Axon February 2021 Release Notes Overview This document has Axon product release information for February 2021, along with advanced notice of major upcoming features, updates and applications. Axon Evidence Updates The Axon Evidence February release is scheduled for Thursday, February 25, 2021. We do not expect any downtime during this update. Please refer to the Axon Evidence Maintenance Schedule on the Axon website for information on the update schedule times for your region. Note: The release for customers in Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom will occur on March 2, 2021. Please refer to the Axon Evidence Maintenance Schedule on the Axon website for information on the update schedule times for your region. Below are the details of what’s coming in the February Axon Evidence release. Subset Case Sharing Currently, when sharing a case with a partner agency, all evidence in the case is shared. With Case Subset Sharing, users can choose what evidence in a case they would like to include in their partner agency share. In the February release all customers can opt-in to use Subset Case Sharing and the feature will be enabled for all customers with the March 2021 release. If you are interested having this feature enabled for your agency before the March release, contact your Axon representative. Axon Enterprise, Inc. Page 4 of 22
Axon February 2021 Release Notes The Case Subset Sharing process is similar to the current Case Sharing process, with an added step for selecting evidence. First the user enters the case sharing details by selecting the partner agency and attachments. After clicking Next, the user selects the evidence to share with the partner agency. Axon Enterprise, Inc. Page 5 of 22
Axon February 2021 Release Notes Axon Evidence will track what evidence has been shared to which partner agencies, what evidence has not been shared to a given partner agency, and which partner agency has shared evidence to your agency. You can use the Case Evidence search filters to search for evidence that has been Shared To, Not Shared To, and Shared From partner agencies. Additionally, you can use the Shared To, Not Shared To, and Shared From filters on the Case Search page to find cases. See the Sharing Cases to Partner Agencies with Subset Case Sharing Enabled article on myAxon for more information. Configurable Case Retention Policies - Update Currently, all evidence in a case is retained until manually deleted. All customers can opt-in to use Configurable Case Retention Policies, and the feature will be enabled for all customers with the March 2021 release. If you are interested having this feature enabled for your agency before the March release, contact your Axon representative. Configurable Case Retention Polices allows you to choose from four different retention policies to control how your evidence in cases is retained. This feature allows users with the appropriate permissions to set a default retention policy for newly created cases, migrate all existing cases to this retention policy, and to edit the retention policy on existing cases. When a case is created, the retention policy for the case is set to the default retention policy for your agency. Users with the Edit Case Retention permission can change the retention policy for a case from the Case Detail page or for multiple cases from the Case Search page. When this feature is enabled, the default retention policy for your agency will automatically be set to Until Manually Deleted, to prevent changing the retention on any existing cases. Axon Enterprise, Inc. Page 6 of 22
Axon February 2021 Release Notes The four supported retention policies are: • Until Manually Deleted: This option maintains functional parity with the current system case retention and supports the ability to retain all evidence in cases forever. This is the default retention policy for every agency until it is changed by an agency administrator. • Longest Retention Period: The scheduled deletion date for the case is calculated by finding the longest duration category applied to evidence in the case and adding it to the most recent Recorded On date for any evidence in the case. • Specified Date: The user must specify a date in the future to set how long the evidence in the case is retained. • Individual Evidence Retention: The case does not impact retention and each piece of evidence in the case is retained based on its own assigned categories and Recorded On date. Note: Evidence in multiple cases will use the longest retention policy for the cases. The following images show editing case retention from the Case Detail page and from the Case Search page. Axon Enterprise, Inc. Page 7 of 22
Axon February 2021 Release Notes Agency administrators can configure a default retention policy, which is automatically applied to all newly created cases. Administrators can choose to apply the new default retention policy to all existing cases. However, this could result in evidence being immediately queued for deletion. The default retention policy is set by clicking Admin, clicking Case Settings, and then clicking to Edit the Agency Default Retention. Axon Enterprise, Inc. Page 8 of 22
Axon February 2021 Release Notes The new Edit Case Retention permission must be enabled for the appropriate roles, and can be set to allow users to modify the retention policy for any case or only their own cases. Third-Party Video Playback Support Update With the February release, we are adding support for third-party video playback in Axon Evidence for customers in Canada. See Third-Party Video Support for more information about this feature. Third-Party Video Support for Europe and Brazil is planned for later in 2021. Axon Auto-Transcribe Update At the end of February Axon Auto-Transcribe will be authorized as FedRAMP compliant. All US Federal customers will be able to use the auto-transcribe functionality on their own evidence. See Axon’s FedRAMP page for more information on the services and products that are included in the Axon's FedRAMP authorization package. Axon Enterprise, Inc. Page 9 of 22
Axon February 2021 Release Notes TASER 7 Cartridge Status Update This update adds deployment information for spent TASER 7 cartridges. The deployment information is shown in the State section under the Device Profile page for the cartridge. Axon Enterprise, Inc. Page 10 of 22
Axon February 2021 Release Notes Evidence Detail Page Updates This update changes how the evidence Title, ID, and Categories fields are edited on the Evidence Detail Page. Instead of having a separate edit option for each field, there is now a single Edit option to make changes to any of the fields. User Search Page Updates This change updates the User Search page to use the same format as other Axon Evidence search pages. The change adds the Add User and Import Users actions below the search filters and moves the bulk action buttons to the ... (More Actions) menu. As users are selected on the search page, the most common actions are shown to the left of the ... (More Actions) menu. In addition, the Export Results action has been updated to include the External ID field. This will make it easier to use the Import Users bulk update functionality for existing users. Axon February 2021 Release Notes Password Configuration Update This update adds options to set a minimum password age and to require a special character in user passwords. It also changes the order the settings are shown on the Password Configuration page. • Minimum Password Age sets the number of days a user must wait between manually changing their password. The setting can be set from 0 to 7 days, with a default setting of 1 day. This setting does not affect administrative password resets. • The require Special Characters option was added to the Password Character Requirements section. When enabled, users must include at least one special character in their password. This option is not enabled for current customers, but will be enabled by default for new customers. Axon Enterprise, Inc. Page 13 of 22
Axon February 2021 Release Notes User Password Update This update adds a check of the Minimum Password Age setting when a user manually changes their password. After a user changes their password, a message is shown informing the user how long they must wait before they can change their password again, and the Update Password option is not active. If the user has forgotten their newly set password and needs to change it before the minimum wait time, an agency administrator can still reset the user’s password. Axon Enterprise, Inc. Axon February 2021 Release Notes Axon Performance Updates In the February release Axon Performance is adding configurable Video Review Goal Cycle settings. These settings provide agencies with more flexibility in setting up their video review policies. The Review Goal Cycle settings determine the video review cycle length and the start date for a new review cycle. The current cycle information is shown below the Start Date field. When changing settings, the new cycle information is shown below the current cycle information. Changes to the Review Goal Cycle settings take effect immediately after saving. • The Daily option sets the video review cycle to occur every day. Axon Enterprise, Inc. Page 15 of 22
Axon February 2021 Release Notes • The Weekly option allows you to set the review cycle length in weeks and the day of the week the cycle starts. • The Monthly option allows you to set the review cycle length in months and then set the day of the month or the week and weekday of the month the cycle starts. Axon Enterprise, Inc. Page 16 of 22
Axon February 2021 Release Notes Agencies that are currently using video reviews will have their Review Goal Cycle set to Weekly, every 1 week on Monday. Download the Conducting Random Video Reviews and Interpreting Metrics PDFs for more information on video reviews and Axon Performance metrics. Note: The Review Goal Cycle settings will affect how often Review Goal Notifications and Weekly Review Summary Notifications are sent. If Daily is selected, the Review Goal Notifications and Weekly Review Summary Notifications options are disabled and cannot be enabled. If Weekly or Monthly is selected, the Review Goal Notifications are scheduled to be sent 2 business days prior to the end of the review cycle and the Weekly Review Summary Notifications are scheduled to be sent 2 business days after the end of the review cycle. The following images show examples of the Supervisor Review Goal Notification email and Weekly Review Summary Notification email. Axon Enterprise, Inc. Page 17 of 22
Axon February 2021 Release Notes Axon Body 3 Update In late February, Axon will begin deploying the Axon Body 3 camera Operating System (OS) v1.12 update that includes performance improvements and general bug fixes. This update will include the following fixes: • Cameras relying on Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) for location fixes were experiencing poor or delayed location information in videos. This update resolves the root cause of this issue. • Cameras were unable to acquire location fixes after being connected to View XL Standalone. This update resolves the root cause of this issue. Axon Enterprise, Inc. Page 18 of 22
Axon February 2021 Release Notes • Markers were being cleared from videos when the video metadata was edited using Axon View for iOS or Axon View XL (both Standalone mode and Fleet mode). This update resolves the root cause of this issue. • Since January 2021, cameras were experiencing increased rates of 1006 errors on the camera display, resulting in evidence not uploading. This update resolves the root cause of this issue. • The camera’s Front Triad LED would flash green for 10 seconds after undocking, even if the agency setting disabled the front LED. With this update the front LED respects the agency-wide Front LED setting after undocking and at all other times of operation. • Other minor bug fixes and stability improvements. Axon Fleet 1 and 2 Updates In late February, Axon will begin a phased deployment of the firmware update 1.25 for Axon Fleet 1 and Fleet 2 cameras. This update includes: • Disabled audible beeps whenever the Fleet 2 Wireless Microphone loses connection. • Improved collision detection sensitivity of the Fleet 2 Front Camera. • Improvement for an issue where the Axon Power Unit would continue to draw higher than expected power under certain shutdown conditions. • General bug fixes and system stability improvements including: o Improved RFI error handling to prevent camera shutdowns. o Improved handling of vehicular power surges to prevent camera shutdowns. o Improved Junction Box errors to prevent intermittent failures of camera to boot- up. o Addressed rare occurrence of the watermark timestamp missing a digit. o Miscellaneous bug fixes. Firmware Update Process The phased deployment will take approximately one month. You can view the firmware version for your cameras in Axon View XL by tapping the Settings icon and looking in the System Info section. Axon Enterprise, Inc. Page 19 of 22
Axon February 2021 Release Notes When the camera firmware update is available, it is automatically downloaded to Axon View XL and an Update button is shown to indicate the update is ready to install. Axon recommends installing updates at the beginning of a shift. To install the update, tap the Update button in Axon View XL and then tap Update Now. You can tap Postpone to dismiss the update notification until the next time the cameras connect. The update option will still be visible in the View XL Settings screen. When the update has been initiated, View XL will display the progress of the firmware transfer to the camera. Once completed the cameras will reboot and reconnect to View XL. Note: This firmware release also includes an update for the Fleet 2 rear camera controller. Once the Fleet 2 rear camera firmware update has completed the rear camera controller will begin its update process. The rear controller firmware update processes is shown by alternating the ring LED in an alternating red\amber pattern. This update should take approximately 30 seconds to complete. Note: If your system is configured for manual uploads, also known as Dock & Walk, your Axon Fleet cameras will receive firmware updates through the Axon Dock. NetCloud OS Update Axon is updating the minimum recommended Cradlepoint NetCloud OS version for users of Axon Fleet 1 & 2 from 7.2.40 to 7.2.80. Please note, Axon strongly recommends that for optimal performance, DTIM is set to 2 on the 5GHz radio prior to updating to a NetCloud OS version greater than 7.2.40. Axon Enterprise, Inc. Axon February 2021 Release Notes Coming Soon This section provides advanced notice about major upcoming features, updates, and applications that may require new or updated agency processes. Axon Cloud Services IP Address Allowed List Update Axon is updating the IP addresses for the United States region at the end of March 2021. This change does not affect the US Federal Region. • If your agency uses a firewall with an allowed list or to authorize specific approved websites, then your IT staff is familiar with how to ensure users can connect to Axon cloud services utilizing the new IP addresses. If you need more information on this, see the Managing Network Allowed Lists with Axon Cloud Services article on myAxon. • If your agency uses an allowed list of fully qualified domain names (FQDN), the recommended manner, then you should not have to take any actions. • If your agency does not control website access, then no action is required. This update adds the following IP addresses to the US region: • 52.227.251.64/26 (Actual range: 52.27.251.64 - 52.227.251.127) • 52.227.251.128/26 (Actual range: 52.227.251.128 - 52.227.251.191) • 52.247.153.16 • 52.247.159.196 Axon Evidence Case Sharing Improvements Axon Evidence’s Case Sharing functionality has been rebuilt to provide a more robust and reliable case sharing experience. This new version of case sharing includes the following enhancements and provides support for U.S. Federal Sharing and Subset Case Sharing: • Evidence categories are now copied to your partner agency as tags. The previous version of case sharing did not copy evidence categories. • The evidence owner is now copied to your partner agency as a tag. The previous version of case sharing did not indicate which user owned the evidence before it was shared. Axon Enterprise, Inc. Page 21 of 22
Axon February 2021 Release Notes • When cases are shared to groups, the group itself is added to the partner agency’s case access control list. The previous version of case sharing added each user in the group to the partner agency’s case access control list. • When cases are shared to groups, the system will choose a member of the group to become the case owner. The previous version of case sharing chose a monitor of the group to become the case owner. • When a case share is updated, the current owner and access control list members of the copied case are notified of the update. The previous version of case sharing would notify the original case share recipients. Axon Body 3 Settings Updates With the February release we are adding new settings to the Axon Body 3 Settings page. The new settings require Axon Body 3 camera OS v1.13, which is planned to begin releasing in Q2. These settings are disabled by default, and changing the settings will have no effect on your agency’s Axon Body 3 cameras until camera OS v1.13 is available. The new Axon Body 3 Settings are: • Video Recall - This setting enables the upcoming Video Recall feature, which would be applied to all agency devices. This feature allows authorized users to upload and review video captured by an Axon Body 3 camera when the camera is on but not actively recording. The recalled evidence will be of lower quality and without audio. It is saved to the camera buffer, which, with Video Recall enabled, is overwritten after 18 hours. More information about the Video Recall feature will be available in future updates. • Settings return to default in dock - This setting determines whether camera settings that users can change will return to default agency settings when camera is docked. Axon Evidence Usability Updates In upcoming releases, we will add usability updates to improve the overall functionality of Axon Evidence. Some of the upcoming changes include: • User Search: Update to remove the sub-menu items, since they were added below the search filters. Axon Enterprise, Inc. Page 22 of 22
