29th August 2021 22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year B Dear friends, The image you’ll see with this message is of a bunch of the Australian Catholic Bishops. I snapped a screen shot to use this image, so the play button you can see in the middle won’t work until you go to the link I’ve popped in just below it. Here’s the link to activate the above: https://socialjustice.catholic.org.au/2021/06/24/social-justice-statement-2021-22/ It’s worth using the link and listening to this short that link you’ll be able to get into the statement or YouTube video - even just to listen for a minute to that access any of the following things too: bishop in the bottom middle, Charles Gauci, Bishop of Darwin. You’ll hear his familiar Maltese accent! And you’ll also hear some warm and heartfelt passion for creation through the mention of his beloved trees! So, what’s this about? This is the one weekend of every year when the Australian bishops share a ‘Social Justice Statement’ with a special theme. And this year the theme is ‘Cry of the Earth – Cry of the Poor’. In our Catholic faith teaching, the interconnected relationships of all of God’s creation are a central foundation. We believe that humanity doesn’t exist apart from – or above the rest of creation. Instead, our faith says that humanity is integral within the whole creation. Once you click into Continued page 2
Into your hands... Cover piece continued ... Here’s an example of one of those options. This one is the ‘Wonder & Awe’ prayer card. So, here’s to the gift of creation. And here’s to our growing knowledge of the issues of justice, ecology and peace that are central to our living of an active Catholic Christian faith. Let’s ask God to bless and encourage each of us to grow in our leadership as agents of God’s will and ways in creation. A World Day .. and a Season of Creation Very relevant to this theme, this Wednesday begins our Spring in the southern hemisphere. And that day, 1st September, in the Church throughout the world is World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation. Pope Francis established that focus day in 2015 and here’s an excellent link to an interesting site to give us creative ideas in our faith and action. https://cafod.org.uk/News/UK-news/Celebrate-World-Day-of-Prayer In that link, for example, you’ll find a fantastic ‘Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary for the Care of Creation’. And you can find out a little about ‘The Season of Creation’ – increasingly being embraced by faith groups and running from 1 September (World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation) to 4 October (the feast of Saint Francis of Assisi) each year. Let’s get on board as a faith people of God in this parish and take our place in the Season of Creation. With friendship in God’s mission, Fr Paul
