Welcome

Thank you for choosing a Disabled Wintersport Australia (DWA) snow sport program. This document
contains useful information about your DWA program, how DWA operates and what you can expect,
including an expected schedule, program inclusions and information on accommodation, meals and lift
passes. If you have any questions, please contact DWA.

Disabled Wintersport Australia acknowledges the Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as
the first inhabitants of the nation and the traditional custodians of the lands where we live, learn and work.
We pay our respects to ancestors and elders past, present and emerging.

DWA is child safe organisation and is committed to safeguarding and protecting young people.

Membership

All participants must be current Individual Members of DWA to take part in our program. To find out more
about DWA membership and to sign up visit https://www.disabledwintersport.com.au/membership/.

Your DWA membership card includes your medical and emergency contact information. DWA recommends
carrying your membership card with you when you’re on snow in case this information is required by ski
patrol.

DWA membership also provides a number of
other benefits that can be accessed outside of
our camp programs, including:

    • Lift pass concessions
    • Snowsport instruction concessions
    • Volunteer adaptive snowsport guides
    • Adaptive equipment
    • Accessible accommodation

Visit www.disabledwintersport.com.au for more details.

Participant Registration Form

Your organisation has the first duty of care to your clients and is responsible for managing personal care
needs. However, DWA does require information regarding your client’s disability and pertinent medical
information to assist us in making decisions regarding their ability, appropriate equipment, skills required
by adaptive snowsport guides, considerations for accommodation and meals (if applicable) and necessary
medical information in case of an emergency.

Your Participant Registration Form will be available at www.disabledwintersport.com.au/events. DWA will
send you the specific link when numbers are finalised. To fill in the Participant Registration Form each
participant must be a member of DWA and logged into the DWA website. Please ensure all your clients
attending the program have completed and submitted the online form to DWA.

                                                                         VICTORIAN CAMP PROGRAM OUTLINE

Accommodation

While at Falls Creek you will be staying at the new DWA Howman’s Gap Alpine Facility. This is located
approximately 5km from the Falls Creek village, on the left just before the resort entry ticket box. You will
be sharing a room with other participants on our program. Bathrooms are shared between each room and
are fitted with accessible toilets and showers.

If your organisation has requests regarding carer and participant sleeping arrangements, please inform
DWA when booking. Although we will do our best, as we are staying in a shared facility we cannot
guarantee we can fulfil your requests.

The rooms make use of bunk beds, so if there are any participants who are unable to use bunk beds, please
inform DWA well in advance to ensure everyone has the appropriate sleeping arrangements made.

Carer and Staff Expectations

The group will be at the resort for the whole day. Please make sure all participants, carers and staff have
everything they need with them as it is unlikely they will return to the accommodation before 4pm.

If a participant requires personal care, their carer must be available at all times to assist. The carer does not
need to be a skier or snowboarder, but must be available at an agreed location should they be needed for
assistance.

If the carer or staff member is skiing or snowboarding using a carer lift pass purchased through DWA (carer
lift passes are not included in the Friend/Parent/Carer/Staff price), they must stay with the group or
participant while on snow. The carer or staff member must still be available to assist with personal care at
all times.

Carer and staff lift passes
Lift passes for carers and staff members are not included in the price, however they can be purchased
through DWA for $85 per day. Please finalise your lift pass needs with DWA as per the booking timeline.

Cancellation Policy

DWA respects that your time is valuable, and we hope you understand that ours is too. As such we have
implemented a cancellation policy that respects the potential for injury and/or medical circumstances, while
ensuring that we are able to properly manage bookings.

Any cancellations made two months prior to the camp program will be refunded in full – including any
organisational deposit.

Any cancellations made less than two months prior to the camp program will be refunded less any non-
refundable costs and an administrative charge.

                                                                           VICTORIAN CAMP PROGRAM OUTLINE
                                                                                          FALLS CREEK 2021

Any cancellations made less than 2 weeks prior to the camp program will not be refunded.

If a participant is unable to attend the camp at any point until four days before the camp program, the
organisation may request a new participant take their spot. This decision will be subject to the availability of
appropriate guides and equipment and will be evaluated at the discretion of the Camp Coordinator.

If a participant or carer does not attend a camp without any prior notice, they will still be liable for the cost
of the camp program – regardless of whether they have paid for it in full prior to its delivery.

Clothing

A few tips on clothing for the snow:
    • The best idea for staying warm in the snow is to dress in layers. This simply means to dress using
layers of clothing (long sleeve top, then a vest and jumper, etc.) rather than one or two bulky
jackets. This not only keeps you warm but will allow you to regulate your temperature more easily
by having the option to remove or add layers.

    • If you do not have appropriate waterproof clothing for the snow, including gloves and goggles and
can’t borrow them from a friend, DWA has a collection of items you can borrow if you are staying
at Howman’s Gap Alpine Centre. Mittens are recommended for those who cannot easily straighten
out their fingers to fit into gloves.

    • Howman’s Gap Alpine Centre has a drying room to dry any wet
clothes after a day on the snow.

    • Bring a small backpack or sports bag to carry your extra layers
and a change of clothes in case you get wet and cold. Spare
gloves or mittens are also good to bring if you have some.

    • Sunscreen is essential.

    • It’s a good idea to have your DWA membership card with you on
snow as it includes your medical and emergency contact
information. This information is helpful for Ski Patrol in case their
        assistance is required.

Suggested packing list:

Alcohol, Drugs and Behaviour Guidelines

Alcohol is permitted for those over 18, however it is expected that it will be consumed responsibly and not
impact on others.

Under no circumstances is alcohol or drugs permitted to be consumed on snow. No one under the
influence of alcohol or drugs is permitted by DWA to undertake snow sport activities.

Smoking is not permitted in any building and butts are to be disposed of in designated trays.

Illicit drugs are not permitted.

DWA reserves the right to ask anyone whose behaviour is disrupting the enjoyment of the camp for the
other participants, to leave the program. No refund will be offered. Any damage to facilities or equipment
during your stay will be billed directly to the organisation.

All participants and carers engaging with on-snow behavior are expected to abide by the Alpine
Responsibility Code, as well as abiding by the rest of DWA’s policies which are available at on our website.

Health Care Insurance

DWA recommends that participants and anyone engaging in on-snow activity makes sure they get the
appropriate insurance to cover any injuries sustained while participating in snow activities. Given the
extreme nature of snow sports, there are inherent risks – which include the potential for physical harm. To
make sure you are properly looked after in the event of an incident, we recommend finding the appropriate
insurance for all parties.

Additionally, whilst not compulsory, DWA recommends all participants investigate the costs and associated
benefits of ambulance subscription. Visit www.ambulance.vic.gov.au to find out more.
