Welcome from The Mayor Autumn is a very special time in the Bathurst region when residents and visitors alike enjoy the explosion of colour that accompanies the changing of the season. It is a time that has long inspired artists and poets and that has drawn communities together as they celebrate the gathering of the harvest with feasting and events. Bathurst was the original food bowl of the fledgling colony of NSW and retains its strong agricultural connection with local produce amongst the finest in Australia, now lovingly prepared by an exciting new generation of local chefs. Indulge your senses this autumn and sample the very best the region has to offer. Autumn is also traditionally the time when the Bathurst region focuses upon its rich and fascinating past, with many of the region’s historic sights brought to life through a series of tours and activities. These provide a rare opportunity to go behind the scenes and discover the moments, events and characters that make up the story of Bathurst. Bathurst has played a major role in the history of Australia and the city and surrounding villages are rich with amazing stories. The heritage activities connect us to this history and remind us of the importance of knowing and celebrating our own past. This year’s program offers a wonderful range of tours and guided activities including the return of the fantastic Heritage Trades Trail on the weekend of 10/11 April, an extraordinary celebration of rare trades and craftsmanship against the backdrop of four of Bathurst’s most iconic heritage venues. The program concludes with Heritage Week, Proclamation Day and the inaugural ‘Festival of Bells’ in the heart of the Bathurst Town Square. I encourage everyone to celebrate the autumn season and to take every opportunity to enjoy the produce, the beauty, the events and the proud traditions of the Bathurst region. Cr Bobby Bourke Mayor of Bathurst
