Bosmere Community Primary School Best of Bosmere September 2020 Dear Parents/Carers, It has been truly lovely to have had a month back at school and have Bosmere full of children again! It hasn’t been without its challenges and the restrictions that have (quite rightly) to be in place have impacted on children and staff alike, however, we are all here and we are all learning and doing our best! The children certainly continue to seem to be happy to be in the routine of school life and provide many reasons to smile each day! The year started with the whole school reconnecting. Children learnt alongside others in their class or phase of classes, among other things, reading a beautiful book called ‘Here we are’ by Oliver Jeffers. This inspired lots of vibrant discussion and creative thinking, alongside some rather lovely activities and experiences. We also launched Jigsaw, our new whole school approach to PSHE and RSE, commencing with the theme of ‘Being me in my world’-it could not have been better timed! Enjoy our first BOB of 2020-2021! Mrs Green ☺ Beech Class-New experiences in Art Fern & Apple Classes Explore The children are using Indian ink (a first time using this medium) to practise drawing in response to and in the same medium as that used in The Boy, The Mole,The Fox and The Horse-a beautifully illustrated book about the bond between 4 friends. To start the term, we read the book 'Here We Are' By Oliver Jeffers. Another beautifully illustrated book which prompted lots of discussion in classes right the way across school. Fern and Apple Classes talked about how beautiful the world is and how important it is to look after Earth and everything on it. They went on a nature walk, looking carefully at the minibeasts, plants and trees-captivating aspects of the world of Bosmere outside of our classrooms. Mindfulness Journals As part of the launch of Jigsaw, the children have all created their own mindfulness journal, something they will contribute to throughout their time at Bosmere, adding to it year upon year. Aspen Class here are using a variety of art techniques to create their journals, the inspiration for which was 'Here we are' by Oliver Jeffers. In fact, children across the whole of our school have designed their own journals. Aspen class explored mixing and blending paints, sketched sea creatures and emotion monsters and used leaf rubbings to add detail.
Redwood enjoying their Jigsaw session for the week Gymnastics with Redwood Class LKS2 have been exploring body movement in Gymnastics. The children needed to travel and make different shapes with their bodies, concentrating to use carefully controlled movements. They used different numbers of points on their bodies to balance. It was quite tricky! Here Redwood Class are using Jaz, their Jigsaw piece, during their Jigsaw discussion session. If you are holding Jaz, you are able to share your thinking, thoughts and feelings. The children are looking inside themselves to reflect on achievements and These movements will build to making a sequence of goals. balancing actions and positions of stillness. She did not need to go too far to see Ash class dancing their hearts out to GoNoodle for their PE session! What a wonderful moment in Redwood class. The children were mesmerized by Mr Mckeon’s sharing of a poem from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory during their guided reading lesson. There were lots of giggles and laughing out loud. September in Reception Oak class have really settled well into School life at Bosmere. They have all been working hard on their independence (putting on their coats by themselves) and learning routines (such as having PE and eating in the Dining Hall). They have had a great time learning and collaborating in the classroom, outside area and in the forest!
