Wild, took up coaching at the age of 18, rising
through Oldham Athletic’s backroom staff, before
getting his break as the Latics caretaker manager in
December 2018. Just 10 days later, he was famed

‘giant-killing’, as the Lancashire side came from behind
to knock out Premier League side Fulham, who were
       then managed by Claudio Ranieri.

His successful spell as caretaker manager came to an
end, as the club appointed ex-Manchester United

later, he found himself back in the dugout becoming
the Head Coach on a full-time basis, where he guided
       Oldham to a 14th-place finish.

HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM US ALL AND WHAT A FAB XMAS PARTY AT THE HIVE WITH
GREAT FOOD, MUSIC, DRINKS AND A CASINO, IT WAS A BRILLIANT EVENING!

The following week saw our team Xmas party and another great evening
with the added spice of our karaoke king Tony Bartolo. Player awards
were awarded to Captain Steve Chittenden, team man Paul Strom and
club secretary Remo and after the awards there was great merriment.

We kick off our year soon, with a trip to Bisham Abbey, a charity invite
tournament for the Jacari charity that works with children who do not
speak good English. They help them integrate into society with free
tuition, it was originally founded in Oxford in 1956 as a Joint Action
Committee Against Racial Intolerance.

Now that most of us have doubled our body weight with chocolate, it
is time to get the heart pumping by joining us at The Hive for walking
football!

Players range from 50-86 years young and we offer fun kick-around
sessions and competitive matches for all age groups.

In a recent study, simply playing one hour a week, for three months,
enables players to cover 30 miles and burn 4,200 calories.

A significant reduction was seen in body fat mass and percentage body
fat during the same period. So come and burn off the Christmas excess
and join us!

We caught up with Bees striker Jack
Barham after our 0-0 draw with
Boreham Wood at Meadow Park on New
Year’s Day.

On being back in a Barnet shirt
“Yeah I’m really pleased, I am happy to be back
with the boys now. I feel fitter, sharper, stronger.
I had to go out on loan to get some games and
show people what I can do.”

On his performance
“I thought I did alright today. When it came to
me I looked after it, I gave it away a couple of
times, but I’m still learning.

“But overall I thought I did really well today!”

On his time with Dorking Wanderers
“Dorking play a similar way to Barnet, so that
actually helped me out. So I’ve learnt a lot.

“They play a 3-5-2 and they play football as well,
they pass it around. I learnt about getting in the
pockets and getting in behind when the time is
right. Overall I feel like I have learnt a lot”

On his goals for the new year
“Hopefully get us into the play-offs and win
those play-offs! Hopefully, I can help the team
get back to where they want to be.”

BOREHAM WOOD AWAY POSTCARD

We were entering the new year with a derby day at Boreham Wood which meant what felt like a very early
departure after New Year’s Eve celebrations the night before. My parents and I left Leeds around 10am to
head down the M1 to north London. We were parked in Boreham Wood’s car park just before 2pm which
was perfect timing for us to get in the ground for some food and grab a good spot on the terrace. We
enjoyed lunch whilst watching the teams warm up and the away end started to fill up nicely. By the time
3pm came, the 760 Bees fans were ready to cheer the team on.

The game started lively with chances from Jack Taylor early on. As the half went on, the game started to
settle down but we still had chances, with the opposition doing well to keep us out on 20 minutes. On 31
minutes, Fonguck’s shot hit the bar and just 6 minutes later Elliott Johnson took a beautiful shot from far
out which Ashmore did well to save. We went into half time 0-0 and I enjoyed a hot chocolate to warm me
up from the freezing cold. The teams came out for the second half in the hope of finding the goal. The
second half started more equal with us going forward as well as Boreham Wood taking their opportunities
too. On 76 minutes Jack Taylor took a wonderful shot which went just wide of the post and down the
other end it was Loach who was impressive, making a spectacular save to keep Smith’s shot out.
Mason-Clark and Vilhete were introduced into the game and in the closing minutes we threw everything at
it with many chances going forward and were unlucky not to score, our biggest chance being a header that
went just wide from Mauro. The game finished 0-0 and Currie and the boys came over to applaud the
 fans.

We took a detour via Barnet for some tea before heading back up North and arriving home around
midnight. Although it wasn’t our most thrilling game, we come out of the festive period unbeaten and with 2
 clean sheets. Onto Saturday’s game!
