Bearden High School Wednesday Weekly March 3, 2021 2021-2022 Course Registration Information Registration will begin on February 16th during your student’s 30 during 3rd advisory period. Your student will have daily registration assignments to work on to prepare for registration for next school year. Registration in Aspen will run from February 16th thru March 7th. Students will access all registration materials on Canvas in their class pages (Class of 2022, Class of 2023, and Class of 2024). Counselors will hold virtual offices hours the week of March 1st for quarantined and virtual students. Counselors will be in the West Mall Commons all lunch periods from March 1 to 5th to answer student questions about registration. Course requests are due in Aspen by March 7th. Contact your grade level counselor if you have any questions. Student of the Week Student of the Week recognition for this week goes to Ali Alsudani and Ashley Shuford. Congratulations! No additional yearbooks will be ordered and available for sale like previous years. Driver’s Permit Information Thinking of getting your drivers permit? Please consider the following guidelines to make your process smoother: v Pick up the SF-1010 form outside the guidance office door. v Complete the form with your name, address, and name of parent/guardian that will be taking you to the DMV. v Return the SF-1010 form to Ms. Davis in guidance. You must allow one day for it to be processed. v Return to guidance to pick up the form to take to the DMV. This form is only good for 30 days. IMPORTANT: We will no longer fax forms to you at the DMV. #beardenstrong
Senior Committee Senior Gift Drive The Class of 2021 Senior Committee is working with the Class of 2020 to continue a fundraising joint effort. Both classes have decided to raise money for the construction of a new awning over the entrance used by our Special Education students. Since COVD-19 has altered many or our traditional fundraising avenues we are turning to our community for support. Art Guild Do you enjoy painting murals, fun art crafts, or anything to do with art? Come join Art Guild! Meetings are on Fridays from 3:30-4:30 in Room 334. Bearden Choir Coffee House Bearden Choir is extremely excited to invite you to our first event of the 2020-21 school year - Coffee House! Coffee House is an event where Bearden Choir students perform independently prepared songs to showcase their individual talents! This event will also feature performances by our two acapella groups ‘B Natural’ and ‘Off the Chain’. Enjoy a warm cup of coffee and a sweet snack (donated from local businesses) while you listen to your favorite choir students perform. You won’t want to miss it! The event is Friday, March 5 at 7:00pm in the CTE Parking Lot. Due to Covid-19 regulations we will be offering this event in-person, but socially distanced. Firstly, the event will be held outside in the Bearden CTE parking lot. Attendees will be asked to provide their own seating options (lawn chair) to be seated outside. These tickets cost $5 per person. Alternatively, if you are attending with a larger social bubble (households, family etc.) or if you would like to ensure your comfort from the elements - you may also attend in your car for $20 per car. If you choose to attend this way, you will be given an FM radio frequency to tune your car radio and listen to the performers through the speakers in your car! Tickets must be purchased online by Thursday, March 4. Otherwise you can pay cash at the event Friday, March 5. To purchase tickets, click the following link: Tickets for Coffee House! BHS Orchestra Night at the Movies BHS Orchestra has a concert on March 4th in the BHS auditorium at 6:30 PM. It will be like a night at the movies with our selections from Pirates at the Caribbean, Star Wars, Jurassic Park, Aladdin, Indiana Jones, and some of your favorite Pixar movies. Bearden Theatre Advanced Classes Auditions • Musical Theatre Workshop: March 2nd from 3:45-5:30 pm • Musical Theatre Auditions: March 11th from 3:45-9:00 pm • Advanced Theatre Productions workshop: March 3rd from 3:45-5:00 pm • Advanced Theatre Productions auditions: March 12th from 3:45-6:00 pm • Stage Tech Interviews: March 8 & 9 from 3:45 to 6:00 pm #beardenstrong

Tennessee Association Conservation Districts Scholarships Seniors interested in majoring in Agriculture and encouraged to apply for the Tennessee Association Conservation Districts scholarships. Six $600 scholarships will be awarded. Applicants must be accepted to a Tennessee public university. Applications are due to Mrs. Bolinger on or before 2pm Friday, 3/12. Volunteer Girls and Boys State Applications for Volunteer Girls State and Boys State are now available in the Counseling Office. Juniors who are school and community leaders are encouraged to apply. All programs will be held virtually this year. Boys State is tentatively scheduled for the end of May. Girls State will be held from June 1st to June 4, 2021. All delegates are typically selected from the top thirty percent of the junior class of Tennessee high schools and should display the following characteristics: *High moral character *Outstanding leadership qualities *Scholarship *Interest in government *Community participation *Cooperativeness Students will learn leadership skills and run their own government during the program. The deadline to apply is Friday, March 12th. See Mrs. Bolinger in the College and Career Center if you have any questions. Art Classes Next Year Students interested in taking Photography, Honors Art, & AP Art next year need to apply for these classes. The deadline for applications is March 3. Digital Application information is available on the flyers hanging throughout the school. Students can pick up physical applications in room 332 or in the guidance office. If you have any questions about these courses, please see Mrs. May in room 332. Bearden Retired Teachers Scholarship Bearden Retired Teachers offer a $500 scholarship to a BHS graduating senior who plans to become a teacher. Must have a 2.8 or higher gpa. Two letters of recommendation are required. See Ms. Lesslie or Ms. Bolinger in the College and Career Center for an application. Deadline is 4/16. #beardenstrong
Scott “Impy” Memorial Scholarhip Seniors interested in pursuing criminal justice as a college major should apply for the Scott "Impy" Memorial Scholarship. The $1,000 award is open for any Knox County student. Applications are due 3/19. Shop Bearden HIgh School Store Warm Weather Reminders Please help us in reminding and thanking our students for staying strong with what they’ve done all year: wearing masks, hats and hoodies off from 8-3:30, shorts that are actually visible, shirts with sleeves, no outside food or drink (COVID restrictions continue), no food deliveries (COVID yet again), picking up their trash when eating outside, school starts at 8:30, and that students need a note to check-out or leave school during the school day. And if they tell you there is a skip day for any grade level, that is wishful thinking! Thank you! #beardenstrong
