By all appearances, she had mastered being a grown-up. But beneath that veneer of success, she was a chronically anxious, self-medicang mess. Buy Yourself the F*cking Lilies is the story of Tara’s path to re-parenng herself and becoming a “ninja of self-love.” This is the book Tara wished someone had given her and it is the book many of us desperately need: a candid, hysterical, ad- dicvely readable, praccal guide to growing up (no maer where you are in life) and learning to love yourself in a non- throw-up-in-your-mouth-it’s-so-cheesy way. - Amazon May 19: A Thousand Ships by Natalie Haynes This is the women’s war, just as much as it is the men’s. They have waited long enough for their turn . . . The story of the Trojan War from the women’s point of view. This was never the story of one woman, or two. It was the story of them all . . . In the middle of the night, a woman wakes to find her beloved city engulfed in flames. Ten seemingly endless years of conflict between the Greeks and the Trojans are over. Troy has fallen. From the Trojan women whose fates now lie in the hands of the Greeks, to the Amazon princess who fought Achilles on their behalf, to Penelope awaing the return of Odysseus, to the three goddesses whose feud started it all, these are the stories of the women whose lives, loves, and rivalries were forever al- tered by this long and tragic war. March: Wild Oats—A retired teacher hits the jackpot when she receives a life insurance check mistakenly made out for five million dollars instead of fifty thousand dollars. She and her best friend then take off to the island of Gran Canaria in Spain, to make the trip of their lives, and at the same time become media sensations and fugitives from justice. April: Easter Under Wraps—Erin Cavendish goes undercover at her family's chocolate plant to see why sales are down when she meets head chocolatier, Bryan, who has new ideas on how to update the Easter product line. A BOOK AND A MOVIE BOOK CLUB Discussion: March, 10 April 14, May 12@ 1:30 – 2:30 pm Movie: March 23, April 27, May 25, @12:30pm Virtual and at the Columbus Senior Center, 125 N. Dickason St. March: Forrest Gump by Winston Groom Six foot six, 242 pounds, and possessed of a scant IQ of 70, Forrest Gump is the lovable, surprisingly savvy hero of this classic comic tale. His early life may seem inauspicious, but when the University of Alabama’s football team drafts Forrest and makes him a star, it sets him on an unbelievable path that will transform him from Vietnam hero to world-class Ping-Pong player, from wrestler to entrepre- neur. With a voice all his own, Forrest is telling all in a madcap romp through three decades of Amer- ican history.. – Amazon The movie stars Tom Hanks and Robin Wright. April: The Devil Wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger Andrea Sachs, a small-town girl fresh out of college, lands the job “a million girls would die for.” Hired as the assistant to Miranda Priestly, the high-profile, fabulously successful editor of Runway magazine, in a world populated by impossibly thin, heart-wrenchingly stylish women and beautiful men clad in fine-ribbed turtlenecks and tight leather pants. With breathtaking ease, Miranda can turn each and every one of these hip sophisticates into a scared, whimpering child. As things escalate from the merely unacceptable to the downright outrageous, Andrea begins to realize that the job a million girls would die for may just kill her. And even if she survives, she has to decide whether or not it’s worth the price of her soul. – Amazon The movie stars Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway. May: Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury Guy Montag is a fireman. His job is to destroy the most illegal of commodities, the printed book, along with the houses in which they are hidden. Montag never questions the destruction and ruin his actions produce, returning each day to his bland life and wife, Mildred, who spends all day with her television “family.” But when he meets an eccentric young neighbor, Clarisse, who introduces him to a past where people didn’t live in fear and to a present where one sees the world through the ideas in books instead of the mindless chatter of television, Montag begins to question every- thing he has ever known. – Amazon The movie stars Oskar Werner and Julie Christ 21

Call 920-623-5918 to schedule an appointment. If there was a new drug that alleviated symptoms for people living with demena, a pill that helped them to feel joyful and able to communicate again, we’d rush to make it available to every person in our care. All the more so if that same drug reduced falls, delirium, and pain; if it improved post-surgical and rehab outcomes; and if it reduced reliance on mood-altering medicaons. Those posive outcomes happen daily at Music & Memory cerfied organizaons in the U.S. and worldwide. But no miracle pill is involved. Rather, the effecve intervenon of favorite music, used according to evi- dence-based best pracces, is proving how personalized playlists offer an effecve, side-effect-free, non-pharmacological approach to improving quality of life and care. Personalized music can acvate cognion and improve family visits in assisted living communies, and boost spirits and decrease pain in paents in hospitals. Personalized playlists brighten moods for individuals in adult day centers and have a dramac impact on people in hospice and their families during their end of life journey. For individuals aging in place at home and their caregivers, research has shown that favorite songs provide respite, ease transions and reduce caregiver stress. As Music & Memory enters its tenth year, a growing body of research proves how personalized playlists change lives for the beer. These studies inform our training and fuel our efforts to spread the power of favorite music to millions more who could benefit.
