Girls are ready to go to Girl Scout camp
this summer, and in fact, they need it
more than ever.
Dear Girl Scout families,
The last year has been a whirlwind, and has reaffirmed for us just how important
it is for girls to spend quality time in the great outdoors. Girls have experienced
unprecedented levels of loneliness, depression, and anxiety, and they miss their
friends in a big way. They miss the meaningful connections they’ve built with their
Girl Scout friends. I think we all do.
Girls are ready to go to Girl Scout camp this summer, and in fact, they need it more
than ever. We’re ready for a summer filled with empowering and safe adventures,
and opportunities for girls to connect in the great outdoors. Spending time outdoors is
critical for girls, especially after a year of significantly increased screen time and lots
of extra time spent indoors. Going outside allows our girls to come back better, more
resilient and courageous, with extra memories and joy.
This summer, give your girl the gift of Girl Scout camp: a place where she can safely
spend time with her closest friends, making memories that will make her cheeks hurt
from smiling so much. We can’t wait to see your girls and families at Girl Scout camp

Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan recognizes that camp Staff Training

Camp Food
Great camp food starts with great ingredients, which is why
Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan partners with local sources
and companies who care about quality ingredients.
Whenever possible, we avoid serving highly-processed
and pre-prepared dishes. Meals at camp are kid-friendly
and healthy. Our kitchens are nut-free, and our certified
kitchen coordinators can accommodate gluten-free and
vegetarian diets. If your camper has any food allergies or
dietary restrictions, be sure to list them in detail on the
health form at registration. This allows us to plan ahead
to ensure that all campers have food that accommodates
their needs while they are at camp. For more information,

Camp is going galactic! Join us for an out-of-this-world experience where you and your girl will
build rockets, create galaxy slime, eat space food, and even hunt aliens! You’ll also get to enjoy
classic camp activities like archery (2nd grade and up), boating, slingshot, and swimming. You
can sign up for a horseback riding lesson (2nd grade and up) online for $25 per rider for a one-
hour lesson. Girls may bring any adult female ages 18 or older. Note: Fee includes lodging and

The CIT program provides a hands-on learning experience
that puts you on the path to becoming a fabulous camp
counselor! You’ll be trained by seasoned camp staff on
topics such as age characteristics, outdoor skills, songs,
and games. In addition to sharing their individual talents
with others, CITs will learn how to plan and facilitate
programming, effective teaching techniques, and get
experience being a leader in a fun, girl-led environment!
After you have successfully completed your CIT 1, you’ll be
ready to take on CIT 2.

practice your skills! This hands-on experience provides

will have the option of helping in a unit or in an activity
area such as horses or high adventure. Applications will be
mailed out in February to all campers who completed both
CIT 1 & 2. Girls who submit a Junior Counselor application
will be contacted by the director of their preferred camp by
mid-April.
