general information PROGRAMMING DURING COVID-19 1 REGISTRATION - All program registration will either be done online, through the mail or dropped off outside our Recreation office in the silver drop-box. No “in person” registration will take place at this time. If the Recreation office opens to the public during our registration period, appointments will need to be arranged prior to arriving at the office. 2 WAIVERS - All participants will be asked to sign/acknowledge a COVID-19 waiver. When registering online it is part of the waivers you agree to at the time of registration. If you are submitting a “hard copy” registration form, please make sure to also print and sign the COVID-19 waiver. 3 WELLNESS CHECKS - Participants will be asked to sign a 14-day wellness check, which will include the following: A. Has the participant had any of the following symptoms over the past 14 days that are not caused by another condition? • Fever (temperature of 100.4 degrees or above) • Flu-like symptoms (such as diarrhea, fatigue, chills, sore throat, nausea or vomiting, headache, cough) • Shortness of breath or other difficulties breathing • Loss of smell or taste B. Has the participant had close contact with anyone with confirmed COVID-19 in the past 14 days? C. Has the participant tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 14 days? D. Has the participant traveled recently? If so, has he/she followed the instructions per the guidelines from NY state COVD-19 Travel Advisory? 4 PRE-CLASS CHECK – Prior to the start of every class, each participant needs to check in with the instructor and provide a verbal wellness check. 5 MASK WEARING - Participants will be required to wear masks/face coverings upon arrival and departure from the program. In some cases, participants will be required to wear a mask throughout the program. 6 HAND SANITIZER – Hand sanitizer will be provided, and your instructor or coaches will have it available upon entry into class. 7 BEFORE PROGRAM BEGINS – A few days before programs begin, a Bedford Recreation staff member will e-mail you any additional information that is required to attend the scheduled program. 4
special programs BABYSITTING SKILLS COURSE Instructor: Nicole Caviola In this class, students will learn the skills necessary to babysit children of all ages. Instruction includes respon- sibilities of the sitter, handling emergencies, simple first aid, feeding, diapering, bedtime and playing. All students will receive a certificate of completion. This program is also suitable for children who may not be ready to babysit but who are ready to be left alone at home. FOR: BOYS & GIRLS, AGES 11 – 14 DAYS: WEDNESDAY & THURSDAY DATES: APRIL 28 & APRIL 29 TIME: 5:00 – 9:00pm LOCATION: BEDFORD HILLS TRAIN STATION ACTIVITY #: 152101A FEE: $80 – Residents / $100 – Non-Residents NOTE: You must be 11 years old by the start of the class and be present both days in order to become certified. Please bring: pencil, baby-sized doll, dinner, drink, snack each night. FISHING DERBY Program Supervisor: Jim Whiting We are thrilled to be holding our 20th Annual Fishing Derby at Lake Marie. This very popular program is open to all residents up to age 15. Bring the whole family and enjoy the beautiful weather as young anglers race to land the prize-winning fish! Volunteers from the Sportsman’s Club of Northern Westchester will be on hand to help youngsters bait hooks, as well as provide fishing tips to first timers. Prizes will be awarded throughout the day. All participants must supply their own fishing pole. FOR: CHILDREN UP TO AGE 15 (Children under the age of 8 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.) Participants will be informed of any health and safety requirements prior to the program. NORTH EAST WESTCHESTER SIX W EEK L ONG SPECIAL RECREATION Executive Director: Ellie Arnemann North East Westchester Special Recreation, an agency supported and sponsored by the Town of Bedford, is available to children and adults with developmental disabilities from our community. The North East program offers a variety of year-round recreational activities, including a six-week Summer Day camp for all ability levels, designed with the specific support needed for participant success in this environment. Programs are highly structured, staffed and closely supervised. Program goals may focus on teaching skills, fostering fun and friendships or teaching and correct- ing social or behavioral deficiencies. For more information call (914) 347-4409. Employment opportunities, community service credit, educational internships and a variety of volunteer experiences are also available. 5
preschool programs PRESCHOOL DANCE, AND MOVEMENT Instructor: Lauren Muccino Dancers come and move! Class will start with warm- up stretches and then we will grove to the beat of the music. Attire is comfortable clothing that can stretch (no jeans) and sneakers. Dancers should bring a towel. Learn first-hand about all the changes that are taking place as spring turns to summer. Hike out into the woods to learn about mammals, birds, plants and many other natural wonders. Get your hands dirty exploring a pond, hike in the footsteps of wild animals and build a wilderness fort. Discover something new each week! preschool programs TINY CHAMPS (spring and Summer program) Conducted by: MMA Westchester The Tiny Champs program is specially designed for 3 and 4 year olds. It is an excellent way to introduce your children to martial arts. Here they are taught basic martial arts in a fun and friendly environment. The instructors work on building confidence in a safe and friendly manner. The kids are taught respect, balance and concentration. These classes will help develop your child’s motor skills, focus, and discipline, while learning the fundamentals of martial arts in a fun environment. The foundation that Tiny Champs receive in this class will serve as building blocks for practic- ing martial arts and help students on the way to a black belt one day. MMA Westchester runs this class year round and we join into an existing program. A uniform is included in the price of the program. OUT HUSTLE JUNE BASKETBALL CLINIC youth programs Conducted by: Out Hustle Athletics Are you looking for a basketball skills program? Out Hustle Athletics is excited to provide a Spring Skill Session program. All athletes will participate in basketball skill development specifically designed to improve their individual skills. Curriculum and daily lessons will be planned to accommodate social distancing guidelines. However, parents should be aware that limited frequency of closer spacing is possible at times but will try to be avoided at all times. No LIVE GAMES will be played. All athletes must provide their own basketball and water bottle for safety purposes. All athletes must wear a mask during the session. All equipment will be cleaned prior, during and after each session. We are super excited for this program and can’t wait to get started. We will learn the basics of performing, through games, scene studies and acting exercises. Our final class will be a live streamed performance to an invited audience. No experience necessary. Students learn about self-discipline and the core values of a black belt. Whether you have been playing chess for your entire life and want to improve, are brand new to the game, or you just want to have a fun experience with your friends, Chess Wizards is the place for you! FALL FLAG FOOTBALL and CHEERLEADING youth programs Bedford Recreation will be working with Skyhawks Sports Academy to offer a Flag Football and Cheerleading programs in the fall of 2021. FLAG FOOTBALL Experience the excitement of football with Skyhawks Flag Football Fueled by USA Football. Using a curriculum developed by the experts from USA Football, coaches will teach skills like passing, receiving, kicking and flag pulling. Participants will gain confidence and learn important life lessons in a fun, positive environment. CHEERLEADING This class teaches young athletes the essential skills to lead the crowd and support the home team! Each participant will learn cheers, proper hand/body movements and jumping techniques. There is no stunting, just a big focus on fun while each cheerleader learns important life skills such as teamwork and leadership. The program concludes with a final cheer performance. Please contact them for more information https://www.townofpoundridge.com/recreation or call 914-764-3987 FOR: GRADES 1 – 6 PRIDE DIVISION GRADES 7 – 9 TOURNAMENT DIVISION GIRLS & BOYS FALL FIELD HOCKEY GRADES 2 & 3 • GRADE 4 • GRADES 5 & 6 Bedford Field Hockey is a skills-based program that works with those who have never played the sport before to those who are looking to improve their skill level. Emphasis is placed on stick skills, game knowledge, teamwork and conditioning. We hope to have additional play time on the turf in collaboration with John Jay High School for the 2021 fall season. As well as anticipate several scrimmages planned against local recreation teams Players must provide their own stick, shin guards, mouth guard and eye guard. summer camp TOWN DAY CAMP (for children in grades 1–7) Join us this summer to explore, create and discover! At the town of Bedford camps, children are offered a wide variety of activities that add up to a well-balanced experience, which includes daily swimming, along with an ever-changing mix of activities such as sports, outdoor games, board games, science, and arts and crafts. Special activities, and visiting performers, will help spice up our routine throughout the summer. Our day camps are located in our hamlet parks and offer wide open spaces for creative and productive ways to play and have fun. Campers are typically grouped by grade and gender, but there are times when we combine grades and/or gender. The town day camp is available for kids entering first through seventh grade. Remember to apply sunscreen at home and to pack a spray-on sunscreen every day, as well as a swimsuit, a towel, lunch, a snack and a beverage. Label all of your child's possessions. TOWN TINY TOTS (for children ages 3–5) Even preschoolers deserve a cool camp experience, and this popular Tiny Tots program provides the perfect spot for little ones to learn and grow. This half-day camp is designed for campers to explore their world and socialize with friends. Counselors guide children through traditional camp experiences, including music, art, dramatic play, manipulative story time, group games, craft projects and more. In addition, entertainers and special themed days enrich the program. All activities are designed to excite campers, teach new skills, encourage cooperative play and inspire smiling faces. Tiny Tots is structured with a 15-minute arrival period, followed by four 30-minute activity periods, with a snack break in the middle. We end the day with a 15-minute dismissal period, which often includes announce- ments and distribution of flyers and parent pickup info. The counselor/ camper ratio is planned at 1:8. Please make sure you review the parent handbook and calendar online in May for more information and special events. *Campers must be 3 years old by June 30 and fully toilet trained (no Pull Ups) to enroll in the Tiny Tots Camp. 16
DAY CAMP & TINY TOTS - 2021 summer camp Registration will start April 19 REGISTRATION INFORMATION: • All camp registration will be handled though our online registration program Rec Trac. • Registration will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis. • Camp Registration will begin MONDAY, APRIL 19th at 10:00am. • Space is limited at each location * (BHDC – 134, KDC – 120, BVDC-79) (Tiny Tots numbers cannot been determined until we finalize a location). • Day Camper will need to pre-purchase a pool pass before you can register for camp. • Present a copy of child birth certificate (Tiny Tots only). • Pay all necessary fees associated with selected camp program when registering. After you are registered for camp you MUST complete the official camp registration forms, as well as submit a doctor signed copy of your child’s immunization records. REFUND POLICY: DAY CAMP and TINY TOTS • Refunds are given only if requested before the first day of camp with a $50 camp processing fee. • Refunds are not available after camp is in session, unless a medical reason is provided with appropriate documentation. • Refunds are not available for those who cannot attend camp do to a COVID positive test or exposure that requires quarantine. • All requests must be submitted in writing/email to recreation@bedfordny.gov • There is a $50 processing fee per child request. COVID-19 POLICIES FOR CAMP summer camp Children will be grouped in group sizes from 10 – 15 campers with two counselors. They will not be able to cross paths or interact with anyone outside their groups while at camp. Group requests cannot be accommodated. Groups will be made according to the camper’s grade entering in the fall and by gender. There may be times we need to mix grades and gender because of group size allowances. Arrival and dismissal times will be staggered and assigned by June 25th. (Arrival: 8:55 - 9:25am, Dismissal: 2:35 – 3:00pm) There will be no field trips or camp carnival. Camp will be cancelled on inclement weather days. A Covid-19 waiver/agreement will be required at the time of registration. A daily wellness check will be done every day for campers and counselors. For campers, a form will need to be handed in each day, and a temperature check will be done when arriving at camp. Campers will be required to sanitize their hands after each activity. Campers will be required to wash their hands with soap and water before eating. Campers will be required to wear a face covering throughout the day (exceptions are when eating lunch and swimming). Supplies will be separated per group or individual (bagged sports supplies per group; art supplies, etc.). When supplies will be shared between groups, all supplies will be sanitized before and after use. Parents will need to keep a 14-day health log prior to camp starting (June 15th – 28th) This log must be brought the first day your child attends camp. Parents will need to agree not to send their child to camp while sick or experiencing any Covid-19 or Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome (MIS-C) symptoms. All staff members will be wearing face coverings at all times. Campers will be required to bring their own water for the entire day. Swimming will be allowed: Camp will have exclusive use of the pool from 9:15am – 12:30pm daily. Campers will receive a 30-minute swim time each day (weather permitting). Swim time will be split between lessons and free swim. Campers will need to wear their bathing suit to camp as we will have limited time in the pool. After swimming there will be limited time to change. We will try to make changing accommodations but are recommending that kids finish the day in their suits. Activities will be limited to what is being allowed by the Westchester Health department. Games deemed moderate to high risk have not been deemed safe to play at camp. If you need to pick your child up before regular dismissal, arrangements will need to be made with the camp director. 19

POOL INFO and PROGRAMS Welcome to Bedford’s pools! Splish, splash get your pass & join us this summer at the pools! Find answers to many frequently asked questions in the “Did You Know” section to help make your summer pool experience more enjoyable. Did You Know???? • The town of Bedford has 3 beautiful pool facilities for our residents to enjoy. • You must have a valid pool membership to use our pools OR you may come as a guest of a pool member who has a valid membership & you must pay the daily guest fee. • There is no daily walk-in fee. • ”Membership has its privileges,” and as a member you can use ANY hamlet pool. • All pool members, ages 2 (by 12/31 in the current year) and above, must have a photo ID card. • To gain entrance into the facility, all pool members must bring their ID card on every visit & present it to the gate attendant on duty at check-in. • All participants of swim & dive teams, Day Camps, Little Dolphins, Story-Times/Lunch Bunch, Adult Early Morning Swim and Deep Water Workout must have a valid pool membership. • ID cards must be brought and scanned when attending any program within the pool facility. • If you are a camp counselor going to the pool after camp, you need a valid pool membership. • Replacement/lost card fee is $15. • If you wish to leave & re-enter the facility, get your hand stamped or present your pool ID card again. • Pool members may bring up to 6 guests per household. • Guest discount cards are available for members to purchase at the Recreation office. • Pool members are responsible for their guests. • Guests must enter/exit with the pool member and pay the appropriate daily guest fee, or use a guest discount card. • Only pool members who are age 12 and older are allowed guest privileges. • If you had a membership the previous year you can renew your same type of membership either online or through the mail (please include copies of 2 proofs of residency, which are required). • If you had a membership the previous year but would like to purchase a different type of membership (eg: from individual to family) you must email or call our office. • New residents to the town must create an account with the town by visiting www.bedfordny.gov//departments/recreation-parks/ and provide 2 proofs of residency. • If you haven’t had a membership in several years, please call the office at (914) 666-7004. • 2 proofs of residency are required (eg: utility bill & car insurance/registration). • A driver’s license and anything with a PO Box is NOT accepted as proof of residency. • A separate registration form & check is required for pool registration. • Payment in full is required at the time of registration. • EARLY BIRD DISCOUNT registration dates: March 30 – May 6 until 4:00pm. • Regular rates go into effect after 4:00pm on May 6. 30 POOL INFO & PROGRAMS
