This represents one of the most monumental accomplishments in the City’s history, as there will be only one Great Wolf Lodge within the entire Houston Metropolitan Statistical Area—and the City is thrilled that Webster will accommodate the nation’s premier indoor waterpark resort hotel and conference center. Great Wolf Lodge will preside as the tourism anchor for Flyway, the City’s new destination development located south of Academy Sports+Outdoors, Topgolf, and American Furniture Warehouse—amid 120 acres. Flyway will feature top experiential retail, restaurants, entertainment, and sports-focused venues—complete with a boardwalk and outdoor amenities. Great Wolf Lodge Webster will feature over 500 keys, an expansive, state-of-the-art indoor and outdoor waterpark, and a conference center. This major tourist attraction will generate more than 500 jobs for the region. The City is also excited to announce the upcoming arrival of McIntyre’s to Webster at 806 E NASA Parkway. This upscale establishment blends the neighborhood sports bar experience with the laid-back, outdoor-patio vibe that has become a staple in entertainment. The dog-friendly patios and signature swings, alongside multiple seating options, were designed for people that love to relax and enjoy their libations outdoors on a pleasant day. Whether you’re going out to watch a game, meet some friends for happy hour, play some cornhole, or see a friendly face, there’s always a reason to visit McIntyre’s! 2 Webster Way | February
ALL ABOUT ANTON | WEBSTER’S NEW POLICE K9 For the past four years, Officer Javier Mendoza has patrolled the Webster streets, and at the end of 2021, he welcomed a new furry partner to his routine. Anton, an intelligent and strong Dutch shepherd from Poland, now rides with Officer Mendoza during his night shift. In November, the duo completed four weeks of training, focusing on explosive detection. Although he specializes in detecting common compounds found in explosives, the K9 can also track and apprehend suspects, serve in medical events, and aid in other legal aspects. For Javier and Anton, the training never stops. The dynamic duo trains at least once a week with local K9 handlers on various topics, such as explosive detection, patrol work, or even basic obedience. “Sometimes Anton and I will do training during a normal patrol shift,” explained Officer Mendoza. “Just 15-30 minutes here and there, multiple times a week, will create a better and more effective K9.” Although Anton went through rigorous training and continues to sharpen his skills regularly, Officer Mendoza wants the community to remember that Anton gets to go home with him and be a normal dog when the workday is done. “As hard as he trains and works, he definitely gets some doggy relaxation,” he said. Anton was purchased with funds from a grant provided by the Exxon-Mobil Pipeline company earlier this year. Anton will be used as a local and regional asset to enhance In January, Anton was introduced to City Council and Exxon-Mobil leaders. community safety.
