL TREATMENT ⚫ A parental permission form for medical treatment is included in your packet. ⚫ Injured students will be taken to the Tybee Island Clinic on the island, the Immediate Med clinic in Savannah, or Candler Hospital emergency room in Savannah. ⚫ Transportation is the responsibility of the visiting school. ⚫ Family and/or school must provide medical insurance for participants. No medical coverage is offered through the Burton 4-H Center. ⚫ Tybee Island’s First Responder unit may be reached by dialing 911.
EMERGENCY CONTACT INFORMATION ⚫ IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION which may occur at home and someone must contact you or a child in your group, have them call Burton 4-H Center at 912-786-5534.
MONETARY NEEDS ⚫ CANTEEN ⚫ Burton 4-H Center operates a canteen that allows children and adults to purchase an assortment of snacks, drinks, and souvenirs. Most snack and drink items are priced between $0.50 and $1.25. Souvenir items are priced between $0.50 and $12.00. Canteen items can be purchased with cash only. (NO CHECKS) Please bring $1 bills and quarters for the canteen.
MONETARY NEEDS ⚫ DRINK MACHINE ⚫ A vending machine offering “sport” drinks and water is available. Drinks cost $1.25. The machine accepts crisp dollar bills as well as quarters. Money lost in the drink machine can be retrieved during canteen times. ⚫ Fresh, cold water is always available at the water fountains located throughout the camp. BRING A WATER BOTTLE LABELED WITH YOUR NAME.
TELEPHONE USE ⚫ Students are not provided access to a phone during their field study time at Burton 4-H Center. ⚫ Based on our past experiences, a home sick child allowed to call home worsens the situation for all involved. Adults may use their cell phones during appropriate times ONLY. ⚫ STUDENTS MAY NOT BRING THEIR CELL PHONES.
