Febr uar y 2 0 18 - V ol. 2 , N o. 3 Lakeville, Minnesota - Positioned to Thr ive 2018 Landscape & Home Expo on March 10 The Lakeville Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting its 2018 Landscape & Home Expo on Saturday, March 10 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event takes place at Lakeville North High School (19600 Ipava Avenue) and will feature over 150 exhibitors that can assist attendees with home improvement projects and services. Come visit with city staff members at this great event! Lakeville Ribbon Cuttings and Grand Openings On February 15, a ribbon cutting was held to celebrate The Property Geeks' downtown location and its new event space, The Bonus Room. Both businesses are located at 20908 Holyoke Avenue (across from Lakeville Tire & Auto Service). For more information about the businesses, visit thepropertygeeks.com or thebonusroomlakeville.com. Alibi Drinkery is another new establishment in Downtown Lakeville. The bar restaurant has replaced Heavy Metal Grill, located at 20851 Holyoke Avenue, and recently added a neon sign to their storefront.
Additional grand openings were held in late February at Caribou Coffee & Einstein Bros. Bagels, located at 17880 Kenwood Trail (near Culver's), and Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers, located at 16076 Pilot Knob Road (near Hy-Vee). Downtown Development Guide Being Updated The City of Lakeville continues to work on updating the Downtown Development Guide. The next public meeting is Tuesday, March 6 at 6 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall. Open house attendees will have an opportunity to see the current draft ideas for the downtown district and voice their opinions on the proposed land uses presented. This feedback will be incorporated into the final vision and Downtown Development Guide document. Your feedback on the plan is appreciated! Share your thoughts by taking this brief survey about Downtown Lakeville. Upcoming Open House Meetings Scheduled on the Comprehensive Plan Work on the City's Comprehensive Plan is underway and the next round of neighborhood meetings began on February 27. All affected land owners will receive a notice in the mail alerting them to any land use designation changes, along with an invitation to attend the appropriate district meeting. All meetings are 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Comprehensive Plan meeting locations by district: District 4 & 6 - Tuesday, March 6 - City Hall (Council Chambers) District 5 - Tuesday, March 13 - Central Maintenance Facility District 1 & 7 - Tuesday, March 20 - Water Treatment Facility (training room)
Career and College Transfer Fair Being Held at Dakota County Technical College Dakota County Technical College (DCTC) in Rosemount is hosting an on-campus Career & College Transfer Fair on March 27 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The fair is focused on internship and employment opportunities for academic programs at DCTC, along with transfer options for student career advancement and/or four-year degrees and beyond. DCTC anticipates about 50 tables and around 80 representatives will attend. If your business would like to take advantage of this unique opportunity to meet with motivated and talented DCTC students, you can register online (the cost is $10 to participate). Initiative Seeking Investors The Lakeville Area Chamber of Commerce continues to build its list of investing business partners for the Lakeville Works! Initiative. Eleven companies have joined the effort since its launch in November. Lakeville Works! seeks to help employers from the Transportation, Construction, Manufacturing and STEM (Science, Technology and Math) industries recruit qualified applicants, train workers, and encourage advancement on a career pathway and retain employees. Its vision is to build a pipeline of skilled workers by cultivating collaboration among key partners and identifying/addressing the industry's most fundamental training and skill development needs. Upcoming objectives include establishing an Advisory Board and launching a Lakeville Jobs website. Building Permit Report The City has issued building permits with a total valuation of $32,691,279 through February. This compares to a total valuation of $32,795,368 for building permits issued through February of 2017. The City issued commercial and industrial permits with a total valuation of $3,646,500 through February compared to a total valuation of $1,016,500 during the same period in 2017. The City has issued permits for 49 single-family homes through February with a total valuation of $15,507,000. This compares to 61 single-family home
permits through February of 2017 with a total valuation of $18,503,000. According to the Builders Association of the Twin Cities, Lakeville has issued the highest number of residential permits in the Twin Cities through February, followed by Woodbury, Plymouth, Savage and Minneapolis.
