2021 SPEC DAY CAMP Come enjoy a summer full of games, arts & crafts, sports, nature, swimming, field trips, special theme days, Amy’s Sparkle Park (Spec Splash Pad), and a whole lot of fun! The Spec Day Camp is an affordable, licensed day camp operated by the Wilbraham Parks & Recreation Department for over 25 years! Registration is on a first-come, first serve basis and payment is required at time of registration. Payment plans are accepted with final pay- ment due by June 4; see the Parent Pack for details. Health Forms are required. Who: Boys and girls ages 5-13 from Wilbraham and surrounding towns (children must be 5 by the week they attend camp) Hours: 9:00AM - 3:30PM, M-F. Session 1: July 6-9 (4 days) Session 2: July 12-16 Session 3: July 19-23 Session 4: July 26-30 Session 5: August 2-6 Session 6: August 9-13 SPEC DAY CAMP Counselor-in-Training Program - Teens Ages 14 & 15 Why not use this summer to add some skills to your resume while having a ton of fun? This program offers an excellent opportunity for teens ages 14-15 to gain leadership experience in a camp setting. CITs will learn valuable tools for any workplace; program planning, managing and directing, creating programs, supervising and more. WHO: Teens ages 14 and 15 - Teens must apply and be accepted. Space is limited WHEN: Choose one or both three-week sessions (July 6-23 or July 26-August 13) COST: Session 1- $275. Residents/ $300. Non-Residents Session 2- $275. Residents/ $300. SUMMER ACTIVITIES INCREDIFLIX® STOP MOTION AND MOVIE CREATION! July 12-16, Ages 7-13. Half day or full day options! All Flix emailed within a month after program ends. Action Movie Flix: 9:00am-12:00pm, Ages 7-13: Adventure awaits you in these high intensity movies, where you’ll use a green screen, camera tricks & special effects to create your own live-action action movie. You’ll collaborate to write, act & direct in this stunt packed movie where you’ll be taught action choreography to thrill the audience. LEGO Flix: 1:00pm-4:00pm, Ages 7-13: Bring LEGO worlds to life! We provide the LEGOs. You provide your imagination. Work in groups to create a LEGO set with LEGO characters for a stop-motion movie you’ll storyboard, shoot and add voice-overs to. ACTION & LEGO COMBO FLIX: Full Day: 9:00am-4:00pm MAD SCIENCE: Junior Scientist Fun Lab: July 26-30, 9am -12pm, Ages Pre-K Pre-schoolers discover science! This program is a great introduction to science as preschoolers explore the human body and our senses, the science of colors and the way things move. Children may explore fossils and take an exciting mission with Mad Science to explore the planets, moons and stars. Junior Scientists continue the science at home with take-home projects related to each subject. Crazy Chemworks: Aug 2-6, 9am -12pm, Entering Grades 1-5 Shake up a flask of fun in the lab as a junior chemist! This week of fun is packed solid with explorations of cool chemical and physical reactions, laboratory equipment, acids and bases, florescence, states of matter, atoms and molecules and much more! Children take home a complete set of labware by the end of the week to continue the chemistry fun at home. Eureka! Inventions: Aug 2-6, 1pm -4pm, Entering Grades 1-5: An exciting program exploring famous inventors such as da Vinci, Edison, Archimedes, Franklin and even Rube Goldberg, along with contributions each made to science, engineering and society. Guided by our Mad Scientist, children use knowledge and creativity to overcome a series of challenges using basic materials, simple machines, tips from famous inventors and most importantly - their minds! While Thomas Edison said "invention is 10% inspiration and 90% perspiration", this program is 100% FUN! FULL-DAY OPTION: 9am - 4pm SUMMER ART-VENTURES FOR KIDS: Fairies and Dragons ART-Ventures: July 12-16, 9am-12pm, Ages 5-12 Enter the fantasy world of imagination, where art-venturers unleash their inner elves as they conjure up fire-breathing dragons, transform colorful clay into silly goblin masks, and create winged fairy or armored knight dolls. Enjoy an enchanted week of two and three dimensional works of art! Storytelling is included in these fun, fantasy-filled art-ventures! Jungle Journey ART-Ventures in the Rainforest: Aug.9-13, 9am -12pm, Ages 5-12 Art explorers take their inner artists for a walk in the rainforest and discover endangered creatures who live there. Experience fabric design, sculpting animals out of clay, making bug boxes, creating rainforest flowers and more. Fun facts about endangered animals and how to save the rainforest are included. PLAY-WELL WITH LEGO : July 19-23 Pokemon Engineering: 9am-12pm, Ages 5-7 Join Ash and Pikachu as you build, capture, train, and explore the vast world of Pokémon with tens of thousands of LEGO® parts. Design your own Poké Balls, explore the Kanto region, and fly with Charizard. Explore engineering through the fun world of Pokémon with the guidance of a Play-Well instructor. Pokemon Master Engineering with LEGO: 1-4pm, Ages 7-12 Start your training in Pallet Town and expand your Pokédex as you collect your favorite Pokémon with LEGO® materials. Surf with Blastoise, challenge Team Rocket, and earn badges from gym leaders on your way to the Pokémon League. Design and build as never before and explore your craziest ideas while learning about STEM concepts. CHESS WIZARDS! July 26-30, Ages 6-12. Options: 8am -11pm / 11pm -2pm / Full Day, 8am -2pm Join us this summer for tons of challenging chess lessons, exciting games, and cool prizes. You'll improve your chess skills, meet new friends, and work out your most powerful muscle - your brain! Our camps include fun team chess games, snacks, tournaments, and puzzles. Each camper receives a T-shirt, trophy, and puzzle folder. Our interactive curriculum makes learning fun for new and seasoned players alike. Our camps are led by our most experienced instructors, and provides our students with a memorable camp experience while challenging their minds. POP STAR: July 19-23, 9am -3pm, Ages 5-15 Everyone loves to sing and dance like their favorite “PopStar” and now they can! Dress-up in PopStar attire, and sing and dance to favorite songs with friends. The program includes: learning song lyrics, learning dance routines, crafts (new craft every day), singing with microphone & headset, make videos, fun games, fitness fun fest and a program for parents. 6

CIRCUIT LAB: Circuit Makers 101 June 28 -July 2, 9AM-12PM, Ages 6-8 Let’s get creative with electricity! In this junior hands-on electronics class, students will gain experience with creating their own electronics; designing custom light-up greeting cards, electric games, mazes, and even musical instruments. Each class day consists of a circuitry lesson and a hands-on electronics project, using components like lights, buzzers, switches, motors, and sensors. Circuit Lab staff will make sure participants create a project that they can be proud of each day. Most class days include a take-home project. App Inventors June 28 - July 2, 1-4PM, Ages 9-13 Want to know how the apps work on your phone or iPad? Or do you already have the next great app idea, and just need to know how to make it? In this no-experience-required course, we use MIT App Inventor soft- ware to make fun, creative apps for Android phones and tablets. We will also explore wireless communication by building custom bluetooth hardware controllers and readouts for our apps. Participants will learn both the programming and design aspects of creating great apps, and have the opportunity to build apps of their own with the support of Circuit Lab instructors. SUMMER SPORTS FALCON FOOTBALL CLINIC: June 21 & 22 (Mon/Tues) 9am-12pm, Gr. 2 - 9. Learn the basics and improve your skills with Will Nickerson, head MRHS football coach with lots of experience teaching this all-American sport. A fun environment to learn and improve!. Register early! VALLEY BLUE SOX BASEBALL CLINIC: July 12-15 (Mon-Thurs), 9am-12pm, Ages 6-13 Blue Sox coaches and players will provide instruction for the duration of the clinic. Every child receives a pair of tickets to Blue Sox Clinic Night, and an opportunity to take the field with the Blue Sox during pregame ceremonies! JUNIOR GOLF AT THE CC OF WILBRAHAM: June 21-24 (Mon-Thurs), 9-10AM, ages 8-14. This instructional program will provide a golfing experience that is safe and enjoyable. Junior Golf is taught by a Professional who is knowledgeable and teaches a well rounded approach. FENWAY GOLF- All about FUN!! Two Sessions: June 21-25 AND Aug. 16-20, 9am-Noon, Ages 7-14. Sessions include fun-time at the mini-golf, driving range, and pitch and putt. Bring a few extra dollars for a snack at the snack-shop! Register for one or both sessions! Held at Fenway Golf with WPRD summer staff! GOLD STAR SOCCER: July 5-9: 9am-4pm (full day) for ages 7-14 9am-1pm (half day) for ages 5-7 This program focuses on individual technical & tactical skills, group play, speed & agility, and individual ball handling. 413ATC Softball Clinic: Softball Hitting & All-Skills Clinic:June 28 - July 1 (Mon-Thurs) Ages 6 - 14 . Take the opportunity to hone your hitting, fielding and general all-around softball skills. Receive coaching on power games, short games, and mechanics. Bring your bat, glove, helmet and masks to every session. Hitting Skills: Monday, July 19 - Thursday, July 22 Ages 6 - 14 . Use 413ATC's indoor training facility (indoor batting tunnels) to further develop your softball hitting skills. Bring your bat, glove, helmet and masks to every session. SKYHAWKS SPORTS ACADEMY: June 21-June 25, Ages 2-5, Baseball/Basketball/Soccer Age 2 - 9:00am-9:45am Age 3 - 10:00am-10:45am Ages 4-5 - 11:00am-11:45am July 6-9, 9am -12pm, Ages 5-7, Soccer/Basketball/Baseball July 6-9, 9am -12pm, Ages 7-12, Track & Field Camp July 12-16, 9am -1pm, Ages 7-12, Flag Football Aug. 2-6, 8:30am - 9:15am, Ages 3 - 4, Soccer & Basketball Aug, 2-6, 9:30am -12:30pm, Ages 4 -7, Soccer/Basketball/Baseball SkyHawks programs are broken-up by ages (3-4, 4-7, 7-12) .
