\ Term 4 Newsletter 14/20 12 Nov 2020 Phone/Absence Line 04 902 5596 office@raumatibeach.school.nz Dear Parents and Guardians Winter seems to have made a reappearance this week! Hopefully as we race towards the end of the term it will improve. With just on a month until the 2020 school year finishes it certainly does promise to be a sprint to the finish. I have included a calendar of some key dates for you to reference later in the newsletter. There may be some that I have missed that are team level specific. Please look out for information from your child’s teacher through seesaw etc. While on the topic of Seesaw, this will cease to be used from the beginning of 2021. We are shifting entirely to our new online platform Educa. This will be used by teachers to not only communicate with you but also share assessment information and learning. If you have not yet signed up to Educa please ask your child’s teacher for more information. STAFFING We are pleased to announce that Mrs Allie McHugo and Mrs Kate Hudson-Gill have been appointed as Assistant Principals. Allie will focus on the Year 1 to Year 4 areas of the school with Kate’s focus being the Year 5 to Year 8 area. We are very much looking forward to having Allie and Kate as part of the Kaitiaki team. We also say farewell to Shona Pengelly who is retiring after 21 years at Raumati Beach School. Shona has had many roles including: Team leader of what was then called Team C (Year 5 & 6) Taught from years 5 to 8 SENCO – Shona saw her role develop from what was one or two mornings a week to full time in recent years Reading Recovery Teacher Run choirs and full school productions Art Splash coordinator Shona was also passionate about students who had dyslexia as well as other learning challenges, she championed the use of a number of online tools such as Steps, Quick 60. Shona was also invited to be the key note speaker at a conference in Rarotonga for teachers and teaching assistants. Shona has given many years to education and helping those students who needed that extra support. We acknowledge and thank her for the dedication she has shown. We wish her all the very best with her retirement and hope she enjoys the Tauranga climate, lifestyle and most importantly time with her family.

EDUCA A reminder to parents and whanau to ensure you have access to Educa-our new information sharing and communication platform. Educa is a digital platform that enables students to share their learning with parents and whanau, providing 'real time' learning information. Last term, students shared a writing learning story with their families via Educa. This term they will be sharing a mathematics learning story. The term four learning stories will be shared with you during week 6. Teachers will also be sharing end of year progress and achievement reports with parents, through Educa. The reports will be available from Thursday 3rd December and will include class placement information for 2021. Finally, from 2021 Educa will become our main communication portal between home and school. We will be posting all class and school information on Educa, so please make sure you are connected and have access. Please contact your child's teacher if you have any queries. COMMUNITY CHRISTMAS MORNING Please mark this date in your diary: Tuesday 8th December- 8:45- 10:00am. As the 2020 school year draws to a close, we would love you - our community to join us on Tuesday 8th December to enjoy some festive fun. Our attempts at community events have been somewhat thwarted this year by a certain pandemic, so fingers crossed we can join together this time! We will have the coffee cart onsite at school from 8:45am and bacon will be sizzling on the BBQ so you can grab a coffee and a bacon buttie on arrival at school. We invite you to stay a while - perhaps join in with some carol singing and view the team Christmas trees, which will be on display in the learning street. We also hope to have the garden in bloom for you to admire. There will be spot prizes for those in fancy dress. Fancy dress can be either something Christmassy or a NZ summer theme...families here is your chance to get creative! We will also be collecting cans and other non-perishable food items to donate to the food bank so any items you may be able to donate would be greatly appreciated. We are really looking forward to coming together as a community, so we hope to see you then. TREE DONATIONS At the end of 2019, Team Kapiti was donated 100 native trees by the team at Kapiti Explorer after our trips to Kapiti Island. After a year of care at Mrs Keating's home, and the last few weeks in John's shed, they were finally big enough to plant. We had a strong team of Year 7s, who had a great time learning how to plant correctly, use a spade, and the wonders of compost. Big thanks to those parents who were able to lend a spade for the day. YEAR 3 & 4 AUGUSTINE FUNDRAISER The Year 3 & 4 Team is passionate about teaching and learning and preparing students for their future ahead. They are currently raising money for a pod of Chrome books in each class so they are able to diversify and widen the range of learning experiences they can offer your children and help prepare them for Year 5 & 6. Augustine, a popular women's clothing label, has kindly offered to put 20% of the proceeds of any of their 'Alaska' products purchased with our schools code towards the Chrome books. There are 100s of beautiful designs to choose from and Christmas is coming fast! Help support the Year 3 & 4 team by purchasing an 'Alaska' product. Go to: https://www.alaskatees.co.nz/ and put in the code: raumatibeachschool in the coupon code box.
