ABOUT • Created by resolution in 1980 • An autonomous agency not legally affiliated with the Village of South Orange • Financially self-sufficient with all revenues derived from permits, meters and management fees. • No income from taxes or ticket revenue • Five Commissioners appointed by the Board of Trustees for an initial period of 5 years and eligible for unlimited re-appointment

CUSTOMER SERVICE • Electronic meters in the downtown core with built-in 5 minute grace period • Convenient Pay Stations which accept coins, bills, debit, credit and Smart Park cards • Pay-by-Cell available at all Pay Stations now and at meters this summer • Permits for business employees, commuters (residents & non-residents), residential day, night & overnight, temporary
PARTNERSHIPS & SERVICES • Ambassadors assist the public • Assist new businesses during construction • Work with businesses regarding deliveries • Assist with awareness and public safety • Work with DPW on snow removal and traffic control • Work with Buildings Dept. to report unauthorized soliciting • Work with SOPAC and SOVCA
BEYOND PARKING: JITNEY SERVICE • Originated in July, 2002 when the Village asked SOPA to administer Jitney Service using grant money to fund. • Senior Bus service added in November, 2002 when the Village asked SOPA to take over from Recreation Dept. • SOPA grew the service from one route and two buses to the current three routes and seven buses. • Ridership fees have remained the same since the beginning. • In 2011, the grant monies ran out. SOPA continues to subsidize Jitney Service by paying for driver salaries, benefits and admin services. • Annual expense to SOPA is more than $240K a year.
BEYOND PARKING: JITNEY SERVICE • Commuter Jitney Service to Newstead/Wyoming, Irvington/Prospect/Academy, Tuxedo Park/Montrose • Late night service added • FREE Senior Jitney Service Monday - Friday with service to supermarkets, doctor offices, beauty salons, US Post Office, library and other points of interest • Weekly senior trips to Essex Green, Target, Shop Rite and Whole Foods • Monthly senior trips to area malls • Free Jitney bus service provided to 15+ community activities and events from River Day to YMCA Summer School to the SOMA Baseball Parade
BEYOND PARKING: COMMUNITY SUPPORT • Our lots are used for events like the Farmers Market, PlayDay, Irvington Avenue Food Truck and Beer Garden and various car shows. • We were instrumental in having additional year-round lighting installed on Sloan Street and in several parking lots. • Our signage provides wayfinding and information. • We serve on the SOVCA Board and were essential in the startup of the organization’s operation and street cleaning initiative. • We are an integrated part of the life of South Orange.
PARKING TICKETS • Yes, we give them. Sorry. • They are an important management tool to attempt to meet the needs of all stakeholders who use our lots. • SOPA does not receive any revenue from parking tickets. • All ticket revenues go to the Village of South Orange. • On average, ticket revenue is approximately $350K annually.
NEW 3rd & VALLEY GARAGE • 513 spaces on 5 levels • 258 private spaces • 255 public spaces • Anticipated opening January, 2016 • SOPA is a hybrid sub-tenant paying a quarterly operating cost
