Club philosophy Hahndorf is a club that places great emphasis on community involvement and nurturing of junior players to become loyal and long-term club members. Whilst it is recognised that soccer is a competitive sport; positive outcomes can be reached in many ways. We define this positive outcome as someone who enjoys participating in a team sport, gains the benefit of exercise, skills and fun, plus being part of the community. 3

The competitive (Under 12 and above) age groups are where coaches introduce more skill-based learning and rules of the game. Codes of Conduct The Hahndorf Soccer Club has a proud tradition of fair play and good sportsmanship. It is committed to providing a positive, safe and fun environment that will encourage all players to develop their soccer skills and their self-confidence, while promoting fair play and the enjoyment of participating in a competitive team sport. To achieve this, it is important that all members understand and abide by the Club’s Players Code of Conduct and Supporters/Parents Code of Conduct as outlined. Players Code of Conduct • Attend training sessions and matches at times established by the coach. If unable to attend, inform the coach as soon as possible • Respect and follow the directions of the coach during training sessions and matches • Act respectfully towards coaches, officials, opponents and team mates. Abusive language is unacceptable • Respect the facilities and equipment of their own club and opposing clubs 12
• Violent behavior and any form of harassment toward any player, official or spectator is unacceptable Supporters/Parents Code of Conduct • Be supportive of the coach. The coach is generally a club member who has volunteered their personal time • Be positive and supportive of the player • Accept the results of each game and encourage the player to be gracious in victory and to turn defeat into victory by working towards improving • Avoid criticising the coach, other players and officials • Your conduct and language should reflect and support the Club’s ideals of good sportsmanship. Abusive language is unacceptable • Let the coach do the coaching, allowing them time to talk to players at half time 13
• Remember, the player is there for their enjoyment Junior Respect Program The Club follows the philosophy of the “Respect Program” – Respect your coach, Respect your team mates and Respect your Club. Guidelines to remember: • Listen – when your coach is speaking your mouth is closed; you can ask questions, however wait for your coach to finish and do not talk back or argue. • Pay attention – when listening do not get distracted by other players. This is for the enjoyment of everyone. If players choose not to be Respectful, then there will be a consequence: • Warning – you will be clearly told that you are being warned and why, • Yellow Card – suspended for half of the next game, or • Red Card – suspended for the next full game 14
In the event of a penalty, either the coach or junior coordinator will speak to the player/parent involved and explain the club’s program. With respect to either Card being received the expectation is that the player will still attend all training sessions and support their team on game day. If the player does not attend the ‘suspended’ game the Card will roll over to the following game. Grievance procedure If there are any issues throughout the season, whether it is with training, equipment, or experiences with your playing group, please discuss with your coach or team manager in the first instance. If the issue is not dealt with satisfactorily or persists please contact one of the club’s committee members. Hopefully we can work together to rectify any issues. 15
Training The overall responsibility for training will be with the coach, however Junior parents should be present at training. If for any reason parents are unable to stay with their child/ren they must inform the coach who is to be responsible for the child in the case of any emergency. The coach cannot provide assistance in an emergency as they are responsible for the whole team. Senior men, women and under 17s started training in mid-January. Training will continue throughout the season with days, times and venues to be confirmed. Some indoor training is also planned during the wetter months. Junior teams have traditionally trained on Wednesday nights, times and venues will be confirmed once teams are announced. 16
Uniform and Equipment The club will supply every player with a club shirt for use during the season and it will be the player’s responsibility to look after the shirt and return it to the team manager at the end of the season. Players are responsible for their own boots, shin pads, socks and shorts.
