Kids Yoga Instructor: Carolyn Miller, M.Ed, RYT-200 Yoga for school age children provides a fun and engaging way for children to practice mindfulness, body awareness, balance, strength and flexibility in a non-competitive and compassionate environment. Traditional yoga poses will be explored using child friendly language, games and traditional yoga sequencing. YOUTH: PROGRESS WITH CHESS PROGRESS WITH CHESS Progress with Chess is pleased to offer three different groups specially designed to instruct and challenge players of every skill level and experience. Students may be graduated to the next level for their scheduled weeks upon the recommendation of the instructor with no additional fee. YOUTH: PROGRESS WITH CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP CHALLENGE Grades: K- 12 Designed for students that have tournament experience or have received prior chess instruction and are eager to enter competition. Sessions will include one hour of interactive lessons and one tournament game. Explore advanced tactics, strategies, checkmate patterns, endgames and openings in a supportive small group setting. Participants will learn from analyzing their games and those of famous masters. Two four-game tournaments. Free entry included with registration. Grades: 1 - 5 Beachwood Recreation Department and Progress with Chess are pleased to invite Bryden and Hilltop students in grades 1-5 to engage in the exciting opportunity to learn and play chess safely online! No previous experience necessary – students start at their own level. Instruction will be provided by Progress with Chess, a local nonprofit organization that has provided chess instruction and tournaments for Beachwood youth for many years. Chess improves higher level thinking skills such as memory, concentration and pattern recognition, and provides many opportunities for positive social interaction. YOUTH: PROGRESS WITH CHESS GRANDMASTER GAMBIT Grades: K- 12 Grandmaster Gambit is open to players with USCF Online or Regular Rating over 1200. Sessions will include a lesson from a Grandmaster! and two USCF Online Regular Rated tournament games with analysis. Staff include a Grandmaster every week, assisted by Experts and Masters. The strong win, the weak lose and those left standing are the Knights of the Royal Guard. Chess is an exciting battle of wits and we invite young chess enthusiasts to join the Beachwood Recreation Chess Team. Our chess team will compete individually and as a community in the inaugural Knights of the Square Table Virtual Chess Tournament. Children from various communities will compete by playing 5-12 chess games online in an arena format for 90 minutes. At the end of the tournament, scores will be totaled and standings will be announced and prizes awarded. T-Birds T-Ball SUMMER 2021 Boys & Girls Ages 3 - 4 A fun and highly instructional introduction to baseball for 3 - 4 year old boys and girls. Players learn the basics of throwing, catching, fielding, batting and base running and apply what they have learned in fun, non-competitive games. teen camps ENTERING GRADES 6 - 8 CHEF’S CAMP Chef’s Camp is offered in conjunction with Young Chefs Academy. Each day campers will focus on a different menu. Some of the fun recipes are Cinnamon Sugar Pretzel Bites, Muffin Cup Pizza Rolls, Bacon Egg and Cheese Donuts, Fresh Pasta, Cake Decorating and so much more. Attendees will come home with their finished products and the recipes for future fun. LIMITED AVAILABILITY! In this CSI Camp campers get hands-on experience with a variety of different techniques. Led by Beachwood Police Office Jamey Appell campers will learn about fingerprints, how to investigate a crime scene, look for, collect and package evidence, search a crime scene and more. Officer Appell serves as Beachwood’s Community Engagement Officer, Master Criminal Investigator, Master Evidence Technician and teaches at the Cleveland Heights Police Academy. SPECIALITY CAMPS: CHALLENGER CAMPS CHALLENGER SPORTS BRITISH SOCCER CAMPS Your child deserves the most popular soccer camp in the country. The first session of each day will place emphasis on skill development and mastery of core techniques through individual, small group practices and coached games. SPECIALITY CAMPS: CHALLENGER/WEYN CHALLENGER SOCCER TINY TYKES SOCCER CAMP Ages: 3 - 5 years This innovative program, created by childcare specialists, introduces children to the very basic skills of soccer in a fun, progressive and caring manner. Tiny Tykes activities will include running, turning, stopping, jumping, kicking, throwing and catching. Each day we will aim to help improve balance, agility, coordination, social skills and cognitive ability. Your child’s confidence and enthusiasm for the game will grow during our fun soccer challenges! Parent involvement is always welcomed!
