BartholoNews 20 June 2018 www.stbarts.co.uk Issue No: 872 FORMER STUDENT COLLECTS GOLD AWARD FROM Those who achieve a Gold DofE Award volunteer, learn a skill, get fit, take part in a BUCKINGHAM PALACE week long residential and plan and undertake an expedition in Wild Country. DofE programmes enable any young person, aged 14-24, to develop key skills for life and work, such as confidence, commitment and team working. St Bart’s support the; Bronze, Silver and Gold DofE Award’s and students can start participating in the Award from Year 9. To find out more about the DofE please visit www.DofE.org YEAR 10 CADBURY WORLD TRIP On the 24 May 2018 former St Bart’s student, Howard Drury, was presented with his Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award from HRH Princess Eugenie of York, HRH The Earl of Wessex and HRH The Countess of Wessex in the gardens of Buckingham Palace. An excellent range of work was on display, including sculpture, conceptual art, packaging, design for print, illustration and fashion. All were in agreement that this was a great opportunity to find out about Art and Design pathways beyond 6th form and to collect ideas for their own project work. Year 9 & 10 Boys Athletics Team All these students plus Jayden Scott who still finish 4th in the South West of England won his 150m heat with an injured leg go The Year 9 and 10 boys athletics team through to the Berkshire County competition travelled to Millfield School on Wednesday 13 next month. June to compete in the English Schools Track and Field Cup South West Regional A Final. The boys performed superbly on the day and Mixed Volleyball v Downe House improved on their team score from the first Wednesday 13 June round by 34 points. Congratulations to the whole team, we are very proud of you. This was an excellent opportunity for a selection of our students who have been regular attendees at the Monday after school club with Newbury Volleyball Coach Sue Sayers. Our first home fixture was against Downe House who were also keen to have the opportunity to play a proper match following several weeks of training. Although we experienced defeat, the more sets that were played, the better the St Bart’s team performed, eventually winning a set against a talented and very tall Downe House team. Year 7 District Athletics A huge well done to all the Year 7 boys who took part in the U13 District athletics at Palmer Park last week, finishing 1st overall in the team competition, which was a fantastic group effort. This is now the third year in a row we have won the boys team competition!
