The trail section between Doane and Coast Guard Beach will remain open. Warning: Keep Wildlife Wild - This includes coyote and fox There have been serious incidents in the past few years involving bites to people and pets. Keep your distance and do not feed wildlife. Rangers have been responding to incidents of coyotes acting assertively toward people in attempts to obtain food. This behavior starts with people feeding the coyotes intentionally by leaving food out, or inadvertently by not removing food scraps and packaging from the beach. This leads to the animals becoming habituated and bold in attempts to obtain food. When wild animals lose their fear of people, they behave unpredictably and aggressively, resulting in injuries to people and a sad ending for the habituated animal. Keep wildlife wild. Protect your safety and the safety of others. Do not feed or attract wildlife! Report assertive coyote sightings to rangers or the dispatch center at 617-242-5659. Personal Care Products Drive For Helping Our Women No tricks, only treats for HOW as they kick-off a Personal Care Pantry drive Drop boxes will be at the Eastham Superette, Eastham Library, Provincetown Library and the HOW Office on Conwell Street, through October 29th. The need for personal care products is critical, particularly for HOW clients and women with families. Food pantries don’t typically have these items available and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) does not allow for the purchase of personal care products. The purpose of this drive is to collect personal care items that include: shampoo, conditioner, body wash, soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant and toilet paper. Women’s Grief Group in Eastham Helping Our Women will host a free Grief Group for women starting on Friday, November 5th Chapel in the Pines in Eastham. These sessions will meet 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM. Lucy Carlsen, LICSW, will facilitate 5-sessions on November 5, 12, 19 and December 10 and 17. This free Grief Group is an in person support for women who have experienced the loss of a loved one at any time in their life. Even though people may receive support from friends and family, the reason people join a bereavement group is to be with others who have also experienced a loss. The objectives of the Grief Group are to: Share your thoughts and feelings about your loss Experience support from the facilitator and other group members Learn to co-exist with love and sadness “Although grief can feel very isolating, we are committed to our vision of providing grief support to women on the Outer/Lower Cape”, states Gwynne Guzzeau, Executive Director of Helping Our Women an organization that educates, empowers and supports women in the towns of Eastham, Wellfleet, Truro and Provincetown who are living with chronic, disabling or life threatening health conditions. For more information or to sign up for the Grief Group contact HOW at 508-487-4357. There will be a confidential, in-take call with each person who registers. The last day to register is Tuesday, November 2nd. The Grief Group is offered at no-cost.
For over 28 years, Helping Our Women (HOW) has built a strong system of supportive services to meet the needs and empower women with chronic, life threatening or disabling medical conditions living in Provincetown, Truro, Wellfleet and Eastham. For this short visitation, the gallery will be haunted by the disturbing, sophisticated, nostalgic, and thought-provoking image, in keeping with All Hallows Eve. "Halloween is the artist's season, tailor-made for the creative. No matter the season, the artist's directive is to pull back the veil and lead viewers into worlds of their making, other dimensions fashioned with paint, clay, discarded items - whatever their magical tool," Curator Steve Bowersock says. "This exhibit is a bit 'trippy,' - and fun. Think 'Something Wicked This Way Comes,' 'American Horror Story,' and the simple joy of trick or treating." Bewitching Affair will feature the broadest range of subject matter yet presented at the Bowersock. There are children enjoying a night of marauding, disturbing images that shake the mind, political statements - their own form of horror, and beings of mysterious power. "This show is about the different, the unusual, and classic, an immersion in all things Halloween - funny, fierce and macabre," Bowersock says. "We'll have derelict ships, ghostly images, scenes of enchantment, bone-chilling figures, and things that rise from the ethers." "Bewitching Affair" features sculpture, paintings, and mixed media works. Artists will include Kishor Haulenbeek, Bowersock, Jayne Adams, John Brickels, Christopher Pothier, Erik Durant, Gretchen Woodman, Ellen Blomgren, Jeanne' McCartin, and others. It's time to treat yourself; don the conical crowning, head to Commercial St., and bask in the season's eye candy at the Bowersock Gallery.

Click here for The Commons Happenings This fall, Provincetown Commons’ board member, Pete Hocking, is undertaking a fundraiser to support our artist studios, co-working facility, meeting spaces and exhibition gallery. The project is called Field Guide: Walking & Painting on Cape Cod. Over the next six months, Pete will document his explorations of the landscape, culture, and natural history of Cape Cod, while also writing about his work as a landscape painter. Less about telling you where to go, the project will suggest how to go. Through this project, he wants to share his philosophy of being an explorer of worlds. Pete believes that even if we inhabit the same place, it’s less interesting to follow his footsteps as it is to encounter this place on your terms! For people who are able to make a donation to Provincetown Commons, Pete will share his explorations in a number of ways. Anyone who donates at any level will be invited to follow his weekly online journal. For anyone who can donate at $200 or above, he’ll also send you a physical version of his ‘zine field guide in spring 2022. For those who donate $500, in addition to the ‘zine field guide, he’ll send you an original 8 x 8 inch oil painting. And for anyone who can donate $1000 or above, in addition to the draft field guide, he’ll also send you an original 12 x 12 inch oil painting. The paintings will be delivered by the end of 2021. ABOUT THE ARTISTS Linda Marcus - My work is centered on fiber, it’s materiality and telling stories of domesticity, identity and memory. I view fiber is my collaborator. In some cases I work in concert with its material properties, in others I drape, stretch, pull, knot or sew it into it into submission. I believe fibers never let go of their history, even as they are manipulated into surprising new forms. I often take inspiration from nature; it's ability to create mass with layering and it's ability to create new and different shapes. In addition, I look to other materials, like photography and paint to see how they might “act” like fiber in an effort to expand my ability to create forms and shapes. It is this experimentation with fiber and the laborious process of weaving, winding, knotting or layering that creates a meditative mode for me: one that imbues me or binds me to the work created. It is a simultaneous act of validation and of devotion. Gioia Kuss - I explore relationships as a species and cultural beings have with the greater world, the environment, and to our own awareness. With an awe of nature, humility as an individual, respect for cultural diversity, and love of the world, I seek to examine the essence of life as an amazing feat that all organisms and earth cycles coexist in a balance of complexity, and the hope that our species will not irreparably destroy much of what I find sacred. Land figures largely in my world-view. Our existence is supported by our ability to find sustenance, nurture, and harvest gifts from land: some we support, some we take, and some we are losing. These facets of life within our society drive my practice, in support of dialogues that enhance spirit and life on this planet. Gioia come to us from Vermont. Angela Graham I am currently editing a collection of short fiction and hope to complete the process while staying at Edgewood Farm. My primary mediums are poetry and fiction and my work can often be classified under magical realism, light science fiction or speculative fiction (which are all pretty much the same thing.) I was very influenced by artists I knew as a child both within and outside of my immediate family. Becoming an artist was perhaps my therapy for having to live with them. (Just kidding.) Several years ago, I did a writer's retreat and I found an enlivening fluidity of inspiration in the company of other artists and I enjoyed it immensely. Angela Graham is a poet and fiction writer who is spending her residency at Edgewood Farm working on a collection of short stories. In 2017 she won the regional Joe Gouveia Outermost Poetry Prize. Angela also enjoyed participating in the Provincetown Library's annual Moby Dick Marathon Reading. Originally from Brooklyn Heights, N.Y., Angela has made her home on the outer cape since 2013. We are looking forward to listening to a draft of one of her short stories and hearing about her writing process during her stay at Truro Center for the Arts. This collection is one leg of an ambitious writing project to complete one novel, 24 poems and 12 short stories. 208 Bradford Street Provincetown, MA 02657 508-487-6411 / 941-350-7135 bertawalker.com
