BHS North West Camp - Information Aintree Racecourse: 8 - 10 August 2021 As the date races closer, come and join us at our annual BHS North West Camp, exclusively for BHS Gold Members. Held in the grounds of the inspiring Aintree Racecourse. With opportunities for riders to experience expert coaches, have some fun with like minded people and an exclusive opportunity to test out Aintree’s gallops there’s no reason not to join us! Whether you are a regular competitor or a happy hacker, our expert coaches will tailor sessions to meet your needs. You will be in groups determined by the experience and confidence levels of both horse and rider. You can tell us about yourself and your horse at the time of booking, so please provide as much information as possible. Riders will experience 4 hours of coached ridden sessions during the camp, delivered by our BHS Accredited Professional Coaches in both flatwork and jumping. Please note ‘jumping’ is not a requirement to attend this camp, the emphasis of these sessions will be on the other elements of riding a show jumping course not the jump itself. Our industry experts will deliver thought provoking talks and fun fitness practical sessions to get you fine tuning your technique, with your horse’s health and happiness at the centre of your own improvement. Topping off the camp will be the opportunity to compete in a no pressure Dressage test and Show Jumping Clear Round (you decide the level of each) with rosettes for all competitors. Followed by an exclusive opportunity to pick up the pace or cool off on Aintree’s all weather gallops! Your horse will enjoy the luxury of Aintree’s race yard stables whilst you rest your head in the Jockeys Accommodation with a comfy bed at the end of the day or, if you prefer, the comfort of your own lorry (hook up & Accommodation spaces are limited). The emphasis of camp is to improve knowledge and skill; after working hard you will enjoy, great food, fantastic facilities and overall fun and enjoyment! This training camp will run from 4pm on Sunday to 6pm on Tuesday. Meet our Coaches... Jo Birkbeck, BHS Stage 4 Senior Coach (BHSII) Jo completed her BHSII and furthered her training with Sylvia Loch, founder of the Classical Riding Club in the UK. Jo also trained and certified as a Monty Roberts Instructor during her time spent training and riding in California. Jo is an experienced and fun instructor who regularly trains, rides and produces horses using her extensive knowledge of horse behavior. Her main aim is to help horses and riders to gain the confidence to achieve their goals at all levels. Jo will be delivering our flat sessions and giving dressage feedback. Rachel Galley, BHS Stage 4 Senior Coach in Complete Horsemanship (BHSII) Rachel is an experienced coach catering for all levels of riders from grassroots to competition and BHS assessment preparation. Rachel regularly competes in affiliated Dressage and Showjumping with her home produced horse. She enjoys working with riders and horses to help develop better balance, gain confidence and build happy partnerships to achieve better results whilst having fun. Rachel will be delivering our jump sessions. All Coaches delivering mounted sessions at Camp are BHS Accredited Professional Coaches which means that they have professional BHS qualifications, attend regular Safeguarding & Protecting Children courses and are First Aid trained, DBS checked as well as being fully insured. They also attend CPD a minimum of every year. Safety Riding hats & body protectors must meet current safety standards. Meet our Experts... Equine Desensitisation with Lindsay Gaven National Mounted Police Advanced Instructor and Assessor and BHS Stage 4 Senior Coach This session will lead you through important questions such as where does your training start and look to at how to achieve the mythical ‘bomb proof horse’. “I work with various types of horses everyday in my profession as a mounted police trainer and also as a BHS freelance coach, there is no such thing as a bomb proof horse, but there is a horse which is well trained, and you know well. There will always be something your horse doesn’t like but if you train your horse well and consistently, they will answer any question you ask.” Every situation is a training opportunity, this session will start you on your road to training your horse consistently and clearly to maximise positive behavior in any situation. Rider Pilates with Horizons Physiotherapy with Gabby McGraw BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy, MSc Veterinary Physiotherapy, ACPAT (Cat A) HCPC Reg) Specialising in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy, Gabby has gone on to study a Masters degree in Veterinary Physiotherapy to give her an all round understanding of both horse and rider. Further qualifications include Pilates, Acupuncture, Musculoskeletal Medicine and Strength and Conditioning. Gabby is passionate about achieving the best from both horse and rider. She will deliver a non ridden balance session which will incorporate many Pilates elements specific to riding, working on exercises that can be replicated in the saddle. Hand outs with take home exercises will be provided so you can continue your practices at home. We are lucky to have Gabby as she is currently Physiotherapist for Great Britain Ice Hockey, regularly travelling with the team to world championships and international events. Her clinical, Physiotherapeutic approach to coaching will be a great asset to this year’s camp. Nutritional Consultation with Carrie Newman Competition and Leisure Horse Nutritionist Carrie has been a rider and horse owner for 23 years. Throughout her younger years she competed regularly through Pony Club in Area teams and now enjoys the happy hacking life with her 15 year old warmblood Zander. Attending Myerscough College and Warwickshire College Carrie extensively studied Equine subjects and has worked for Spillers for 4 years. Stabling & Accommodation Arrival is on Sunday 8 August between 4pm and 6pm.
