To Our Members and Community: MISSION Parks + Recreation has the opportunity to balance outdoor recreation and fitness with indoor programming and wellness FAMILY activities. While we advocate for balance in outdoor and indoor activities, we strive to deliver exceptional park and Community Center amenities. AQUATIC One of the things I’m most excited about is our participation CENTER in the Facility Conservation Improvement Program. This is a state program that assists local governments in implementing energy-saving projects in City-owned facilities. You will notice energy-saving projects continuing through the winter months 2022 MFAC at the PCC as well as the Public Works offices and City Hall. Memberships PCC energy-saving projects upcoming: on Sale Monday, • Building weatherization • Destratification fans December 13th! • LED light conversion • High efficiency boiler and chiller • New air handling system and controls The upgrades will result in a 28% reduction in energy costs with an annual savings for Mission totaling over $132,000; and an environmental benefit of eliminating 988 metric tons of CO2, which is the equivalent to removing 215 cars from the road each year. These projects will require some adjustment to program and space availability through the coming months with an antici- pated closure in Spring 2022. I understand the adverse impacts this has on your plans and schedules, so we will keep you updated on timelines. I’m proud to announce that Mission residents and Powell Community Center (PCC) members answered the call and participated in the “70 Trees for 70th Anniversary” tree planting challenge. This challenged all Mission residents to plant a tree in their yard or donate a tree to a Mission park of choice. You not only reached the goal of planting 70 trees in Mission in 2021, but surpassed it. At last count, 85 trees were planted in 2021. Mission residents are dedicated to a diverse and healthy tree canopy which is why we will continue our 19 year streak of Tree City USA designation. As always, thank you for your continued trust and patronage as a valued member of the Powell Community Center. Moving forward, we’ll continue to strive to meet – and exceed – your expectations of us. We’re continuously evaluating our programs and services to determine how we can better serve you, both in terms of what we offer and in how we simplify registration. Be Well and Take Care, Penn Almoney Director of Mission Parks + Recreation
