AUTISM NEW ZEALAND HOODS UP WEDNESDAY Raising understanding, awareness and acceptance of autism. WEDNESDAY 13TH APRIL 2022 Would you like to support the autistic community in Aotearoa? Then we invite you to take part in Hoods Up Wednesday! Wear a hoodie and bring a small donation for Autism New Zealand, who walk every step together with the autistic community. Donation information and instructions on how to donate to us will be provided in this pack. Then take a picture and share it on your Facebook or Instagram with the hashtag #AutismNZHoodsUp.
WHY HOODS UP? Many autistic people experience sensory input like light and sound more intensely - wearing a hoodie with the hood up can help to block out anything that is uncomfortably bright or loud. Hoodies also tend to be made of softer fabrics, which is helpful for autistic people with sensitivities to touch and texture. Wearing your hood up for Autism NZ helps raise awareness that hoods aren't always aggressive or scary - they can also be tools to help autistic people exist more comfortably in a world that isn't designed for them.
