Safety Plan Approved 12-AA-2021 2021 Western Zone Sectional Championships This competition will be held Mar 19-22, 2021, at Cactus Park Aquatic Center (Cactus Park; 7202 E Cactus Rd, Scottsdale, AZ). Eligibility: Swimmers who are members of USA Swimming and part of the Western Section (Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Alaska, Hawaii); Arizona based swim teams will comprise a majority of swimmers in this competition. Format: Two sessions per day with a maximum of 150 swimmers per session. Meet Size: Maximum of 150 swimmers per session. Safety: We have a plan to keep swimmers safe, socially distanced and have procedures in place following local safety protocols. The safety plan includes maps/photos to show how we will utilize the pool area and the outside/park area to provide enough areas to maintain proper spacing/distance. We have protocols and procedures in place to limit the total number of people (swimmers, officials, volunteers, etc) on deck at any given time. Spectators will not be allowed inside the venue. We will provide a livestream of the meet for people to watch from home or off deck. Face coverings will be required at all times while on deck (swimmers, officials, volunteers, spectators). Event Order: Session 1 – Friday, March 19, 2:00-6:00pm Session 2 – Saturday, March 20, 7:00-9:45am Session 3 – Saturday, March 20, 10:00am-12:45pm Session 4 – Sunday, March 21, 7:00-9:45am Session 5 – Sunday, March 21, 10:00am-12:45pm Session 6 – Monday, March 22, 7:00-9:45am Session 7 – Monday, March 22, 10:00am-12:45pm -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Below is a description of our protocols and procedures for the event. The CDC has stated that swimming (especially in an outdoor pool) is a safe activity to participate in. We have run several events successfully with the included safety protocols. These protocols will be followed for the this event to ensure the healthy and safety of all attendees. Our top priority is to make sure the event is safe for all of those in attendance. A majority of those attending our event will be from the state of Arizona. There will be swimmers/teams from other states in the Western United States (see above). All teams/swimmers invited to participate in this event have been following strict health and safety protocols. This will help ensure that those attending the event will be familiar with our procedures and expected to follow through. Crowd Control Competition: During the meet, each event will include approximately 50 swimmers. Competitors will be allowed into the warm-up pool 15 minutes prior to their event/heat to prepare for their race. Swimmers will be allowed into the warm-up lanes (see map) for 10 minutes, then proceed to staging area for their race. The staging area will have seating for three heats (8 swimmers per heat); seats will be placed at least 6 feet apart; after the heat in the pool finishes their race and exits the racing area, the swimmers in the staging area will advance one “area”, maintaining 6 feet separation at all times. When swimmers complete their race, they will be allowed to use the warm down area for up to 10
12-AA-2021 minutes and then exit the pool. These procedures will limit the total number of swimmers in the pool area at any given time. Swimmers in the warm-up/cool down lanes will be limited to 4 swimmers per lane to stay safely spread out. Meet Personnel: There will be a total of 50 meet personnel during competition; 8-10 timers, 6 officials, 4 meet admin; 8-12 meet marshals (spread throughout the facility to maintain flow of participants; remind participants to stay spread out; control when participants are allowed in the pool; etc); 12-16 coaches. All of the meet personnel will be required to wear face coverings at all times and will be spaced out at least 6 feet apart while helping in various capacities. The meet personnel will keep a distance of at least 6 feet between themselves and the athletes at all times. Team Area: Team seating areas will be assigned throughout the facility. Each team will be given an assigned “area” for their swimmers to sit. The area will be large enough to ensure the swimmers are able to maintain a distance 6 feet apart from one another. Each swimmer will be assigned a “spot” within their team area for seating between events. Competitors: A majority of the swimmers competing in this event will be from the state of Arizona. All teams participating have been following strict guidelines during the pandemic, so the participants are used to the protocols and procedures we have in place for this event. Safety Protocols All attendants (swimmers, coaches, meet personnel, etc) will be required to wear face coverings at all times when not in the pool. Swimmers will take face coverings off immediately before entering and put face coverings back on immediately after exiting the pool. All attendants will maintain 6 feet distancing from one another at all times. There will be signs, posters, etc, reminding everyone to wear masks, wash hands and stay properly distanced. Hand washing/sanitizing stations will be placed at entry/exit points and at various locations around the facility. Self-monitoring for Covid-19 symptoms will be required from all attendants before going to the event. Anyone showing symptoms must stay home. They will be removed from the meet and sent for Covid19 testing. We will regularly sanitize/disinfect high traffic areas (entrance/exit points, staging area, timing area, officials area, etc). Swimmers are to arrive and leave in their competition attire; changing in the locker rooms will not be permitted so we can avoid having groups of swimmers in enclosed areas. Restrooms will be sanitized regularly throughout the day to keep sanitized and safe for use.
