ASA Philosophy • The ASA Sports program strongly emphasizes the child first, the sport second. • Coaches have a tremendous impact on young people. • Success is not defined by winning. 4 7/12/2021
Sportsmanship • All coaches representing ASA teams must demonstrate positive sportsmanship in respect to his players, team parents, opposing team players, coaches, and the officials. • You are responsible for everyone on your team - parents, players, and coaches---You represent the League! 5 7/12/2021
Sportsmanship and Participation • The ASA Football Program regards bad sportsmanship as unnecessary and completely intolerable. • Sportsmanship is everyone's business. • Coaches are responsible for their teams (coaches, parents and players) behavior. • Good sportsmanship is a priority in the development of ASA athletes. • No player may play in ASA recreational football and in any other organized 11 on 11 tackle football league during the same season. • MINIMUM PLAYING RULE - Except for injuries, all players must start on either Offense or Defense and may only sit out 1 play per half.
Prohibition Against Playing on 2 Teams No player may play on any team in the Combined League if he/she plays in any other organized fall football tackle league. THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS RULE. If a player participates in a Combined League game and is found to also play on a team in a different organized fall football league, the team for which the player played will forfeit each game in which that player participated and the player will be removed from the league. Coaches that knowingly use a player that plays on multiple teams will be subject to disciplinary measures in accordance with the rules and by-laws of the member organization through which the team is registered. 7 7/12/2021
Team Formation Rules Prohibition Against Recruitment of Players from Returning Teams • Coaches may not actively recruit any player from any returning team regardless of that team’s status or expected status for the upcoming season. If a player played on an ASA or PSA team in the prior year, all Coaches should consider such player a returning player to such team and may not actively recruit such player unless or until the applicable Division Coordinator confirms otherwise. • Any Coach is found to be actively recruiting players from a returning team, will be subject to disciplinary proceedings in accordance with the applicable member organization’s rules and by-laws. Returning Players Guarantee • Subject to the process and limitations stated in the ASA Official Policies, any player wishing to return to his team from the previous season will be guaranteed a spot on that team’s roster for the upcoming season. 8 7/12/2021
Team Formation Rules (continued) Player Transfers • Any player who played for an ASA or PSA team in the previous season has the option to request placement on a different team for the upcoming season. Players requesting a transfer will be considered as an “individual registration player” and a new team assignment determined based upon the rules and by-laws of the member organization through which the player is registered. • In order to protect the overall competitiveness of the league, requests to transfer to a specific team cannot be guaranteed. A transferring player’s new team assignment will be dictated by the applicable rules and by-laws of the member organization through which the player is registered. 9 7/12/2021
Shuttle Players Shuttle Position Rule: A starting position designated as a shuttle player may be used. • On offense and/or defense two players may fulfill their minimum playing time as shuttle players. They must play that position for the duration of the contest. • The Shuttle position is a shared position and players designated as shuttle players will rotate every other play during the game while their assigned unit is on the field. 10 7/12/2021
Ball Carrier Weight Limits Division Maximum Weight D2 – 2nd Grade 80.0 lbs. D3 – 3rd Grade 90.0 lbs. D4 – 4th Grade 105.0 lbs. D5 – 5th Grade 125.0 lbs. D6 – 6th Grade 135.0 lbs. • The weight recorded for any player at the time he/she is weighed by league officials will be deemed official for the entire season. • All players with official weights less than or equal to the ball carrying weight limit may play any position without restriction subject to minimum participation rules. • All players with official weights above the posted ball carrying weight limit will be required to wear an approved sticker or marking on the back of their helmet. 11 7/12/2021
Ball Carrier Weight Limits (continued) • On defense, players with official weights above the posted ball carrying weight limit may play any position without restriction subject to minimum participation rules. All such players may advance a fumble or interception until tackled or forced out of play. • On offense, players with official weights above the posted ball carrying weight limit must play a “down-lineman” position (center, offensive guard, offensive tackle, or tight end) and be completely set at the snap of the ball. Players over the weight limit cannot line up in the offensive backfield or as a wide receiver, take a snap, go in motion, accept a handoff or lateral, or advance a fumble. A player over the weight limit playing tight- end may catch a forward pass thrown beyond the line of scrimmage and advance the ball after completing the catch. 12 7/12/2021
Team Weigh-ins & Player Age/Grade Certifications • All players MUST be officially weighed-in by either the league they registered through or ASA. • The ASA Team Weigh-ins are scheduled for Saturday, August 14th. • All players that did not play last fall via ASA, Rockwall/Heath, Wylie, or Little Elm MUST be age and grade certified. • ASA age and grade certifications will take place during the Team Weigh-ins. • A copy of the player’s birth certificate or passport must be presented to certify age. • A copy of the player’s report card or other school documentation from the last school year must be presented for grade certification. 13 7/12/2021
Eligibility Divisions − Kindergarten (K) and first graders are eligible for flag football only. − To play in Division Two, a child cannot be 9 years old prior to September 1. − To play in Division Three, a child cannot be 10 years old prior to September 1. − To play in Division Four, a child cannot be 11 years old prior to September 1. − To play in Division Five, a child cannot be 12 years old prior to September 1. − To play in Division Six, a child cannot be 13 years old prior to September 1 Explain details − Players are not allowed to play up a (one) division without AFL Board for approval. Decisions will be made on a case by case basis. Communication • All inquiries to the Combined League should be originated by the Head Coach and directed to the appropriate Division Director as assigned by their Football Board. • If the Division Director is unable to resolve the issue, the matter is to be escalated to the member organization’s Commissioner for review. • The Commissioner, at his/her discretion, may refer the matter to the Football Board at large, escalate the issue to the Oversight Committee, or defer to the appropriate authority as needed for resolution. 15 7/12/2021

This Season We are excited to continue our partnership with the Rockwall, Heath, Wylie, Little Elm & Forney youth tackle football leagues for the fall 2021 season. This partnership makes ASA football one of the premier recreational youth tackle football leagues in Texas! ASA tackle football teams will play games in Allen, Heath, Rockwall, Wylie, Little Elm, and Forney. All teams are guaranteed 25% of their games at their home stadium. All Saturday tackle games are played in turf football stadiums. Weeknight bye games may be played on 100-yard grass football fields.

Sponsorship • Teams keep 80% of sponsorship money, ASA charges 20% up to $100 for administrative fee. • All sponsorship money must go through the ASA office. • Sponsorships are tax deductible. 20 7/12/2021

Dealing with the Heat • A heat related illness occurs when the body is not able to regulate, or control, its temperature. If left untreated, a heat illness can lead to serious complications, even death. If detected and treated early, however, most serious problems can be avoided. 29 7/12/2021
Dealing with the Heat 1. Proper Hydration Pre- and post-exercise hydration Drink water and electrolyte drinks Limit excessive caffeine consumption 2. Keep Cool Use ice towels Wear light-weight, light-colored clothing 3. High Risk Athletes Overweight & unfit athletes have a tendency to overheat. 4. Stay Healthy Eat a well-balanced diet Salt food lightly, if not hypertensive Monitor weight before and after each practice session Monitor urine: Clear or light yellow for color of urine Get plenty of rest 5. Practices • Conditioning Practices (June 20 - July 10) 3 events per week, 90 minute limit per practice. • Preseason (July 11 - August 7) Unlimited number of team practices, 2-hour limit complete by 8pm. • Season – (August 8 – November 13) – 4 events per week. 32 7/12/2021
