SuNMaP’s Approach Creating a sustainable demand Significant progress requires doing things differently Support to malaria control has been going on for some time in Nigeria, but now the country has committed itself to deliver `interventions that work.’ This is the central aim of Nigeria’s National Malaria Strategic Plan 2009-13. SuNMaP offers technical support to realise these national aims and help the country develop new “The mass net distribution in Kano strategies to deliver prevention and treatment packages so that they can reach and Anambra was so successful every mother, child and household. because you saw the great synergy amongst the partnership.” In Nigeria, one size does not fit all Mrs. Chiomah Amajoh, Head of Integrated SuNMaP is aware that each of the 37 States of Nigeria has a unique cultural Vector Management Unit, National Malaria Control Programme identity, hence our approach is not to develop rigid standardised strategies, methodologies or tools but adapt to the context in each state where we work. Similarly, partners on the ground are different so our support in each state is through different partnership models. Working with different sectors SuNMaP believes that all sectors contribute to public health but none alone can achieve a sustained and total solution. Strengthening the roles of each sector and the synergies between them are at the heart of our mixed model approach. SuNMaP Provides Technical Support and Commodities through all sectors for scaling up coverage SuNMaP and SuNMaP and SuNMaP and the Public Sector Civil Society the Commercial results in free distribution results in vulnerable groups Sector of commodities and being properly targeted results in mass market routine systems and creating a demand for response enabling lower and quality of care quality malaria services pricing and leading to improvement long-term sustainability
