From the Board The Board of Positive Women Inc. wish to acknowledge the suffering of the Muslim community in the recent terrorist attack, and the courage of the survivors and first attenders. Our member in Christchurch has been helping with support and floral tributes and attended the moving Remembrance Service at Hagley Park. Our hope is that the tragedy has led to an increased understanding of Islam and awareness of the danger of stigmatisation, including that of people living with HIV. In March I attended the International Lesbian Gay Bisexual Trans and Intersex Association Conference (ILGA), in Wellington and met with HIV activists from around the world. We were fortunate to be addressed by former Prime Minister Helen Clark, who discussed the importance of decriminalisation in the journey to Ending HIV. I was reminded how fortunate we are in comparison to our Asia/Pacific neighbours. U=U becomes irrelevant if there is only one viral load testing machine in the capital and many people live on distant islands, as in Vanuatu. The challenge of education and support when a country has more than 800 dialects, like Papua New Guinea. Or the overwhelming fear of stigma resulting from religious colonisation as a barrier to testing and accessing treatment, in Tonga and Samoa. However we also heard about creative initiatives and the power of working collaboratively. The Board looks forward to meeting our members and supporters at the HIV Women's Seminar in June. Caroline on behalf of the Board. 4

This month the Morningside Urban Market Garden (MUMG) participants and working group visited three inner city community gardens for an educational tour. They learnt valuable information from the different gardeners on land management, pest control, soil quality, irrigation and New Zealand produce seasonality. Each garden gave the women a different perspective on how it contributed to the local community in different ways such as income, mental health, community involvement, environmental, shared resources and food. Three inner city community gardens visited were: Dignan Street Community Garden in Point Chevalier. Kelmarna Gardens – Organic Community Garden and City Farm in Grey Lynn/Herne Bay and OMG in Symonds Street 12
MUMG is a community project teaching and sharing market gardening and business skills among migrant and refugee women by growing hyperlocal microgreens and edible flowers to sell to local cafes in Morningside, Auckland. , MUMG also helps to reduce social isolation by growing a sense of purpose and belonging in the community, while also sharing skills and profits among those doing the work. 13
