General Information Hamilton County Junior Livestock show (HCJLA) is a 50C3 non-profit organization that is run by volunteers. Please help us by doing your part at the show by picking up trash, dumping trash cans into dumpster if it is full and helping wherever needed. If you are currently not a member, we welcome your participation at any meeting. Board members are elected once a year to represent each community in Hamilton County. If interested in serving please let any of the advisors know you would like to get involved on the board or as a superintendent. If you or your student make the sale. They must turn in sale card to the show staff, usually located on stage. This must be completed by the posted deadline. When entering all checks should be made out to HCJLA or to the organization you will be entered under (4-H, FFA, FCCLA). All fees should be paid no later than December 1, 2018 when entries are submitted. If you or your student make the sale be aware that they will need to attend the premium sale. A complete buyers list will be provided to advisors, they will provide list for you to write your thank you notes. Please complete these in a timely manner and highly recommend a small gift like cookies, cake etc. might be appropriate. Add-on’s: no minimum for them but a minimum amount of $50 per exhibitor to have contributor’s name announced during sale. All add-on’s must be paid in full and prior to the beginning of the sale. Special Awards – Herdsman – This award is presented to a Senior and a Junior exhibitor in the Show for overall outstanding characteristics that make this individual unique and leaves a lasting impact on all participants. The recipients are chosen by the 4-H agents and FFA advisors at the discretion. Awards will be given to the exhibitor best representing each of the following: Evant FFA (1), Hamilton FFA (2 – JR/SR), Hamilton County 4-H (1), and Hico FFA (2 – JR/SR). Jeff Fox Memorial Award – Market steer exhibitor selected on best overall job of showmanship and presentation of the steer. Jayson Harris Memorial Award – Beef heifer exhibitors only selected on overall presentation of the animal and knowledge of the beef heifer project. Cattleman’s Award in Honor of Gayland Stephens – The recipient of this award must exhibit the finest overall qualities including Outstanding in his/her fitting, herdsmanship, showmanship, sportsmanship, knowledge of the animal and knowledge of their division. Very well-mannered in interactions with the judge(s) and show personnel, and someone with high standards at all times. Exemplify qualities of a good cattleman through great care for their animal, personally grooming and caring for the animal, and in depth knowledge of the breed and its uses. Perform at an outstanding level in all areas and demonstrate a good spirit with all others. The recipient will be chosen by the judge with input from the show superintendents and the Stephens’ family members (when available). 5 ~ Hamilton County Youth Fair
Melissa Green Memorial Award – This award is to an exhibitor demonstrating hard work and effort without regard to the placing of the animals. The FFA advisors, 4-H leaders and County Agents may nominate exhibitors of market lambs for this award based on their efforts, knowledge of their lamb, and personal involvement in its care. The award is presented by Sue Green. Jennifer Hall Memorial Award – In honor of Jennifer’s love for the Show and the fitting and showing of her lambs, Sandy and Roseanne Hall present this award to the exhibitor with the best fitted lamb in the market show. Don Plagens Memorial Award- In honor of Don’s love for showing swine. Selected for overall presentation and knowledge of their swine project. Overall General Rules 1. Eligibility – All participants must be a member of a Hamilton County 4-H Club or the Hamilton, Hico or Evant FFA, JR FFA, FCCLA Chapters. Members must be in the 3rd grade to the 12th grade. A student that is considered academically ineligible by their school district at show time SHALL NOT SHOW, NOR SHALL HIS/HER ENTRY BE SHOWN. Home schooled youth must show proof at show date of passing grades. Proof of compliance with this requirement may be required. 2. Residency - Participants must attend public or private school in Hamilton County or live in a Hamilton, Hico or Evant ISD. (A child’s residence of divorced parents is determined by the county of residence of the custodial parent.) Home schooled participants will be counted as part of the district in which they reside; however, if the last public school in which a member of the family was enrolled was Hamilton, Hico, or Evant ISD and they are members of Hamilton County 4-H Club, then they shall meet the residency requirement. Participants transferring into a qualifying district after validation or entry deadline dates but before show must be in good standing with their former club or chapter and meet all other requirements of this show. Proof of compliance with the residency requirement may be required. 3. Age Groups - Age groups are as follows: Pee Wee / Clover Kids: 4 years old – 2nd grade Junior Division: 3rd grade – 8th grade Senior Division: 9th -12th grade 4. Exhibitor Responsibility - All exhibited animals must be under the care of the exhibitor. All items in the home economics area, MUST HAVE BEEN COMPLETED BY EXHIBITOR. Any entry found to be in violation of this rule will be disqualified at the sole discretion of the judges. 5. Entry Deadline – December 3, 2018, at 5:00 p.m. to FCCLA or FFA Advisor or the Hamilton County Extension Office. All participants must complete (include required information) and turn in the entry forms attached on or before the deadline. If incomplete it will not be a valid entry. All entry fees due to advisor or HCJLA at deadline. Entry form is now on two forms. Please read statement and must be signed by the Exhibitor and Parent/Guardian. 6. Liability – Association, its member and volunteers will not be responsible for any loss or damage that may occur, and each exhibitor will be solely responsible for any damage or loss suffered by 6 ~ Hamilton County Youth Fair
him/her or anyone else as a result of his/her actions. All exhibitors will be under the control and direction of the Hamilton County Jr. Livestock Association and their Advisor(s). 7. Dress Code- All exhibitors will be required to follow this dress code when entering the show ring and premium sale ring. Exhibitors are encouraged to dress appropriately at all times. Each superintendent will be responsible for enforcing the code. The dress code includes: A. Shirts will have sleeves and collars and be tucked in-no midriff shirts. B. Spaghetti straps are not allowed unless another shirt is worn underneath or over. C. Extreme holes or slashes in jeans/pants are not allowed. D. Baggy jeans/pants are not allowed. E. Jeans/pants worn above the hip bone. F. Jeans/pants will be hemmed at the bottom. G. No caps. Cowboy hats are allowed. H. Open-toe shoes are not allowed. I. Visible tattoos are not allowed. J. Male exhibitors must be clean shaven. K. Males may not wear any ornamental jewelry on their ears. By the same token, both genders are not allowed to wear any visible piercing ornaments on the nose, eyebrow, or tongue. L. Hair must meet school dress code. 8. Conduct- Any exhibitor, parent, or other individual who shows disrespect or interferes with any show official or judge will be: A. Person(s) will be asked to leave fairgrounds by the show superintendent or their advisor. B. Should the person(s) refuse to leave, law enforcement will be called and they will escort the person(s) from the grounds. C. Person(s) will not be allowed to return to the grounds until a formal, written apology is made by the person(s) to the show official or judge that the incident was directed against. D. Should the person be an exhibitor, any judging classes that are missed as a result of their removal from the grounds will be forfeited by the exhibitor. E. Should the person be an exhibitor, any prizes or monies won will be forfeited should they refuse to make apology. F. Should a second incident from the person(s) occur at any point in time following the first incident, they will be barred from current show and the show in the next year. G. Should a third incident occur from the person(s) occur at any point in time following the second incident, person(s) will be permanently barred from the show. H. Person(s) who have been removed from the show because of an incident may appeal to the board of directors at the first Hamilton County Jr. Livestock Association meeting following the show where the incident occurred. The board will hear the side of the show superintendent and the complainant and rule on the incident. Board ruling will be final with no further appeal. I. Should the board rule in favor of the complainant, any suspensions from the show will be revoked. 7 ~ Hamilton County Youth Fair
J. Should the person(s) involved in the incident be an exhibitor and their appeal is upheld by the board, all prizes and monies that were earned will be restored if possible. 9. Contact Judge- Exhibitors, parents, or their agents are strictly prohibited to make improper contact with any judge for the Hamilton County Youth Fair until the judging of their entries is completed. Should any exhibitor, parent, or their agent make improper contact with the judge before they have completed judging, their entries will be immediately disqualified. Should a second incident of improper contact with a judge ever occur again at any point in time by the exhibitor or by anyone acting on their behalf, exhibitor will be permanently barred from the show. Exhibitors, parents, or their agents may appeal to the Hamilton County Youth Fair any suspensions as a result of improper contact with judges. The board’s ruling will be final with no further appeals. 10. Any exhibitor, parent, or their agent who engages in “bullying” another exhibitor either written, verbally, or with the use of body language will be subject to the same penalties as outlined in rule 8. 11. Premium Sale – Eligible Sale Entries: The following entries are eligible for the premium sale: Minimum of 3 head per division for the entries to be eligible for premium sale. Top 75% of each class of market lambs, market goats, market hogs, and all breeding classes. Top 75% of each class of poultry and rabbits. Grand and Reserve Champions in the Home Economics Division. Qualifying sale order steers – After judging of classes, steer exhibitors must bring back one steer per exhibitor for placement in the sale order. No more than 75% of the total number of steers in the Show will be in the premium sale. There will be no bumping. Please see attached form for auction breakdown. (For these purposes, numbers will be rounded up to the next whole number when the decimal is 50% or better.) Each exhibitor may sell only one entry in the premium sale. Exhibitors wishing to sell an entry in the premium sale or to sell an animal on the floor price must let the Show Secretary know at the close of their species show or division show. Cattle no later than 30 minutes after the steer sale order is determined. If judging is not completed at this time, the Show Superintendent may extend the time. Late premium sale entries will be charged a late fee of $50.00. Exhibitors must appear in the sale ring at their scheduled time on sale day unless an approved excuse is provided. All Premium Sale exhibitors must report to the show grounds for set up before the show or clean up on Sunday after the show. Failure to do so will result in a fine of $100.00 being deducted from their premium check. Commission – A 7% commission fee will be automatically charged on all items sold through the Premium Sale and the floor bid process. This commission is the responsibility of the exhibitor. It will be deducted from the check before it is issued. Thank You – All premium sale exhibitors must send approved thank you cards to all buyers of their entries and award sponsors. The Thank You cards must be turned in to the exhibitor’s supervising agent /teacher with proper postage and address. Supervisors will mail all thank you cards. Award and sale proceeds will be distributed to the supervisors or teachers. IF THE THANK YOU CARD IS NOT TURNED INTO THE APPROPRIATE PERSON WITHIN 60 DAYS OF THE PREMIUM SALE, THE FUNDS WILL BE FORFEITED AND DEPOSITED INTO THE SCHOLARSHIP FUND. Home Economic Sales – Exhibitors selling a food item must furnish a freshly made item for the sale for delivery to the buyers. Non-food items should be cleaned and presented in an attractive manner. 8 ~ Hamilton County Youth Fair
12. PROTESTS. The judge’s and superintendent’s decisions are final. Any formal protest must be made in writing. The written protest must cite the rule in question. The protest must be accompanied by a deposit of $150 cash, which will be refunded only if the protest is upheld. Protests must be made within 30 minutes following that species Champion selection.” Judging will not be interrupted for protest investigation. All protests must be tendered to the Show Superintendent. Any protest must include a written explanation of all efforts to resolve the protest with the division superintendent. The Show Superintendent, with the assistance of the division superintendents, will determine all protests. The Show Superintendent’s decisions will be final. 13. Alcohol Ban – No alcohol shall be consumed at the show site during the show. At the discretion of the Show Superintendent, any person present that appears to be intoxicated will be asked to leave the premises. 14. Selection Process for Superintendents: a. A nomination committee composed of 4-H and FFA advisors will meet to nominate and rank up to 5 individuals for each superintendent role, including the overall superintendent. (Nomination meeting will be open to public, but only advisors can vote.) b. Nominees delivered to Overall Superintendent to contact in the ranked order until one of the nominees agrees to serve. c. A list of confirmed superintendents will then be submitted for the board’s vote of approval. d. In the event a superintendent steps down, resigns, or no one on the list agree to serve, the nomination process will be repeated. 15. Selection Process for Judges: a. A nomination committee composed of 4-H and FFA advisors will meet to nominate and rank up to 5 individuals for each division judge. (Nomination meeting will be open to public, but only advisors can vote.) b. Nominees delivered to each respective superintendent to contact in the ranked order until one of the nominees agrees to serve. 1. A list of confirmed judges will then be submitted for the board’s vote of approval. 2. In the event a judge cannot fulfill commitment, or no one on the list agree to serve, the nomination process will be repeated. 3. Superintendents and Judges will agree to serve for a term two years, but not limited to two years. 16. Superintendents’ Authority – All exhibits, projects and animals will be under the control and guidance of the respective superintendents who have the right to reclassify any entry if they feel it is in the best interest of the entry. It is the superintendents’ decision to excuse any animal from the ring for an unruly animal and to enforce the dress code. It is the superintendents’ decision to reject any home economics entry that does not qualify for the show. Superintendents for each show will be elected at the April meeting preceding the show. All superintendents must be in good standing with the Association by last fall meeting of the current year (2018). They will not be in good standing if they owe any money to the Association or the Show or any buyer pools. If they are not in good standing, they can and will be replaced at the next meeting. 9 ~ Hamilton County Youth Fair
Livestock Division ~ Rules & Classes 17. County Validation. All market animals, including market steers, market swine, market sheep and market goats, must be brought in to the location selected by the Superintendents and properly validated on the validation schedule for the species as follows: Bring registration papers with you to validation. October 31 Sheep/Goat Oct. 26 November 30 Swine Nov.23 December 1 Poultry Broilers and turkeys December 15 Rabbit Breeding and meat pens Dec. 13 All entries must be owned, on feed, in the possession of, and in the care of the exhibitor by these dates. Animals may be validated in family names rather than individual exhibitor names on validation day. Final interpretation and decision will be at the Show Superintendent’s discretion. All broilers and turkeys will be ordered from the same source at the same time through the vocational teachers or County Extension Agent. Any swine barrows that might want to participate in the prospect show must be validated and have a state validation tag. 18. Entry Fees - All entry fees will be $20.00 Livestock & Ag Mech. Home Economics entry fee is $5.00. No entry fee will be refunded. 19. Entry Forms – All exhibitors will complete the entry form attached and advisors will enter data online. Forms due December 3, 2018. Market animals will be classified at weigh in. 20. Late Fees - Late entries will be accepted until animal weigh-in and classification at the show. An additional $50.00 late fee will be assessed for each entry tendered after the December 3, 2018, deadline. If animals are reclassified or substituted within a family pursuant to these rules, corrections will be made at weigh-in. 21. Pen assignments and tie outs will be set and assigned by the number of entries per school or 4-H chapter. Pre-penning may be allowed by Advisors for the allotted number of pens. 10 ~ Hamilton County Youth Fair
22. Class breakdown- In all market departments, exhibitors may enter a maximum of four animals in each department with no more than two animals in any one class. There will be no limit on breeding classes, except no more than two entries per person per class. All entries in the breeding Sheep, Goat, Swine, Cattle show must be female. Exhibitors with more than one entry in a class must have the other entry shown by another eligible exhibitor. Exhibitors with only one entry in a class must show that entry themselves unless they are ill and cannot be present to show. In classes where there is no competition for champion, the banner may be awarded if the animal is worthy in the sole discretion of the judge. All judge’s decisions are final. 23. Check In- Entries must arrive and be in place by designated time on show schedule. Animals will be weighed in at the direction of the Show Superintendent. See schedule for times and day for check in. Substitutions may be made within the family at weigh in, but no child will be allowed to show more animals than he or she entered. Ownership must be designated before the animal leaves the scales, after which, no changes may be made. Exhibitors or a representative of the family will be present at weigh in to designate ownership, and verify association membership i.e. FFA, 4-H. Weigh in cards will be held and filled in by the appropriate department superintendent or designee. All animals found to be sick, diseased, or below show quality may be removed from the show grounds at the direction of the sifting committee. All livestock superintendents will serve as the sifting committee. The committee will have the discretion to remove any objectionable exhibit. 24. Release- Animals will not be released from the show grounds until the show is over by species or designated time / day on schedule. Or at the direction of the General Superintendent. (Exception: lactating dairy cows and lactating dairy goats only may arrive before show time on Thursday). Rabbits and poultry will be released at the direction of the Rabbit and Poultry Superintendent. Due to limited pen space, breeding goats and breeding sheep must arrive on Thursday morning by 9:00 am and must go home after the show Wednesday night. The Overall Grand Champion Market Animal and Reserve Grand Champion Market animal of each species will be asked to remain and be present, along with their exhibitor, for the premium sale Saturday afternoon. 25. Substitutions – The participant who claimed ownership of the animal at weigh in/classification/check in must show the animal in the ring and be present for the premium sale unless: *The participant has two animals in the same class. Another exhibitor can show the second animals. The owner will show one of the animals and must try to enter the show ring before his/her substitute. Another UIL school sponsored event is taking place at the same time and the exhibitor must be present. Another exhibitor can show the animals. The exhibitor is sick. Another exhibitor can show the animals. There is a close death/major illness in the family. 11 ~ Hamilton County Youth Fair
At least 10 days in advance of the show, participant has received the Show Superintendent’s permission for another exhibitor to show the animal. This decision is at the Show Superintendent’s discretion and will not generally be granted. Substitution will not be allowed because the animal is unruly or the exhibitor is scared. This is no excuse. 26. Showmanship-A showmanship award will be presented to the Junior and Senior Exhibitor chosen as demonstrating the best showmanship in each division. Divisions include sheep, goat, swine, steer, heifer, rabbit, and poultry. Showmanship will be a separate class for each species. 27. Pee/ Wee Clover Kid Show- A Pee Wee Showmanship division will be conducted in the sheep and swine divisions. Awards will be given to winners in this division. Exhibitors can only show in one category. All exhibitors’ parents must sign a release of liability. If an exhibitor is younger than 5 years of age, a parent or guardian over the age of 18 must accompany them in the ring during the show. 28. Bedding – All exhibitors must provide their own bedding. It is the exhibitor’s responsibility to clean out the pen after the animal has left the show. The Exhibitor is required to take the used materials to the designated area. A penalty will be assessed if the pen is not cleaned. The Show Superintendent has the authority to deduct the penalty which cannot exceed $100 from any award or premium sale check. 29. Award – At least 10 pens or exhibits must be entered in a market class before a buckle will be awarded. (Previous years’ entries will determine if a buckle is ordered.) 30. Unethically Fitted Livestock. The showing of unethically fitted livestock is prohibited. Unethical fitting shall be deemed to consist of any method altering the natural confirmation of any part of the animal. 12 ~ Hamilton County Youth Fair
Cattle Department-100 Cattle Superintendent: Cindy Rogers Class 01 Steers All market steers will be classified into 3 divisions/breeds, shown by weight with as equal classes as possible. a American b British c Exotic Steers must weigh a minimum of 900 lbs. to be eligible for the show. The heifer and steer show would be considered “Blow & Go”, meaning no glues, adhesives or paint allowed in fitting the animals. No fitting! Class 02 Heifers Heifers must be registered with a registration certificate issued by the breed association OR have a breeder affidavit signed for the date of birth and be tagged at validation on or before October 31st prior to the show and not more than three years old as of September 1st prior to the show; will be able to show with or without calf at side. Heifers will be shown by breed groups. A champion and reserve heifer in each breed with an overall champion and overall reserve champion. a) American b) British c) Exotic If numbers warrant, they will be broken into classes by date of birth. Class 03 Longhorn Heifers Heifers must be registered with a registration certificate issued by the breed association OR have a breeder affidavit signed for the date of birth and be tagged at validation on or before October 31st prior to the show and not more than three years old as of September 1st prior to the show; will be able to show with or without calf at side. Class 04 Commercial Steers 1. Objective – To highlight the commercial cattle industry and provide 4-H and FFA members a learning experience emphasizing selection, record keeping, feeding, animal health, industry standards, public speaking and technical knowledge. 2. Entry – each junior exhibitor may enter one pen of two (2) steers. One steer may constitute a pen; however, it will result in an immediate deduction of 20 points. 3. Ownership – Steers of any beef breed are eligible to be entered in this show. Exhibitors in this division must have owned their steers on or before September 15, the year preceding the show. And the steers must have been fed and cared for by the exhibitor from the date of acquisition throughout the Commercial Steer Show. 4. Weighing – Weights will be calculated as follows Initial Weight – Steers must be individually weighed between September 6- 15, 2018 on a certified livestock scale by a certified weigh master. This weight will be the “initial weight for the feeding record. The official scale ticket should include: weight date, individual animal weight, animal identification (i.e. ear tag, brand), breeder of the animal, buyer of the animal, signature of the certified weigh master. The official scale ticket should be retained and submitted with the record book upon arrival of the Hamilton County Youth Fair. Record Weight – Steers must be officially weighed, individually, on a certified livestock scale by a certified weigh master, December 26, 2017 – January 2, 2018 (between these dates). This weight will be the “record weight” for the feeding records. Check In / Sale Weight – Each steer must weigh-in between 1,000 and 1,350 lbs. Failure to comply will result in point deductions (see point breakdown). There will be NO reweighs. Record Books – Exhibitors must maintain an official San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo Commercial Steer Record Book including feeding, animal health, and income and expense record regarding their commercial Steer project. An Official Commercial Steer Record Book may be obtained at www.sarodeo.com. The Official S.A.L.E. Commercial Steer Record Book must be completed and submitted upon arrival at the show. All receipts and related records must be attached. Record books must be complete, neat and accurate. Exhibitors must submit their Record Book for judging in person. All calculations are to be rounded to the hundredth decimal from the beginning of the project. 6. Live Visual Evaluation – Junior Commercial Steers visually evaluated based on the USDA quality and yield grades for slaughter steers. Steers must be presented for live visual evaluation. 7. Individual projects should be solely owned and all major construction steps completed by the individual. This does not prohibit assistance in holding for nailing or other minor help. Home Economics Division ~ Rules & Classes Home Economics entries will follow the general rules of the show as well as these additional specific rules for each department. Entry Fees should be made out to your club or organization. All Home Economics entries from every club/organization must be turned in to the Extension Office by December 3, 2018 with advisor’s signature. It is the participant’s responsibility to read the rules and follow their specifications. Exclude names, initials and so forth as much as possible on items. Any signatures, initials etc. must be covered prior to entry with exception of scrapping. All identifying marks that are not the actual project (example: name on belt) should be covered. The superintendents reserve the right to accept or reject an entry due to violation of the rules and regulations. Superintendents reserve the right to change a class or category where deemed appropriate. Items are subject to disqualification or reclassification at the discretion of advisors and overall superintendent if it is in an inappropriate class at time of entry. All Home Economics entries need to be made From January 1, 2018 until the Hamilton County Youth Fair 2019. Entry Rules Home Economics exhibitors may enter one entry per class in each category. Category and Class Alpha Numeric information must be on the entry form. Any missing mandatory information on an entry will result in the item not being placed. Please include the item description if possible. Entry form provided in the rule book MUST be used. No other forms will be accepted. Any item that is offensive, vulgar, or inappropriate will be disqualified and not put on exhibit. No refund will be given. NO items displaying alcohol or inappropriate language will be allowed to enter. Items receiving Grand or Reserve on a Food entry, will need to prepare a freshly baked item to present to the buyer at the premium sale. Foods Department-exhibitors are limited to no more than 15 entries total. All entries made from scratch except for the mix plus class. Recipes will be due at check in. Attach recipe on top of the item. DO NOT include your name on the recipe card. Recipes may be typed or hand written. Recipes must contain ingredients, measurements and directions. All food items will be tasted. 12 cookies, muffins, candy, etc.or one recipe constitute an entry. Display space is limited. Please keep to a minimal/appropriate size. Non-edible decorations are discouraged, except in the decorated cake No container will be returned. We encourage all containers to not be breakable, except in the canned classes on preservation. Acceptable Containers: Plastic domes, Ziploc bags, oven roaster bags, foil covered cardboard, glad disposable containers and Saran Wrap. Non-Acceptable Containers: Non see-through containers, glass (except for preservation) and breakables. Creativity on decorations and making foods look attractive is encouraged. Lids must have an airtight seal with the ring intact, smooth, unbent and free of rust or corrosion. All entries must be made by the exhibitor. No purchased product may be repackaged for entry. Canned Categories must BRING TWO of each item. Fresh uncooked fruit/vegetables (even for garnishing) All preservation entries must be hot water bathed or pressure canned with the exception of jerky, granola or non-perishables. Craft Department Craft entries must have a card attached with a brief description of how it was made or it will not be awarded placement. EXAMPLE: Bought a wooden mailbox, attached dry flowers and ribbons. Original drawn stenciled bird design. Horticulture Department Flowers and or plants must have been grown, arranged, and in the exhibitors possession for at least two months. Arrangements are not “cut flowers arranged.” Art Department Entries may be any size, but consider that space is limited. Entries may be framed, but NO glass (exception: stained glass) All entries must have a stable surface (example: canvas or matted) All entries must be original work. Sewing Department Sewing, textiles, and quilts must have a card with a brief description of how it’s made, how long it took to make, and difficulty level or it will not be placed. (example: kit or pattern, 4 hours to make, difficult or easy, etc..) Please cover entries with dry cleaning bags or protective plastic. No Saran Wrap. Photography Department All photography may be any size up to 8x10. Entries may be matted, mounted, on canvas, or any other method of mounting such as cube. Should be suitable for hanging. Scholarship The Hamilton County Livestock Association in effort to encourage higher education of our youth will present scholarships to graduating exhibitors each year. The dollar amount, as well as number given will be determined by the scholarship committee. Applicants must have participated in at least three county shows during their high school years including their senior year. Graduating senior must attend a state accredited institution of higher learning. Each applicant must demonstrate: leadership, community involvement, scholarship and need. Please relate specific values you have received from show experience and discuss the varied ways the project experience may have benefited others through your essay. Recommend listing all school/ community activities. A committee made up of at least (3) three people approved by the HCJLA Board will be appointed. Applicants must complete and submit a scholarship application by December 3, 2018. Application should be turned into the Hamilton County Extension Office, located in the Courthouse Annex 1st floor by 5:00 p.m. December 3rd, 2018. Please submit application in a sealed envelope. Scholarships will be given at the 2019 County Show Premium Sale. Please include the following items in your scholarship application: 1. Cover page to include: Name, address, high school, phone number & parent/guardian name. Recent photo of yourself. At bottom please sign and date your application. 2. Typed resume including: a. HCYF participation (Include years) b. School and Community Involvement c. Leadership 3. Essay “My Show Experience” (Include values learned or gained through project experiences at HCJLA and ways project has benefitted others. What the project has meant to you and your family over the years.) 4. Need (Essay or letter to express why you need scholarship) 5. College or University where you have been accepted should be included. 6. Grades (transcript) 7. 2-3 letters of recommendation from person other than relatives.
