DAY 1 Saturday 10th April, 2021 MELBOURNE TO STAWELL Welcome to our 7-day tour to South Australia. Once we have loaded the coach, we are ready to go! Today is a travel day so sit back and enjoy the facilities aboard our 5 Star Touring Coach as we depart Melbourne, travel the Western Highway via Beaufort and Ararat to Halls Gap in the Grampians. A feature of today is a drive through the Gariwerd (Grampians) National Park. At the Boroka Lookout we gain extensive views across the Wimmera Plains. We continue on to Stawell where we have dinner at the hotel. OVERNIGHT: Magdala Motor Lodge, STAWELL DAY 2 Sunday 11th April, 2021 STAWELL TO HANDORF Departing Stawell after breakfast, we continue our journey towards the South Australian border. Our lunch venue is the Morning Loaf Bakery in Bordertown. You may not know that Bordertown is the hometown of former Australian Prime Minister Bob Hawke! This afternoon, we continue on the Dukes Highway through many small farming towns, stopping at Coonalpyn to view the magnificent artwork on the towns grain silo, before seeing the Murray River near Tailem Bend. The last leg of our travels today takes us past Murray Bridge, then to Hahndorf our base for the next four nights. The delightful Manna of Hahndorf is located right in the heart of the town. OVERNIGHT: Manna of Hahndorf, ADELAIDE HILLS
DAY 3 Monday 12th April, 2021 TOURING AND CRUISING We have some free time this morning to explore the main street. Later this morning, we re-join our coach and head to Murray Bridge – an hour to the east of Adelaide. We have arranged to join Captain Proud for a delightful luncheon cruise on the Murray River. Back on dry land we visit a South Australian icon, The Cedars which was the home and studio of world- renowned artist, Hans Heysen. Here we will enjoy a guided tour of the house and the studio (which has been kept just the way Hans Heysen left it, including some unfinished sketches) and the extensive gardens. This was his base as he painted extensively onsite in the hills around Hahndorf and in the Flinders Ranges. OVERNIGHT: Manna of Hahndorf, ADELAIDE HILLS DAY 4 Tuesday 13th April, 2021 ADELAIDE We make our way into Adelaide today where we have arranged a tour of the Adelaide Oval. The redeveloped oval offers a unique blend of new and old – from the latest in stadium design to the famous features such as the heritage listed scoreboard, the century-old Moreton Bay Fig trees and the grassed northern mound. Our tour will take us behind the scenes to the inner workings of this iconic ground. Early afternoon, we head to Glenelg, a seaside suburb where we enjoy our high tea lunch. We now have some free time to stroll along Jetty Road, or perhaps a walk along the beach or the jetty, before returning to Hahndorf. OVERNIGHT: Manna of Hahndorf, ADELAIDE HILLS DAY 5 Wednesday 14th April, 2021 EXPLORING HANDORF AND THE HILLS Today we will spend the full day exploring the Adelaide Hills. Our first morning stop is to Beerenberg Strawberry Farm. Fully Australian owned and all products are made at this farm. You may not know but Beerenberg products can now be found in 24 countries, on major airlines and in more than 300 hotels! From here we’ll embark on a unique enterprise on a behind the scenes tour of the biodynamic Jurlique Farm. We will see and learn about the nature and science behind their skin care products including the history of Jurlique, the display garden, seed propagation area, herb drying shed and the farm retail shop. As this is a working farm, we are required to wear closed in shoes and long trousers. Sit back, relax and enjoy the country air as we travel through the pretty townships of Aldgate and Stirling to reach the Stanley Bridge Tavern in Verdun for lunch. Later this afternoon we return to Hahndorf for a special experience being escorted around Historic Hahndorf township visiting Germanic cottages built in the 1830's and hearing special local stories along the way. After an enjoyable day we return to our accommodation with time to freshen up before dinner. OVERNIGHT: Manna of Hahndorf, ADELAIDE HILLS
DAY 6 Thursday 15th April, 2021 HAHNDORF TO MOUNT GAMBIER This morning we say farewell to our hosts and head south east. Travelling on the freeway to Murray Bridge we then head to Meningie for our morning break on the shores of Lake Albert. We’ll see a different view of the Coorong National Park on our right. The whole area is a superb natural bird sanctuary with vast numbers of waterbirds. The movie Storm Boy, a film about a young boy’s friendship with a pelican, was shot on the Coorong. Arriving in Kingston we see The Big Lobster and stop for lunch at the Royal Mail Hotel. This afternoon, we continue along the coast with some time to enjoy the seaside town of Robe, en-route to Mount Gambier for our overnight accommodation. OVERNIGHT: The Barn, MOUNT GAMBIER DAY 7 Friday 16th April, 2021 MOUNT GAMBIER TO MELBOURNE We travel back into Victoria this morning and into the very picturesque area of Victoria’s Western District, stopping for lunch at Camperdown. Camperdown sits on the great volcanic plain of Victoria’s Western District and is surrounded by crater lakes and volcanic cones. As we cross the “great volcanic plain” we travel alongside miles of fascinating dry-stone walls which are a feature of the countryside and known as the Stony Rises. The walls were built in the 1860s by highly skilled “wallers” from Ireland and Scotland. We continue on to Melbourne, where our chauffeurs will be waiting to take us home, right to our very door!
