COVID-19 UPDATES The 2021 Summer Day Camp program will adhere to any COVID-19 restrictions that apply. The guidelines and restrictions are very fluid and the following activity restrictions may change at any given time. Any changes will be communicated prior to implementation. Ac�vity Yes/No Quick Answer Field Trips Yes Each week we will bring entertainers and on-site field trips that follow the weekly camp themes Camp will include recreational swim time at the aquatic center at least once per week. As Swimming Yes guidelines evolve for swimming pool capacity, our team will continue to work to find additional swim time for the children in the camp program. Swim lessons at the aquatic center are being offered before camp hours this year. Campers who register for swim lessons will be checked in at the aquatic center and then walked to camp with Swim Lessons Yes staff at the end of their lesson. Once the swim lesson schedule is available, our team will share it with all camp families. Tennis lessons through E-Town Tennis are being offered after camp hours this year. Further Tennis Lessons Yes information will be made available in the 2021 summer brochure. An ongoing interest list has been developed for families who would like to register a child for a Teen & Preschool camp that serves 3-4 year olds or 6th- 8th graders. To join this list visit recreation.lwd.org. If Maybe Camp additional space within the community can be secured, we will strive to offer a camp option for these age groups. Specialty camps are also available for youth up to age 13. The program will adhere to current mask mandates and guidelines. At this time, masks will be Masks at Camp Yes required. This is especially when physical distancing is not possible. Campers will have the opportunity to enjoy playgrounds on a daily basis. Groups of campers will likely rotate through playground time, masks will be worn while on the equipment, and Playground Play Yes campers will wash/disinfect their hands before and after using the equipment. The playgrounds will remain open to the public. When possible, camp will use the playground during slow times. SPECIALTY CAMPS Are you looking for a specialty camp? All participants will be evaluated on skills and age to form camp groups. Our professional coaches will make sure players of all ages and abilities can get the most out of their camp experience. Your kids will be challenged, entertained and kept active throughout the morning. Campers are require to wear soccer shoes and shin guards, and bring a water bottle. Parents should plan to attend a brief parent meeting on the first day of camp to get a quick overview of the program. 5
SPECIALTY CAMPS CHEER AND YOGA CAMP Under the direction of Chicago Loves Dance instructors, participants will be sure to have a blast in this summer outdoor camp. Participants will learn cheer and poms choreography, and will also work on flexibility, relaxation and stretching in a daily yoga session. Participants will learn a variety of cheers daily, work on form, and add on to their poms dance routine. Participants will then move into a yoga/stretch session where they will learn traditional kids yoga poses, while working on stretches that are helpful for cheer movements. If guidelines allow, the last day of the class will be a parent watch day highlighting everything learned at camp. SPECIALTY CAMPS MECHANICAL ENGINEERING CAMP Campers learn how mechanical engineering principles are applied to create the wonderful machines that make up our world. They will be building working models of machines, mechanisms, hydraulic cranes and much more as they take an adventure through the world of mechanical engineering. Students also get to take their creations home. Participants use code blocks and library of characters enabling them to focus on the logic & enjoy the learning experience! Working on different levels, young coders think creatively, reason systematically and problem-solve to create their own interactive stories, games & animations. While developing games and apps, they will also learn programming concepts like variables, conditional statements, animation, loops, vent handling, and operators. SPECIALTY CAMPS SPORTS AND MORE CAMP Campers are introduced to the fundamentals of sports including basketball, floor hockey, football, kickball, soccer, t-ball and other sports and group games. The program provides an opportunity for each child to develop motor skills and nurture his/her growth socially and emotionally through teamwork and good sportsmanship.
