2022 CALIFORNIA PACIFIC CONFERENCE BASEBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS 5.0 OPERATIONS 5.1 Artificial Noisemakers All forms of artificial noisemakers are prohibited in Hohokam Stadium. In-stadium sound systems, public address announcements, and any music are prohibited when the ball is live or being made ready for play. 5.2 Automatic Bids & Format The bracket for the championship shall be double-elimination format with five teams and shall be established by the conference commissioner. The top five teams in the regular season standings, based on the league tiebreakers as needed, shall qualify. In 2022, the Cal Pac will have two direct qualification bids to the NAIA national tournament. Bid #1 shall be awarded to the regular season champion (#1 seed). Bid #2 shall be awarded to the tournament winner. If the tournament winner is the Cal Pac regular season champion, the automatic bid shall be awarded to tournament runner-up. 5.3 Awards All-Conference awards will be announced on the first day of the championship, and the student-athletes shall be recognized as part of the starting lineups during their first game. 5.4 Awards Reception – None in 2022 Due to COVID protocols throughout the 2021-22 academic year, no awards receptions will take place this year. 5.5 Baseballs The Rawlings FSR100NAIA is the official baseball for all games of the Cal Pac Championships. Game balls will be furnished by the conference. Teams must provide their own practice balls. 5.6 Banners & Signs Only approved banners and signage may be displayed in the stadium. The tournament manager is authorized to approve, limit, or restrict any team signage regarding appearance and content. No commercial identification may appear on any non-tournament signage. 5.7 Bat Testing By rule, bat testing shall take place prior to each team’s first contest in the championship event. The Cal Pac shall supply conference-championship stickers for the event. Teams arriving at the site the day prior to the event may have their bats tested by the trained tournament staff prior to their selected practice time. 2022 CALIFORNIA PACIFIC CONFERENCE BASEBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS After the bats are tested, any approved bats shall remain approved for the duration of the championship. Any bats which fail testing shall be confiscated and returned to the team after their involvement in the event is concluded. If a team wishes to have a replacement bat tested after the event has started, such testing shall take place by prior arrangement with the tournament staff two hours prior to the team’s contest. Any bats with missing stickers shall be removed from play, but may be retested prior to the team’s contest per the normal protocol. The host institution shall work with nearby Cal Pac members to secure additional bat testing equipment to streamline the process. 5.8 Batting Practice & Cages Batting practice shall be conducted on the field of competition (and in practice cages) for teams playing the first game each day. Practice on Day 1 wil be on the back field only. Team playing all other games shall utilize the practice field beyond center field. The hitting cages are the property of the Oakland A’s, and are not available for use during the tournament. 5.9 Cancellation of Tournament If the tournament is not completed, the NAIA automatic bid shall be awarded to the team which has progressed furthest through the conference tournament and has the higher conference or national rating. 5.10 Champions of Character Each team shall name an individual as its Champion of Character recipient to will be recognized during the event. The deadline for submission is May 2 as part of the all- conference nomination process. The Cal Pac values statement shall be read live by student-athletes participating in Games 1- 2-3 on Day 1, and prior to Game 8 on Friday. 5.11 Coaches Meeting - Mandatory A conference call will be held on Sunday, May 1, at 5:00 p.m. PDT, to review championship procedures, rules and policies. Participation is mandatory for the head coach and a designated administrator of each participating institution. Teams shall pre-screen their travel party prior to departure, and all individuals will be screened upon arrival at the stadium for either their first practice or competition. 7
2022 CALIFORNIA PACIFIC CONFERENCE BASEBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS 5.13 Credentials Non-transferable credentials are required for team personnel to access the stadium. Any unauthorized use or redistribution shall result in confiscation and immediate dismissal from the tournament. Credentials shall be issued as follows: TEAM - Valid for admission and access to team areas, practice and playing fields. Coaches, managers, student-athletes, and trainers receiving TEAM credentials shall be listed on the Official Travel Party form. A maximum of 31 TEAM credentials shall be provided. All players must display the credential for access to the stadium. STAFF - Valid for admission and access to working areas. Not valid for access to team areas. OFFICIAL - Valid for admission and access to playing field, officials’ locker room, and hospitality areas. Issued to umpires and coordinators staffing the tournament. ALL ACCESS - Valid for access to all tournament facilities at any time. Provided to game management staff, tournament personnel, and limited team representatives. VIP - Valid for admission and access to the VIP hospitality area. 5.14 Drug Testing Consent Form Participating institutions shall assure that each student-athlete has signed a valid NAIA drug testing consent form prior to the beginning of tournament play. Institutions must verify compliance prior to competition. 5.15 Dugout & Bullpen Assignments The designated home team shall occupy the first base dugout and take infield practice first. The designated visiting team shall occupy the third base dugout and take infield practice second. A team playing a second consecutive game on the same day will not be required to change dugouts, regardless of the home/visitor designation for the second game. The lower bullpen (closer to the field) shall be used by the designated home team. The upper bullpen shall be used by the designated visiting team. 5.16 Game Times Game times shall be set by the Cal Pac Conference in conjunction with the host institution and facility management. After the first game of each day, subsequent contests shall start 30 minutes following the preceding contest. 5.17 Games Committee The Games Committee shall consist of a Cal Pac Conference representative, the facility/tournament manager, and the conference officials’ supervisor or the umpire crew chief (if the supervisor is not available). 8
2022 CALIFORNIA PACIFIC CONFERENCE BASEBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS 5.18 Home Team Designation The home team for Games 1, 2, and 3 shall be the team with the better seed. For all subsequent games, the following formula shall be used, in this order: 5.18.1 The team which has been the home team fewer times in the tournament shall be designated the home team. 5.18.2 If the two teams have been the home team an equal number of times, but are unequal in the number of times they have been the visitor, the team which has been the visitor more often will be the home team. 5.18.3 If the two teams are equal in their home/visitor designations: 5.18.3.1 The team which was visitor in its preceding game shall be the home team, unless both teams were visitors in their preceding contest. 5.18.3.2 If the two teams have met previously in the tournament, the visitor in the previous game shall be the home team. 5.18.3.3 If the above steps do not resolve the designation, the home team shall be the team with the better seed. If a team is playing consecutive games, it shall not change dugouts even if its home/visitor designation changes. 5.19 Hospitality Hospitality refreshments will be supplied in the VIP area, in the press box for working media/staff, and in the umpire dressing area throughout the tournament. Beverages and ice will be available for the teams. Each team is responsible for providing its own meals and energy bars/snacks during the event. 5.20 Hotel, Headquarters - Phoenix Marriott Mesa The tournament headquarters hotel is the Phoenix Marriott Mesa, located at 200 N. Centennial Way in Mesa. (480) 898-8300. Room blocks must be reserved by April 15 to secure the tournament rate. 5.21 Laundry Teams are responsible for their own laundry arrangements. 5.22 Length of Game / 10-run rule All games shall be scheduled as 9-inning contests. The Cal Pac 10-run rule will be in effect for all tournament games, except for the championship contest(s). If a team trails by 10 runs after completing 7 innings (6.5 if home team), the game shall be ended. 9
2022 CALIFORNIA PACIFIC CONFERENCE BASEBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS 5.23 Locker Rooms / Clubhouse Access The home team locker room is located on the first base side of the stadium. The visiting team locker room is located on the third base side. Teams should come to the field dressed and ready to play in case preceding games are not concluded. Once a contest is concluded, teams shall immediately vacate the locker room. The next team shall not occupy the locker room until the team from the previous game has vacated. Teams should provide their own toiletries, soap, and towels. 5.24 Media & Sports Information Requests for media credentials shall be submitted to Benedictine Mesa sports information director Angel Zazueta (azazueta@ben.edu). The media work room is located in the Hohokam Stadium press box. Each institution’s SID shall provide appropriate and updated photos and biographical information to Angel Zazueta for use in stadium and in-game notes. 5.25 Medical Procedures Each clubhouse is equipped with an athletic training room for participating team use. The main training room is in the team shop on the concourse and is available for use prior to and during each practice session and contest. A certified athletic trainer will be on site. Each institution is strongly encouraged to provide their own trainer to service their team’s needs. Each dugout will have a treatment table, injury ice (with bags and wrap), and a biohazard kit, along with two 10-gallon water coolers and cups. Ice and towels can be provided upon request. 5.26 Merchandise The Cal Pac retains exclusive rights to souvenir products for the championships. Institutions may not sell their own products during the tournament in the stadium or on the grounds. 5.27 National Anthem The national anthem shall be played or performed prior to the first game of each day of the tournament. Additional performances may be added as determined by the tournament hosts. 5.28 Number of Games No team shall play more than two (2) games on any day of the tournament. 5.29 Parking Team vehicles shall unload and park down the right field line near the batting cages of the stadium or in the Player Parking lot. Media, administrators, and staff shall use the Player Parking lot on the right field side of the stadium. Umpires will park in the lot near Gate C at the front of the facility. Access to parking is by the credential provided by the conference. 10
2022 CALIFORNIA PACIFIC CONFERENCE BASEBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS 5.30 Participant Lists Per NAIA postseason policy, teams shall be limited to 25 players in uniform, a maximum of 6 coaches/bench personnel, and 2 Certified Athletic Trainers. The official participant list shall be submitted by May 1. Changes may be made up to the conclusion of the mandatory meeting on the evening prior to the tournament. (Appendix 5) 5.31 Pass Lists There are no team pass lists for the tournament. Teams may purchase tickets for distribution. 5.32 Player Introductions Each team shall be introduced prior to its first game of the tournament and prior to the first Championship game. Teams shall line up on their respective baseline facing the stands. The visiting team shall be introduced first, followed by the home team. Introductions shall commence with non-starters in numerical order, followed by the starters in batting order. In all other games, only the starting lineups shall be announced, and teams will not report to the base lines. 5.33 Post-Game Procedures Teams shall immediately clear the playing surface and dugout to provide access for the next contest. Teams have 15 minutes to vacate the locker room after each contest. 5.34 Practice & Practice Fields On the day prior to the start of tournament play, all teams will receive 75 total minutes of practice time on a field assigned by the host site. In Mesa, the Hohokam Stadium field is not available for practice on the day prior to the tournament. Instead, teams shall use the practice field beyond the centerfield fence. If the game ends in a protestable situation, the head coach has 30 seconds to make the protest. Protests must be lodged with the umpire-in- chief, or the home plate umpire. No protests involving a judgement decision by an umpire are allowed. All protests shall be immediately ruled upon by the Games Committee. 5.36 Radio Booths are available in the press box for team radio use. Teams planning to broadcast must contact Angel Zazueta, the BENU SID, by May 2 to reserve space. 5.37 Scouting Teams are allowed to view all games in-person. Professional scouts do not need to purchase a ticket to the event. 5.38 Seeding Seeding for the tournament shall be determined by the Cal Pac commissioner and is based on the Cal Pac baseball sport regulations. The #1 seed shall be the regular season champion, and will receive a first-round bye. 5.39 Sportsmanship / Values Statement The official Cal Pac character values statement shall be read over the public address system by student-athletes representing the competing teams in Games 1, 2, 3 and 8 of the championship tournament. 12
2022 CALIFORNIA PACIFIC CONFERENCE BASEBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS 5.40 Tickets Single game tickets are $10 adults / $5 children (under 12) and participating students with a valid college ID. The All-Session Pass is $25. All tickets will be purchased electronically using a cashless QR code and/or weblink. On-line purchases only. 5.41 Tobacco No tobacco products of any kind are permitted at the tournament. Smoking, vaping, or electronic cigarettes are prohibited. 5.42 Travel Party & Participant List Teams shall have a maximum travel party of 33 individuals, made up of no more than 25 players, six (6) coaches/bench personnel, and two (2) Certified Athletic Trainers. No substitutions in the category maximums is allowed. Each institution must submit the official participant list (Appendix 1, or on the conference website) to the Cal Pac commissioner (dott@calpacathletics.com) by the Monday prior to the tournament (May 2, 2022). No changes to the list or roster may be made after May 3. A fillable form will be sent to each participating institution’s AD via email. 5.43 Uniforms The home team shall wear white uniforms. The visiting team must wear a uniform which contrasts with the home team. During competition and awards events, competitors shall wear official team apparel. All personnel in the dugout, locker rooms, and practice areas must be in official team apparel. 5.44 Umpires NAIA certified umpires shall be assigned by the Cal Pac baseball officials supervisor, and shall be paid for by the Cal Pac Conference. Teams from the NAIA West shall reimburse the Cal Pac for the actual cost of officials for the games in which they participate. The conference will bill the institutions directly at the completion of the tournament. A three-man crew shall be used, except for the championship game(s), in which a four-man crew shall be used. 5.45 Videotaping Teams may only videotape games in which they participate. Teams must supply all their own equipment, including power supply, cables, and extension cords. 5.46 Visit Mesa The local partner with Benedictine Mesa and the Cal Pac is Visit Mesa, the planning and promotional arm for the city. Visit Mesa assists in bringing quality events to the city, and works as the liaison among the university, conference, Oakland A’s, business, marketing, and hotel properties. 5.47 Weather All games must be completed by Friday, May 6, 2022. If weather requires a change in competition, the conference commissioner and tournament committee shall determine an 13
2022 CALIFORNIA PACIFIC CONFERENCE BASEBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS alternate format, including adjusting to a single elimination format, moving the event, or adjusting the playing dates. 5.48 Web-Streaming All games will be streamed live on Stretch Internet with access through both the Cal Pac and Benedictine Mesa websites. Teams may not produce their own version of the contests for distribution. 14
