THE CHALLENGES NGĀ WERO Choose from four Caritas Challenge themes for your event: Move It, Live It, Sweat It, and Stop It. You can decide on one specific theme, combine elements of each, or design your own unique Challenge. MOVE IT ME NEKE GO THE DISTANCE The Move It challenge focuses on understanding the difficulties faced by those who are forced to travel long distances to access basic needs such as clean water, food, healthcare and education. It is also an opportunity to gain insight into the obstacles faced by refugees and migrants, as they undertake long journeys to find a safe and fulfilling place to live. Caritas Challenge BASICS 2021 | 7
LIVE IT ME WHAKAORA EXPERIENCE LIFE IN SOMEONE ELSE’S SHOES The Live It challenge provides an opportunity to personally experience what it might be like to live in a make-shift shelter after being forced to leave your home. Experience what living without a home feels like and be in solidarity with the poor and vulnerable. SWEAT IT ME WHAKAPAU WERAWERA WORK UNDER DEMANDING CONDITIONS The Sweat It Challenge invites you to stand in solidarity with many of our brothers and sisters throughout the world who are forced to work in demanding conditions for little financial reward. 8 | Caritas Challenge BASICS 2021
STOP IT ME KĀTI GIVE SOMETHING UP Many people live without items that we take for granted, such as television, Internet access, mobile phones, and even sufficient amounts of nutritious food, warm clothing and adequate shelter. Give up something that you normally take for granted and develop empathy for those who are less privileged than you. Caritas Challenge BASICS 2021 | 9

TAKE UP THE CHALLENGE BY LIVING IT! Many people are forced to live in inadequate accommodation, either as a result of poverty or natural disaster. You could build a temporary shelter out of tarpaulins, cardboard and ropes and sleep out in it overnight. This will help you to develop a better understanding of the difficulties faced by those recovering from the effects of a cyclone, earthquake or tsunami, or the plight of refugees living in temporary camps. CST PRINCIPLE: SOLIDARITY We are all part of one big human family - one large wha- nau. We need to support each other and stand alongside each other, especially when people are in difficulty, wherever in the world they may be. 10 | Caritas Challenge BASICS 2021 12 2018
