College & Career Center • Staff: Ms. Gibson & Mrs. Houston • Location: B202 • Hours: 7 AM-3 PM (I am usually in the office by 6:45 AM.)
Junior Year Timeline for College & Career • All Year • Take rigorous classes and do your best! • Research colleges. You get 2 College Visit days this year. • Attempt to narrow your list of schools to about 5 by the end of this school year. • Work on your resume in Naviance. • Attend College and Career Center events. Email must be correct in Naviance. Choose courses for your senior year wisely. Continue to take strong, rigorous courses. • Spring • Take your SAT and/or ACT (more information on following slides). • Consider completing a summer enrichment program (found in Naviance or college websites) • Register with NCAA Eligibility Center if you plan on pursuing sports in college. Talk to Mrs. Prejean or Coach Goodwin for more information.
SAT and ACT • The SAT and ACT are college admissions tests. If you plan on attending a four-year university, you need to take one of these tests. We recommend taking each one to see which test is a better fit. • If your student is in the Free and Reduced Lunch program then they will come to me for a voucher. • Register to take one or both of these tests in the Spring. • Check what each university requires for admissions on the university’s admissions website.

Parents, What do you Need to Know? Log in using the same site URL as your student, simply use your own username/password combo. When you log in, you will be able to view your students’ Naviance Student environment. Not all components will be active or visible. If you have more than one student in a school, use the Switch Child drop-down to easily change the student you are viewing. You can add comments to tasks and journals that are visible to you. View results for assessments like StrengthFinder, Do What You Are, and others.
College Visit Days • Attendance Information for College Visits • You get 2 CV days for 11th grade. • This is a great way for you to visit an actual college campus. • When visiting a college campus, make sure you make an appointment with the admissions department.
College Rep Visits to ORHS • Throughout the school year, we will have representatives from colleges here at ORHS to meet with you and answer questions you might have about that school. • Colleges will visit ORHS during Eagles Nest and/or lunches. • Students MUST sign up to attend a college visit. The next slide will give you instructions on how to do this.
