SUPPORT SERVICES
Emergency Aid
Angelina College students may apply for student emergency aid through their AC Portal.
We define an emergency as a temporary and unexpected expense that, if unpaid, may
force a student to withdraw from class(es) or be unsuccessful in a course. To initially
qualify, students must be currently enrolled at least part-time and have at least a 2.0
      GPA.

AC Perks
The AC Perks program is for students in a Career or Technology field (health careers,
some programs in Business; Technology and Workforce; and Graphic Arts). Gas and child
care assistance reimbursements are given on a first come, first served basis.

Student Pantry
Located in Student Center 206, the Angelina College Roadrunner Market is the
judgement-free campus pantry, available to all enrolled students. We offer non-
perishable food, as well as essential items. Students may visit the pantry once a week.

Clothing Vouchers
The Family Crisis Center Thrift Store in Lufkin and Nacogdoches and the Rose Cottage
Resale Shop in Lufkin will be providing Clothing Vouchers for our campus community.
AC employees can help! Simply drop off unwanted clothing or household items at FCC,
or contact Rose Cottage by phone or Facebook for more information about
donating clothes to their shop. Be sure to apply your donation to the Angelina College
Student Affairs account when giving to Rose Cottage.

➢ To apply for Support Services:
            Login on the AC Portal
            Select Student Services tab
Complete the Student Support Services Application

MENINGITIS INITIATIVE
The Angelina College Foundation provides aid to uninsured students in need of the Bacterial
Meningitis vaccination, an admissions requirement for ages 21 and under. Applicants to AC can
request a Voucher through the Office of Admissions or Student Affairs. Vouchers must be taken
to the Angelina County Health District to receive the vaccination.

STUDENT ORIENTATION & PROGRAMMING
A new, New Student Orientation is in the making! Mandatory student Title IX Training has been
added, as well as updated informational videos. We are proud of this work and all who are
making this happen. In addition, we have completed six Residence Hall Orientation sessions and
will offer International Student Orientation in September. Our goal is to exhibit care and support
for our students, while providing key information and resources for student success inside and
outside the classroom. Student Programs and opportunities will continue to develop throughout
the semesters. Contact our Office for more information.

STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS
Campus starts with our students. Each student has a unique perspective to share, and we
encourage them to expand that perspective by leading and participating in student government,
clubs, organizations and activities. In addition, there is a full calendar of art shows and other
events. Keep an eye on the school’s event schedules and activities. We encourage students to
create their own organizations if they would like! Contact Jordan LaCaille for more information.

DIVERSITY & INCLUSION
In Student Affairs, we strive to promote efforts that provide healthy and equitable policies,
procedures, practices, resources and initiatives for the well-being of our campus community and
the well-being of all individuals. Ensuring AC is actively pursuing and reaching our diverse
student population and bringing all students into unified community is a powerful and essential
campus mission. Thank you for choosing to be part of AC’s “Culture of Caring” and joining us to
support and serve our AC student body.

BEHAVIORAL INTERVENTION
➢ IF SELF HARM OR HARM TO OTHERS IS AT RISK, CALL CAMPUS POLICE AT 936-676-2563.
The Retention Module is an accessible tool to report mental health and behavioral concerns to
our Office. The Behavioral Intervention Team also works to assess and develop campus safety
and protocol. Additional measures and methods will be communicated as they are available.
Watch for the opportunity to sign up for Mental Health First Aid Training. We encourage all
employees campus-wide to attend this very informative course to improve our awareness,
education and response to mental health.
   • A 2020 poll by Chegg.org found that “half of all students reported experiencing anxiety, one third
reported experiencing depression, and almost a quarter said they knew of someone with suicidal
thoughts since the beginning of the pandemic.”
   • A report by the Student Experience in the Research University Consortium reported that 35% of
undergraduate respondents screen positive for a major depressive disorder. More specifically, the
report highlights that depression among undergraduate students is more prevalent among
minorities, poor and working-class students, caregivers of children and adults, and people in the
       LGTBQ+ community.
   • A year after the start of the pandemic, more than 80 percent of college students admitted they
continued to experience increased stress, anxiety, or both, according to a study by TimelyMD.

At Angelina College, we take pride in looking out for one another. Our most recent challenge is
protecting ourselves and our community from COVID-19. To assist in this goal, we can take
several simple steps to ensure this year is safe, productive, and free of speed bumps.
   • Get vaccinated for SARS-CoV-2.
o The COVID-19 Vaccine is the most effective method of protecting you and those around you.
   • Wear a face mask when indoors
o People at high risk or who have weakened immune systems may NOT be protected even if they’re
fully vaccinated. However, a face mask can help to protect them.
   • Social Distancing
o Maintaining a distance of six feet can protect yourself and others from the potential spread, which
is very important for those at high risk of getting sick.
   • Wash your hands often for 20 seconds at a time
o It’s especially important to wash before eating, touching your face, using the restroom, leaving
           public places
o Hand sanitizer will work if you’re unable to wash your hands
   • Monitor your health daily!
o Be alert for symptoms. Watch for fever, cough, shortness of breath, and other COVID-19
           Symptoms.
   • When Sick, Stay home.
o Except to get medical care!
o Stay hydrated and get plenty of rest. Use over-the-counter meds to help with symptoms.
o Separate yourself from others to protect them from potentially getting sick.
o Stay in touch with your doctor.
