APS Milestones EOG Results Grades 3-8, Proficient and Above • On 2019 EOG tests, APS students achieved their highest overall rates of proficiency since GADOE implemented the Milestones assessments in 2015. The district-wide percentage of students scoring proficient and above increased in all subjects compared to 2018. The largest year-over-year increase was in ELA (+3.3 percentage points). Only students in grades 5 and 8 take the Science and Social Studies assessments. 4

This brief includes aggregated data from winter, spring, and mid-month Milestones administrations. In 2016, APS switched from the Coordinate Algebra assessment to the Algebra I assessment, and from Analytic Geometry to Geometry in 2017. 5

Summer Academic Recovery Academy Elementary: PreK – 5 Full Day Schedule: 8:00 AM – 2:30 PM • Session 1 (Morning): Implement district selected academic recovery programming focused on literacy and mathematics and provide social emotional and behavioral wellness supports for all students, four hours per day, five days a week at the designated in person elementary school and virtual sites. • Session 2 (Afternoon): Offer APS Power Up programming (i.e., Artportunity Knocks, Inc., STEM/STEAM, Digital Citizenship, Conflict Resolution, Executive Functioning); approximately 90 -120 minutes per day, five days a week **Students who do not attend the academic recovery portion of the day will have the option to attend the Power Up program and families will have to provide transportation to and from the program site. 9
Summer Academic Recovery Academy Middle School: 6-8 Full Day Schedule: 9:05 AM – 4:05 PM • Session 1 (Morning): Implement district selected academic recovery programming focused on literacy and mathematics and provide social emotional and behavioral wellness supports for all students, four hours per day, five days a week at the designated in person middle school and virtual sites • Session 2 (Afternoon): Offer APS Power Up programming (i.e., STEM/STEAM, Digital Citizenship, Conflict Resolution, Executive Functioning); approximately two hours day, five days a week **Students who do not attend the academic recovery portion of the day will have the option to attend the Power Up program and families will have to provide transportation to and from the program site. 1
Academic Recovery Academy & Course Credit Recovery High School: 9-12 Full Day Schedule: 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM • Academic Recovery Academy: Implement district selected academic recovery programming focused on literacy and mathematics and provide social emotional and behavioral wellness supports for all students, four hours per day, five days a week at designated in person high school and virtual sites • HS Content Course Credit Recovery: Implement course credit recovery program at designated high school sites. Students can participate in credit recovery course work, as well as earn elective credits, such as Health and PE 11

Partner Support • Continue to collaborate with Odyssey, Georgia Tech - CEISMC, Emmaus House, Atlanta Police Department and others to support the Power Up programming for students 13
Next Steps • Work with APS Office of Communications to develop and implement a communication plan for internal and external stakeholders • Collaborate with the APS Data and Information Group to implement an external program evaluation 14

Appendix Other APS Summer Offerings 2021 • Xanadu is a summer enrichment program for gifted and high Xanadu achieving students offered by the APS Office of Gifted and Talented Education. Academic content is implemented via fun and engaging experiences for students. (In Person and Virtual) • Level Up Math is a summer enrichment program that is Level Up Math available to all APS rising 7th and 8th grade students, who qualify. This program is offered by the APS Secondary Mathematics Department and provides access to higher-level mathematics course work during the summer so that students can engage with pre-requisite content standards. This program provides students with content-focused engagement around transitional standards in preparation for participation in either Accelerated Math 7B/8 or Algebra I. (In person and Virtual) • APS must provide Extended School ear (ESY) services to all Extended School students with disabilities (SWD) in order for them to receive a Year (ESY) Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE). ESY provides services beyond the typical school day and/or year and is not limited to just the summer months. The school-based IEP Team determines whether a student requires ESY and if so, what specific services and when those services will be provided. (In person and Virtual) 16
Appendix Other APS Summer Offerings 2021 • Summer Bridge – Rising 6th Graders: A summer transition Summer Bridge – program that is developed to address the unique needs of Rising 6th Graders: rising 6th grade students and outlines teacher and administrator expectations at the middle school level. The program is intended to foster communication and build a sense of community amongst students, teachers, and staff which will be the foundation for a strong middle school experience. (In Person) • Summer Bridge – Rising 9th Graders: A summer transition Summer Bridge – program that is developed to address the unique needs of the Rising 9th Graders: rising 9th grade students and outlines teacher and administrator expectations at the high school level. The program is intended to foster communication and build a sense of community amongst students, teachers, and staff which will be the foundation for a strong high school experience. (In Person) 17
Appendix High School (9-12) Summer Offerings: AP/IB Bootcamp • The AP/IB Boot Camp is designed to help students develop the skills needed to successfully complete advanced placement and/or IB courses. The boot camp will provide experiences that encourage teamwork and build communication, organization, critical reading and writing, and problem-solving skills. (In Peron and Virtual) • The Science and Math Summer Enrichment Academy Science and Math (SMSEA) provides access to higher-level mathematics Summer Enrichment and science course work at the secondary level as Academy (SMSEA) students complete one math or science core course for a full high school credit during the summer. (In Person and Virtual) 18
