Our Mission It is the mission of the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF) to provide opportunities and support to people with physical challenges so they can pursue active lifestyles through physical fitness and competitive athletics. We believe that involvement in sports at any level increases self-esteem, encourages independence and enhances quality of life. Our Programs Grants for adaptive sports equipment like sports prosthetics, basketball wheelchairs, new all-terrain wheelchairs for trails, river, snow, and independence. Plus, funds for coaching, training, and competition travel -all typically not covered by insurance. Camps + Clinics to include new adaptive sports clinics like Para Nordic ski, golf, sailing, rock-climbing, beach volleyball plus running, triathlon, swimming, cycling, wheelchair basketball and more! High School Adaptive Sports Program provides inclusion for all athletes to participate on their high school track and field teams with coaching, equipment loaner program and resources. Operation Rebound – support for injured military, veterans and first responders to strengthen their mental and physical well-being through sports. Mentorship + Community – empowers newly injured and welcomes new people into the CAF community with mentors and a new CAF FIT kit being distributed through rehab hospitals, PT, and prosthetists.
A Future Ignited by Sport The Challenged Athletes Foundation believes that sport creates purpose and fuels dreams. That is why we are committed to providing athletes with physical disabilities life-changing access to sport, eliminating barriers to participation through the gift of adaptive sports equipment, athletic prosthetics, and the resources needed for coaching, travel, training, and competition. In 2022, CAF is focused on creating a future ignited by sport, shining a bright light on the adaptive sports movement and the incredible achievements of our athletes. We plan to offer even more opportunities for our athlete community to participate in events and adaptive sports clinics, experience invaluable mentorship and social engagement, and Our Northeast Growth feel empowered to chase their goals and dreams. The Heroes, Heart & Hope Gala, founded by Scott Stackman in 2006, has raised over $20 million to support the Challenged Athletes Foundation. CAF is committed to building on our current Northeast region success and growing the programs by: • Expanding our local clinic series to include more clinics and even more sports, specifically lifestyle sports like beach volleyball, fly fishing, sailing, wheelchair curling and more! • Partnering with Montefiore Medical Center and Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation and other hospitals to provide newly injured individuals with the support and resources. • Collaborating with Riverdale Country School, Edward R. Murrow High School and other schools to educate K-12 students, faculty, and parents on the importance of an active lifestyle, disability awareness, and a philanthropic mindset. • Teaming up with the New Jersey Devils and Philadelphia 76ers, Phillies and Flyers to offer athletes once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to meet and to learn from their sports heroes. • Supporting Team CAF athletes as they compete in local races and competitions such as the NYC Triathlon, the NYC Marathon, and the Kessler Foundation Wheelchair 10K. • Strengthening and building our CAF community through impactful events with athletes, volunteers, and supporters.

You will not want to miss this end-of-summer event honoring the incredible achievements and resilience of athletes with physical challenges. A Night That Will Transform You You will be inspired with stories of strength that exemplify the heart of our mission. Meet and mingle with challenged athletes while enjoying artfully crafted cocktails and culinary delights prepared by local chefs. Dance the night away to the sounds of The Rivertown Band and cap off the evening with music from DJ Danja and some late-night bites. CAF together with Gala Founder & Chair Scott and Emily Stackman and our honorees Richard and Christine Mack are excited to host the first annual Heroes, Heart and Hope Gala in the Hamptons.
Our Honorees Richard and Christine Mack Richard and Christine Mack are excited to be this year’s honorees at the 2022 Celebration of Heroes, Heart, and Hope. The Macks have been dedicated supporters of the Challenged Athletes Foundation since 2012, with a particular focus on expanding CAF’s alpine skiing grants and programs. They are passionate about skiing and cycling and, together with their three sons, live an active lifestyle. Richard and Christine have been inspired by watching CAF athletes courageously take on challenges and improve their everyday lives through dedication, focus, and extraordinary grit. They wholeheartedly believe in CAF’s mission and understand how transformative it is to empower people through sport. The couple lives in New York, where Christine is active in the art world and is a respected board member of multiple charitable organizations and Richard is Co-founder and CEO of Mack Real Estate Group and a generous philanthropist.
