Week commencing 18th January 2021 Beech Class Home Learning Morning work Each morning, we practice mindfulness, our PLIMS targets and do some exercise. Below are links for you to use. We also do Literacy, Phonics and Maths daily. Below is a range of activities for each subject. You can choose an activity to do from each subject each day. Talk about the story with another person. What can you see? What is happening? What will happen next? Who is your favourite character? What is your favourite part of the book. Here is a story communication board to help you talk about the book. You could even act the story out.
Week commencing 18th January 2021 - Reading with your child will enable them to increase their communication and comprehension skills. Choose a favourite book to read; try to sound out some key sounds and words. - Practice your pencil control. Here is a link to Twinkl containing lots of useful pencil control sheets. https://www.twinkl.co.uk/search. You could make this easier by tracing vertical and horizontal lines in mark making trays using rice, cornflour, icing sugar, hot chocolate or any other dry foods you have! You could make this harder by tracing key words relating to the topic or having a go at writing them yourself. - Beech class are also working on our comprehension skills. Answer questions about the book verbally or written down (e.g. what did Neil Armstrong leave on the moon?). You could make this easier by finding pictures to answer the questions. You could make this harder by creating a short summary of the book or retelling the story to another person using your own words and the commenting chart above. Phonics – This week, we are focusing on the sound /r/. - Use the resources on Oxford Owl to listen to words containing this sound and arrange sounds to make words https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/api/interactives/28367.html - Match pictures of /r/ words and repeat the sounds or words.
Week commencing 18th January 2021 - Practice pencil control using the sound /r/. Twinkl have some great workbooks https://www.twinkl.co.uk/search. You could use paper resources or try messy mark making in different dry foods or paint. - Go on a hunt for objects beginning with or containing the sound /r/. You could make this easier by choosing from 2 objects. You could make this harder by writing down or saying the names of the objects you find. Is the /r/ sound at the beginning, middle or end of the word? - Play games on PhonicsPlay to extend your learning. You could make this harder by choosing the correct object to give from a choice of 2 or 3. You could also make this harder by making 2 groups of objects and identifying which group has more and less. Count the objects to check you are right. - Practice putting an object in and on a container when asked. You could make this easier by practicing placing an object in and out. You could make this harder by describing where another person has placed the object. You could also make this harder by practicing placing the object quickly and slowly. Afternoon Work
Week commencing 18th January 2021 After lunch, we practice yoga. Afternoon lessons are completed once per week. Below are some activities for each subject. You can choose which 2 subjects to do each day. Science – This term, Beech class are looking at rocks, Earth and space. - Watch the video about different objects sinking and floating. Guess which objects will sink or float https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s2DTW0EMigk. You could make this harder by guessing why they float or sink. - Create your own sink or float experiment using rocks from your garden. Describe what happens when you put the rocks in water. You could make this easier by just observing the rocks sinking and floating. You could make this harder by estimating which rocks will sink and which will float. Topic – Beech class are looking at the first moon landing this term.

You could make this easier by matching pictures about the first moon landing. You could make this harder by using the blank frames on the Twinkl link to draw your own pictures and write key words. R.E. – This term, we are looking at the ways in which religious people show their beliefs. - This week, we are looking at places of worship. Use Google Arts and Culture to explore different places of worship for each religion. Choose from the list of places of worship below.

Week commencing 18th January 2021 things that you have that are different to others. That is what makes you wonderful! Computing – Can you remember the words forwards and backwards from last week? Watch and join in with the forward backward dance https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jf0P6X_HW_g and over the deep blue sea https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lCPJhybHBkA. - Practice moving objects forwards and backwards on command. You could make this harder by describing the way someone else moves - are they going forwards or backwards? Are they moving fast or slow? - You could play snakes and ladders and describe if you are moving forwards or backwards on each turn. - Pretend to be a robot, follow instructions to move forwards or backwards from another person and using the support of symbols. Art – This term, we have been looking at an artist called Kadinsky. He creates lots of colourful artwork using shapes and lines. We are now starting to make our own version of his art. - Look at Kadinsky’s artwork and describe the colours and shapes you can see.
Week commencing 18th January 2021 - Use sponges and other circle shaped objects to print different colours and create similar artwork. You could make this harder by drawing around circle shaped objects then painting within these lines. You could also draw your own circles then paint them to create your artwork. Give your work a name. Music – We are exploring dance this term. - Find your favourite songs on YouTube and get dancing! You could make your own dance routine and show / teach others. Create a dance group together and have lots of fun! - Make instruments using different objects in your house (pans and wooden spoons etc.) Make your own music! Life Skills – Use this opportunity to learn all about cooking, cleaning up and doing your fastenings. You could try helping with a meal by chopping, mixing and spooning food onto plates. You could also spend some time learning how to fasten your zips, buttons and do up your shoe laces. Have a fantastic week and I can’t wait to see what you get up to! Beech Class team
