Diploma Verification Report (DVR) Students were given their DVR in class this week and asked to go over it with their parent, sign it, and return it to their counsellor.

Transcript Verification Report (TVR) Go to www.bceid.ca to register for a basic account Purpose of TVR: ° verify information sent to the Ministry ° double check you meet all graduation requirements ° you are responsible for ensuring information is accurate ° see your counsellor to fix any errors Grads must download their official final graduation transcripts from the Ministry website via Student Transcript Services. These official transcripts will NOT be automatically sent to grads!! Record of successfully completed Gr. 10, 11 & 12 courses

Provincial Exams ± NO Grade 12 Graduation Literacy Assessment this year. ± Numeracy Exam was written in Grade 10. ALL students must write the numeracy exam. If your grad has not written the numeracy exam, they must sign up with their counsellor to write it.

How to apply for Admissions ± Apply on line ± Need PEN, desired Faculty (1st, 2nd choice) ± Pay Fee (Credit card) ± Self-Reporting – use Transcript Verification & update quarterly ± Check status ongoing
± Admission Averages ° Based on Gr 12 and sometimes Gr 11 courses ° 4 to 6 courses specific to faculty– each school has its own list ± Self-reporting grades (if required) ° Use Quarter Grades each quarter What about ± Electronic transmission of grades my grades? ° Student Transcript Service Indicates which schools to send your grades to ° Filled out in CLC 12 (Career Life Connections) ° Marks made available automatically to those schools selected ° Final Grades – sent in the summer

Alternate Pathways to a University Degree ± Missing Prerequisites? ± Low grades? ± There are many ways to end up with a university degree other than direct entry from high school to a major university ± Many smaller college/universities have lower admissions averages, smaller class sizes, and direct transfer opportunities to university ± Some colleges and universities offer ways to upgrade and/or take pre-requisite courses

Accepting an Offer ± Many schools extend offers throughout the Spring in multiple rounds and well into the summer ± Different programs offer at different times, so don’t worry if you friends have heard and you haven’t ± Each offer will come with an acceptance deadline – you need to officially accept the offer before this date ± You will likely need to pay a deposit when you accept the offer – you can accept offers at more than one institution (except in Ontario) but it will cost you ± All offers are conditional – read conditions of each offer carefully ± All offers are confirmed in July once final grades have been released by Ministry to institutions

Reference Letters ± Students often require letters of reference for scholarships & bursaries ± Students should think about which teacher knows them best and can best speak to the specific strengths and experiences. ° Remember, teachers write reference letters on a voluntary basis ± Students should ask teachers well in advance to give them time to write a thoughtful letter. ± Students should be prepared to provide a resume or other information to support the letter.
