Dementia Awareness Week 2021 Reflecting on the devastating impact, and true experience, of coronavirus on the dementia community, this Dementia Awareness Week we will be exploring 'Hidden voices, Hidden impact, Hidden cost'. So, let’s talk about dementia. Each day our blogs, podcasts, and articles will be uploaded at 9am so check back regularly. https://www.alzscot.org/DAW2021 To mark Dementia Awareness Week, we have a wide range of different activities, fundraising and awareness raising opportunities, for example, we have online events that are open to anyone who would like to join; some small, in-person outdoor groups and we are doing a Highland Challenge joining the three areas of North, South and West Highland. Details of all the events are listed below. If you would like to take part in any of the events see the contact details below. You can support Dementia Awareness Week in your local area and help us raise awareness of dementia and get people talking about dementia. Become a Dementia Friend, learn a little more about dementia and the challenges people can face; look at your online and community groups and see if they can be dementia friendly. Alzheimer Scotland makes sure nobody faces dementia alone in the Highlands. An estimated 6,500 people are living with dementia in the Highlands and their family carers also need support. We provide support to families through their dementia journey via our Dementia Resource Centres, Dementia Advisors, Link Workers, community activity groups, carers groups and 24-hour Helpline. Highland-wide Newsletter | Dementia Awareness Week 2021 2 Our NC500 Challenge Fundraising – All across the Highlands we provide advice and support to those living with dementia, their families, and carers along with our digital activity groups. To do this we rely on fundraised income so this year staff & volunteers from North, South and West Highland are going to collectively walk the number of miles of the NC500 route. Though we are not walking the actual route itself we will be keeping a tally of all the miles we do and sharing this with you. Fancy joining us in our NC500 challenge then let us know and we can add your miles to the total. To support your local area please use the Just Giving links below to make your donation. Thank you! Can you find Buddy – Buddy is joining us on our NC500 walk and may appear in some well-known landmarks along the way. Each day we will be posting a picture of Buddy in a different place on our Facebook pages. Can you guess where he is on the NC500 route? Though being a naughty dog, he may venture off the beaten path. Buddy will also be telling us some of the principles that Brain Health Scotland recommend to promote good brain health.
