MENTORING PROGRAM GOALS Promote an exchange of knowledge, skills, experiences and expertise Support personal and professional growth and development. Build confidence Support our future leaders in the water industry!
YOUR MATCH You should have received your mentor match–please check your spam All applications personally reviewed by committee and matches based on areas of interest, years of experience, goals of participation and where feasible and requested, geography (or virtual preference) If you see your match on this Zoom, feel free to chat them hello! PROGRAM OVERVIEW 12 months in length-pilot program You determine what works best and what is needed Flexible meetings (virtual or in person) Suggested meeting of once per month, but flexibility is paramount If pilot is successful, program will be expanded in 2023 Ground Rule: Confidentiality and Respect
PROGRAM STRUCTURE Commit to a one-year term: • Dec 2021-Nov 2022 • 1–3-hours per month, at most! Monthly (suggested) One-on-One Meetings - Can be as formal as attending an event or as informal as a video call Quarterly Group Activities: Professional development workshops, social/networking event, group outing or volunteer event Periodic check-ins from WMW, and a wrap- up at the end of the program
PROGRAM OVERVIEW: MENTEES Self-directed; you’re responsible to drive this relationship Own your own learning Ask your mentor questions - what do you most want to know? What do you attribute your success to? If you could go back in time and do anything differently, what would you do? How do you deal with being the only woman in the room? What overall educational or career advice do you have? Ask yourself questions (such as): What are my strengths? My weaknesses Where do I most need to grow & develop? How can I determine my blind spots to career growth? Are there any barriers that can stand in the way of achieving my goal? What formal skills do I need? What informal or “soft” skills do I need? Where do I want to be in one year? Five years? Ten years?
PROGRAM OVERVIEW: MENTORS Be proactive in reaching out Value diversity of perspective Be non-judgmental and remember your own early career challenges Establish expectations Set goals mutually Set a contact schedule Ask questions of your mentee -such as: What do you really want to be & do? What is working in your career? What areas do you feel comfortable addressing on your own and what areas require more support? How can I help you grow your network? Is there anyone with a skillset you would like me to introduce you to? How can I help you achieve your goals?
