Message from the WAB President We are all incredibly busy at work with lots of meetings and conferences to choose from, so why WAB? As President of the WAB, I have seen the board work this year to put together a conference line up where you will walk away feeling like the time out of the office was well spent. Our theme is Staying Ahead of the Curve and you will hear from top notch speakers about how to do just that! Michael “Pinball” Clemons will revitalize and reenergize you with his impassioned keynote address – his Program impact will be unquestionable! And Dr. Brian Little – expert on human personality and wellbeing — will Wednesday, June 5, 2013 provide deeper insight into your workforce. Wednesday June 5, 2013 WAB Golf Classic – Fairmont Banff Springs Golf Course Set in the heart of Canada's Rocky Mountains and renowned for its panoramic beauty, The Fairmont Banff Springs Golf Resort is a captivating and challenging golf course. Amateurs and professionals alike are constantly amazed by the golf course’s panoramic challenge. From the actual golf hole design to the optical illusions created by the surrounding mountains, this golf course will delight and tempt you. Originally designed in 1928 by Canada's master golf course architect, Stanley Thompson, the course winds along the Bow River and under the snow-capped peaks of Sulphur Mountain and Mount Rundle. In 1989, 9 holes were added to the original 18 holes, resulting in 27 holes of championship layout. We have a shotgun start at 2 PM in the afternoon – so please turn up at the course one half hour before to check in and use the driving range and practice facility prior to your round. Our Welcome Reception and dinner at the Fairmont Banff Springs Golf Course Club House will start a little after 7:00 PM, with the prize presentation to follow. All fully registered delegates and companions are welcome to play — this is a Texas Scramble Tournament so all levels of golfers are invited to join in the fun! This is a great opportunity to create and renew new business relationships over an amazing day of golf and outstanding scenery. Our golf tournament fills up quickly — please remember to book early! If you are not interested in golfing, you won’t want to miss the follow up Reception and Dinner at the Fairmont Banff Springs Golf Course Clubhouse. There will be a complimentary shuttle from the Hotel to the Club House for the dinner. Dr. Brian Little is an internationally acclaimed scholar and speaker in the field of personality and motivational psychology. His pioneering research on how everyday personal projects and ‘free traits’ influence the course of our lives has become an important way of explaining and enhancing human flourishing. Dividing his time between Canada and the UK, Brian is also a Distinguished Research Professor Emeritus at Carleton University in Ottawa and he lectures world-wide on personality, motivation and well-being. Highly successful corporations and professionals understand the profound effect that personality has on performance, and they use this knowledge to their advantage. The student of 2013! • 11:45 am – 12:15 pm Dr. Steve Olson, Academic Chair, Film & Video Production, Radio, Television, and Broadcast News, SAIT Dr. Steve Olson is a fixture in Albertan broadcasting shepherding thousands of radio and television students through SAIT and he will bring his years of experience, expertise and personal insight to tell you what the broadcast graduate of today is thinking. Staying Ahead of the Curve means getting a handle on what your new employee expects and needs to flourish in their new job on your team. Dr. Olson has made a life study of the broadcast students of today and you won’t want to miss his considerable acumen on the subject brought to you in an easy to understand format with insights you can employ on the ground. Passion – Energy – Teamwork • 1:15 – 2:30 pm Michael “Pinball” Clemons Renowned as one of pro football's most electrifying players, Clemons compiled a brilliant career, including a pro-football record for most career combined yards with 25,438. He retired with 12 all time team records to his credit and became Head Coach for the Toronto Argonauts. In this capacity he became the 1st and only black Head Coach to win the Grey Cup (Canada's Super Bowl) in 96 years. In 2008 he was inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame with his friend and former teammate Doug Flutie. Michael “Pinball” Clemons is an icon of sporting excellence, community leadership, personal character and integrity. He's an author, philanthropist, entrepreneur and currently the vice-chair of the Toronto Argonauts. A dynamic on-stage personality with quiet dignity, but also boundless energy, he engages audience members and delivers an unforgettable, often emotional speech that touches on the potential in all of us to achieve anything to which we set our minds.
