FALL 2020 A Guide for Fairmont Families - Release 2, July 2020 - Fairmont Private Schools
OVERVIEW
At Fairmont Schools, we believe in the social/emotional, educational, and physical support of our
students. In order to resume educating our students in person, we are implementing processes and
procedures to ensure that compassion, human connection and safety are at the forefront of our plans.

We will continue to maintain the academic rigor and close-knit
community that has been synonymous with Fairmont and will
reopen our campuses this fall guided by the following principles:

                                           To take into

This document outlines Fairmont Schools’ plan for safely reopening our five (5) campuses
this fall in addition to providing a remote learning platform for those families who elect that
option or if we are required to remain closed. Our plans are the result of months of extensive
research and strategic conversations among the school’s campus leadership, faculty, staff,
parents, ReOpening Task Force, and medical experts. We also continue to investigate the most
recent local, state, and federal guidelines to ensure we are in compliance.

The conversations surrounding these decisions continue to be rooted in what we know is best
for our students coupled with our changing environment.

                                                                                                       3

PHASED PLANNING
Fairmont Schools ReOpening Task Force, under the advice
of Fairmont’s Executive Leadership, continues to work
to create a reopening strategy that allows for flexibility,
transparency, and prioritizes the health and safety of our
    students, faculty and staff.

We are preparing our physical campuses to welcome students in the fall of 2020 (our
Scenario 2), however, we recognize that external events, conditions or mandates may
dictate that we be flexible and ready to pivot once again to a temporary remote learning
    model (Scenario 3), if needed.

FALL 2020 A Guide for Fairmont Families - Release 2, July 2020 - Fairmont Private Schools
Scenario 3: Fully Remote Learning
In this phase, all learning will be presented virtually. Growing from
our experiences this spring, considerable time and effort have
gone into planning for a remote learning program that mimics
more closely the experience Fairmont students are accustomed to,
incorporating synchronous and asynchronous lessons.

Scenario 2: Modified On-Campus Learning*
Scenario 2 is an in-person learning environment, with modifications
to on-campus routines and activities including small consistent
groups, physical distancing, as well as digital learning components.

Scenario 1: Full Return to Campus
This final phase is when we have a full return to campus and
activities with continued increased sanitation and health and safety
measures in place.

*Fully Remote learning option will also be available for those families
who require such. Remote enrollment contracts will be available soon.
                                                                          5

process. As part of our transition process to re-
open the campuses, Fairmont will implement
SEL systematically by building on our existing
strengths to support students and adults.

Our action plan includes these steps:

     1. Strengthening our partnerships and
          communicating throughout the school
          community that social emotional learning
is fundamental to the holistic success of
          Fairmont students.
     2. Connecting, healing, and cultivating adult
          SEL competencies.
     3. Continuing to create a learning
          environment that is physically and
          emotionally safe.
     4. Collecting and reflecting on data that
          evaluates student and family perspectives
regarding school climate and culture in
order to identify current strengths and
continuously work to improve support for
          all Fairmont stakeholders.

                                                                                                  13

FAQs
HOW DOES FAIRMONT ENSURE THE CAMPUS IS PROPERLY CLEANED
AND SANITIZED?

Fairmont ensures our custodial crew are trained in the most up-to-date protocols and
procedures, and with the most effective and safest products available. CDC guidelines are
followed and exceeded on how to prevent, mitigate, and eliminate viruses and bacteria. FDA
guidelines are followed regarding the best and safest products to use in a school with young
children. Local health agencies have also advised how to best sanitize our campuses.

WHAT IS THE PROCESS FOR, AND HOW OFTEN WILL, CLASSROOMS,
BATHROOMS, AND MATERIALS BE CLEANED?

Classrooms and teaching materials will be cleaned and sanitized throughout the day by
teachers and the custodial crew. High-touch areas in all buildings, classrooms, and outside
areas will be cleaned and sanitized continually throughout the day.

WHAT PHYSICAL DISTANCING AND SANITIZING REQUIREMENTS CAN
STUDENTS EXPECT WHEN THEY RETURN TO CAMPUS?

   • Hand washing and hand sanitizing will be required for students at the beginning of
the day, after physical activity, before and after any snack and/or lunch, after using the
bathroom or any time they enter a classroom.
   • All classrooms and common areas will be equipped with cleaning wipes, hand sanitizer,
       and additional sinks.
   • Access to lockers and other shared spaces will be limited and controlled.

I AM USUALLY CAREFUL ABOUT MY STUDENT NOT MISSING SCHOOL
UNLESS VERY ILL, BUT NOW I WANT TO MAKE SURE EVEN IF THEY ARE
A LITTLE UNDER THE WEATHER THEY CAN STAY HOME. HOW WILL YOU
ACCOMMODATE FOR ABSENCES?

Students who are not well may learn from home at any time through the use of livestream.
Students will log into their Learning Management System to find the links for the day.

MY CHILD HAS A RUNNY NOSE, CAN THEY COME TO SCHOOL?
You know your child best, and know if they are prone to symptoms caused by things like
allergies. A fever is a sign there is a true illness, however, symptoms like a cough or congestion
may be a regular occurrence. More than ever, we do encourage our students, faculty and staff
to remain home when ill.
