Vacancy - Building Back Better (Communities) Worker, Argyll and Bute
Council
Please share widely in your networks details of a new post within the Community Planning and
Development Team and it builds on the fantastic work of the team, since the start of the pandemic,
to work with community organisations and support them in meeting the needs of communities at
this time.

In direct response to Covid-19 the team has worked in partnership with council colleagues, the TSI
and Public Health team and has met frequently with groups, developed and delivered a Covid-19
micro grant fund, ran training and produced guidance.

As the Building Back Better (Communities) Worker you will research and engage on the impacts of
Covid-19 with community groups, identifying needs and reporting to the Building Back Better
(Communities) working group to shape its focus and actions, assisting others on the group and
wider partners to implement actions. You will act as a single point of contact for community groups
on Covid-19, directing and advising them and producing materials to support their resilience
planning. You will be supported by an experienced team and bring with you skills in engaging and
working collaboratively with communities and partners, alongside experience in running projects
and activities.

This post is for a fixed term of 18months, 17.5 hours per week.

The closing date is 24 January 2022 and applications can be made via:

Whatsapp/Text Message Scam_
Reports received by Argyll & West Dunbartonshire Police Division indicate that a number of local
residents have been getting contacted by scammers via mobile phone text message or WhatsApp
message.

The content of the message is that the caller (a supposed) trusted friend or family member, often
saying they are a son or daughter, has recently changed their phone number and in need of some
money to pay an outstanding bill or for food. On occasion these messages have gone
unchallenged and money has been transferred. This message will come from a mobile number
that you do not recognise.

PC Laura Evans from Argyll and West Dunbartonshire Community Engagement Team said,
“Should you receive a request like this, our advice is to simply phone your friend or family member
on the original number that you will have for them (not the new one provided) to confirm if this is a
genuine request”.

“I would ask that you not only be aware of this scam yourself, but that you pass this message on to
as many people as you can either through a phone call to someone you know, sharing the
message on social media or popping over to your neighbour to make them aware”.

Police Scotland would ask you to make contact with the person who the message is allegedly from
on the number you have stored for them (not the one the message has come from) before you
engage in any text/whatsapp conversation and especially before you transfer any money. Please
also see the Suspicious Text messages flier: here

Coronavirus Caring for People Helpline – Test and Protect

Caring for People is a partnership approach with the Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP),
Third Sector Interface (TSI), the Council and our communities. On Friday 27 March 2020, this
helpline was launched in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. It provides a single point of contact
for concerns about financial, business, education, registration and social and homecare needs
where these have been impacted due to Covid-19. Individuals can also use the helpline to
enquire about volunteering. The helpline number is 01546 605524 and open 9am to 5pm, Mon-Fri.

The current Scottish Government guidance on Covid-19 is such that everyone can, in-keeping with
safety guidelines, access food and other domestic support. The number of requests for support to
the Argyll and Bute Covid-19 Helpline have reduced since March 2020 therefore, our main
response has stepped down and we are on standby if needed for the future. The helpline remains
an accessible number for any person seeking support due to Covid-19 - this includes Test and
Protect and cases requiring self-isolation.

walk-in centres – it’s vitally important we help protect each other, our communities and
businesses. Find out more on our community testing webpage. Covid PCR testing in Argyll and
