Desire Lennox & Addington County, Ontario, Canada would serve as an ideal location for GeoWoodstock 2020. Our community has been hosting geocaching events annually since 2011, achieving MEGA status each year since 2013. We have attracted approximately 1,000 geocachers to each of our last 5 MEGA events. They’ve travelled here from across Canada, the US, Europe and from as far away as New Zealand. We’re currently the home of the only annual MEGA Geocaching event in the country, and the only one that uses the same community as its home base for each event. We have become the country’s go-to destination for geocachers, and we are known both for our hospitality and the wide array of geocaches (difficulty and terrain) found within the region. Hosting GeoWoodstock 2020 is the next logical step that will allow us to grow geocaching not just within our County, but also in our region, in our province, and in our country. You Had To Be There Yes we have! Co-founders of the Lennox & Addington Geocachers attended GeoWoodstock XVI in Cincinnati, Ohio and are co-chairing the Organizing Committee for GeoWoodstock 2020. Should our bid be successful, we will also have a representative attending GeoWoodstock 2019 in Fort Worth, Texas. They'll be sure to take ample notes to ensure that our event maintains the standard created by previous GeoWoodstock events. If our bid is successful, GeoWoodstock 2020 will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2020. For the purposes of setup and teardown, organizers have secured Napanee Fairgrounds for the Memorial Day Weekend from May 21st – 25th. Local Organization The Lennox & Addington Geocachers are extremely passionate about geocaching. They dedicate their time to maintaining an estimated 1,500 geocaches within the County, and add dozens more each year to keep the game fresh for annual visitors to the region. The Lennox & Addington Geocachers and Lennox & Addington County have partnered to hos t annual geocaching events since 2011. Our seventh consecutive MEGA will be held on August 17, 2019. Our core group of volunteers have been in place since inception and look forward to a new challenge. The Lennox & Addington Geocachers were formed in 2009 and have continued to grow the sport of geocaching each year since. We have a strong and dedicated volunteer base that is enthusiastically awaiting the chance to help organize a geocaching event of this magnitude . The assistance of other groups – including the Napanee Cadets, the Napanee & District Curling Club, Softball Napanee and the Lennox Agricultural Society – have also expressed interest in assisting in the planning and execution of GeoWoodstock. Venue Requirements The Napanee Fairgrounds is the perfect venue to accommodate the large crowd GeoWoodstock has come to expect. It is a 32-acre, geocaching-friendly property, 20 acres of which is treed greenspace. There are several buildings on the property that can be used for various purposes, including as shelter in the case of inclement weather. Two of the larger buildings have 10,000 and 25,000 square feet of floor space available. Similar to the annual MEGA events, GeoWoodstock 2020 would be hosted in partnership with Lennox & Addington County and the Lennox & Addington Geocachers. The County’s Tourism Office falls under this umbrella and will be a valuable source of assistance in the planning and execution of the event. There are two acres of paved parking available on site and many nearby lots are within easy walking distance. A vendor area is incorporated into the venue layout which will be outdoors. It will be moved indoors in the event of rain. The Napanee Fairgrounds is equipped with an excellent sound system at their main stage area. Additional PA systems are also available and can be utilized if required. GeoWoodstock 2020 Bid Application – Lennox & Addington County, Ontario, Canada 6

The County’s Community & Development Services Department is well aware of the economic impact generated by geocaching visitors and is keen to assist in any way possible to make the event a success. Revenues and expenses will be monitored through the County’s financial services department. Any profits generated from GeoWoodstock will be used to further advance geocaching in the community. Geocaching The quantity and quality of geocaches is definitely NOT an issue in Lennox & Addington County. We estimate that there are about 1,500 geocaches located in our County alone, with hundreds more in close proximity within the region. Our MEGA Event organizers pride themselves on regularly adding fun and unique caches every year. They’re well-maintained and keep cachers returning to our community. You can fill your fizzy grid many times over here in Lennox & Addington. Cache runs and bookmarked lists will be available for GeoWoodstock 2020 as well as some early- bird meet-n-greets at various locations in the County. At previous MEGA events, organizers have hosted geocaching-related history tours, stargazing tours (with night caches, of course) and water cache events. It’s expected that they would provide similar experiences again for GeoWoodstock 2020. GeoWoodstock 2020 Bid Application – Lennox & Addington County, Ontario, Canada 9
Other Items We are happy to work within Groundspeak guidelines and will use the url www.Geowoodstock.com link to our existing geocaching website and social media channels (ie. www.LandAGeocaching.com, www.facebook.com/LandAGeocaching/) for information and updates about the event. Organizers would be honoured to control the use of the GeoWoodstock trademark. All listings on the Geocaching event page or off-site website will have Groundspeak approval. As previously mentioned, lunch will most definitely be made available with paid registrations and act as a revenue generator for the event.
