Application for PAL+ Spay/Neuter, Vaccine, and Microchip Assistance for Dogs & Cats What the PAL+ Program Offers: The PAL+ Program covers the cost of spay/neuter surgery minus a $20 co-pay for cats and $25 co-pay for dogs. These prices include post-surgery pain management for cats and dogs and e-collars for dogs. PAL+ clients are able to purchase the rabies and the distemper combo vaccinations for a discounted price of $7.50 per vaccination as well as microchips at a discounted price of $15 per microchip. If approved, you will be an active PAL+ client for six months, allowing time to have your animals spayed/neutered, to take advantage of the special vaccinations and microchip price and receive vaccine boosters. Medications for common conditions (dewormer, ear mite treatment, etc.) may also be available at our regular low-cost prices. Why is it important to spay/neuter animals? • About 2.4 million healthy, adoptable cats and dogs—about one every 13 seconds—are put down in U.S. shelters each year. Often these animals are the offspring of cherished family pets. Spay/neuter is a proven way to reduce pet overpopulation, ensuring that every pet has a family to love them. www.humanesociety.org/issues/pet_overpopulation/ • Pyometra is an infection of the uterus (womb). It is a common condition in female dogs that have NOT been spayed, and can occur in un-spayed dogs of any age. Occasionally we see cases occurring in cats. This results in a trip to the emergency hospital where it can cost thousands to save the animal’s life. This life threatening condition is completely preventable by spaying your pet. • In addition, there are many behavioral and other medical benefits to having your pet altered, including preventing certain forms of cancer and preventing "marking". For more information on these benefits you can visit: www.ASPCA.org. Is it really important to have my animals vaccinated? Rabies vaccinations are required by law in Larimer County. Any animal having a spay/neuter surgery at our clinic must receive a rabies vaccination unless a current rabies certificate is provided. Distemper combo vaccinations are important for keeping upper respiratory viruses in check and preventing deadly diseases such as parvo and distemper. Isn't microchipping a luxury? No. The latest statistics from Larimer Humane Society show that only 19% of cats/kittens and 86% of dogs/puppies brought into the shelter are reunited with their owners due to a lack of identification. When an lost animal is brought into a shelter or veterinary clinic, he/she is first scanned for a microchip. For an animal that has been microchipped, a quick phone call to the family will reunite them. An animal who is not microchipped may sit in the shelter for several days before his/her family locates their lost family member. Families may not be able to afford the fees charged by the shelter to reclaim their pet, and therefore in some instances end up having to surrender a beloved pet. Microchipping helps to ensure your family member will be returned home when they become separated from you, especially when emergencies occur.
