Supporting Youth Singers of Calgary Youth Singers of Calgary (YSC) enables creative minds to find themselves and their voice through choral music education and theatre arts programs. Through their activities for young people (ages 3.5 and up) YSC sparks a lifelong interest in the performing arts and fosters creative growth in structured and supportive “Youth Singers helps you environments. grow as a person, not just as a performer.” Sing. Dance. Act. Those are the tools we use. But everyday, we are creating community leaders and fostering teamwork, leadership, - Stephanie B. (Alumni) self-esteem and confidence.
By the Numbers Youth Singers of Calgary • 10,000+ performers through the doors since 1985 • 35,000+ volunteer hours each year • 100+ performances every year • 500+ registered performers each year • 30+ special needs youth in our STAR (Special Talents in Arts and Recreation) program • 45+ youth enrolled each year supported by bursaries
Supporting Performing Arts Youth Centre The Performing Arts Youth Centre (PAYC), home of the Youth Singers, is a vibrant community arts space that is used by several arts groups on a regular and single use basis. PAYC provides much needed affordable rehearsal, performance, presentation and meeting space for local Calgary community groups and visitors alike. PAYC, which opened in 2009 after a $1.8 million renovation of an old warehouse, was purpose-built as a rehearsal and performance venue to meet the needs of YSC and to offer affordable space to community art groups in Calgary. PAYC currently has 7 weekly renters and 20+ monthly and occasional users. Amenities include: • Four studios and various meeting rooms • Costume Shop • Pianos in every studio and in boardroom • Set Building Shop • Staging Platforms & Choral Risers • Music Lending Library • Audio Equipment (with YSC sound tech) • Recording Studio • Over 400 chairs for seating Some of PAYC’s regular renters include vocal groups such as: Fresh Blend, Rhythm of the Rockies, and Vocal Motion; and dance groups such as Casey O’Loughin Irish Dance and Vykrutas Ukrainian Dance Society.
About HEARTS OUT Eat your heart out. Drink your heart out. Get your wallet out. Creativity and innovation are born from challenging times, which is why we’re excited to share a new vision for our 2021 HEARTS OUT fundraiser. Funds raised through HEARTS OUT at HOME will go towards supporting youth, YSC, the Performing Arts Youth Centre and YSC’s mission to create a permanent community hub for youth and the arts and leadership development through the Crescendo Capital Campaign. The goal of Crescendo is to bring the already successful PAYC into the public trust, making it a permanent community performing arts space in Calgary. To date, we have raised $1.6 million HEARTS OUT 2018 Jack Singer Concert Hall of our $3.1 million budget. *HEARTS OUT is recipient of the ILEA Esprit Award in the category of Best Event for a Non-Profit Organization!
