Cambodia Update The following is an update on our Club’s work in Cambodia provided by David Finney: l Finally we have received the GG grant for stage 2 being primarily for the fish farm. All we have to do now is spend it. l Rithy has been subject to some real downers recently but we are confident he will be back on track soon. Without him, completing this project would be really difficult. l We have completed the Dam excavation, built the water tower and are soon to install the pump and water filtration system. We have also funded a small boat as part of the fish farm aspect. l The Dam is very fertile and the boat was needed early so that excessive plant growth in the Dam could be controlled. l BTW there is a real water shortage problem in the area and the Dam has been used as was intended in ancient times, namely as a water source. Not quite what we had in mind, but as a community project it is good to see that in the interim it is of real benefit. l We have also been investigating the prospect of solar lights for the Dam –these will attract insects the fish will feed on thus reducing the need for introduced feed. l As a security aspect we will have to build a small house on the edge of the Dam, for a family to live in, as part of the need to ensure the fish are not stolen. l A micro finance proposal has been accepted and will assist in future projects. l Some MBA students at Monash Uni (Caulfield campus) are working with us on some project analysis software they hope will enable easier financial reporting, and also in progress monitoring, and adjustments between various aspects. If/when this is done we hope it will be of use to all comers. Needless to say it will be free for not for profit organisations.
