KEY NOTE SPEAKERS Angelina Ireland - Tuesday evening President of the Delta Hospice "Angelina considers her successful marriage and family to be her greatest achievement. However, Delta Hospice also holds a special place in Angelina’s heart, causing her to want to be more than a silent supporter of the Society, particularly during a time when outside forces are determined to change the mandate of the Society. “outside the box” approaches are very helpful in problem solving. As a member of the Delta Hospice Board, Angelina would have passion for the organization, belief in its mandate and, when required, be an advocate and defender." Rod Leader - Wednesday evening Leader of the Christian Heritage Party of Canada Vision for the Future in the Battles of Today CHP Leader Rod Taylor will speak on the fact that we often do not know—in the natural—what lies ahead as we plan and work for cultural transformation in Canada. How can we know the obstacles we will face? Yet our God calls us to action, even when we “see through a glass darkly”. We need His wisdom to be able to move forward; our own understanding is inadequate. God Himself is the light on our path and promises to lead us as we trust Him. Ron Gray - Tuesday Luncheon Ron Gray was born in Vancouver, BC. He was a reporter for the Vancouver Sun when the late, great Jack Webster was its city editor. He also worked for the Chilliwack Progress, Richmond Review and Fiji Times as reporter, photographer Vancouver, then joined the trade commissioner service of the federal government; he was assigned to open and manage a Later he helped launch a new federal agency called Information Canada (the precursor of today’s Service Canada) Winnipeg and Vancouver. 8
He also served as Public Relations and Publications Director on the founding administration of Fraser Valley College, precursor of today’s University of the Fraser Valley; then served in a similar capacity at Trinity Western University in Langley, BC. from 1983 to 1993. In the 1988 federal election, he was a candidate for the CHP at Chilliwack, BC. In 1995, he was elected National Leader of the CHP, a position he held until 2008. Since then he has been active in the BC wing of the CHP, and worked with Roadkill Radio on the Internet, and with Culture Guard. He is an elder at Shabbat Shel Shalom (“Sabbath of Peace”) Messianic Fellowship in Abbotsford BC, where he lives with his wife of 35 years, Janet. Currently, Ron is on the Board of Compass Community Learning Centres, a new venture working to provide a Bible-based alternative to the taxpayer-supported public school system, WORKSHOPS Workshop # 1 - Irving Hexham Irving Hexham Professor of Religious Studies University of Calgary, Calgary, Alberta Canada, T2N 1N4 Phone residence: 01-403-241-1059 Fax residence: 01-403-547-6442 E-Mail; hexham@ucalgary.ca Web Sites: http://www.christianpilgrim.com Irving was born in Whitehaven, Cumbria, England, and spent his childhood in various parts becoming a manager with the North Western Gas Board (NWGB) and then a lecturer in gas technology. When he was eighteen, Irving experienced an evangelical conversion as a result of the open air preaching by Val Grieve and members of the Cheadle Parish Church (Anglican) youth group. This event radically changed his life. Following his conversion, he participated in the Billy Graham Greater Manchester Crusade. Later, while still an apprentice, he was sent by the NWGB to Berlin, Germany, on an industrial study tour. This event brought him face to face with the challenge of Marxism and secular ideologies to Christianity. Around the same time two of his Christian friends, who were studying theology at Durham University with the intention of becoming Anglican ministers, lost their faith. This was the result of their encounter with Biblical criticism. His search for answers to the intellectual problems they presented to him led Irving to contact Dr. Clark Pinnock who was a junior lecturer at Manchester University and well-known Christian speaker. He recommended that Irving visit the Swiss L’Abri to discuss these problems with Francis Christian Heritage Party of Canada Vision for the Future Convention 2021 9
with apologetics and a living faith. He encouraged him to give up his newly appointed management position with the NWGB and go to university with the intention of obtaining a PhD and becoming a Christian academic. Since then, Irving has sought to speak into the secular arena from a Christian perspective and help Christians strengthen their faith. Recently Irving came to the realization that while many non-Christian religions, new religions, and even the forces of secularism, tap Christian cultural roots, few Christians are even aware of the rich resources of their own tradition. Therefore, he saw the need to awaken an awareness of the riches of Christianity’s historic, cultural, and spiritual heritage. To this end, he developed the Zondervan Christian Travelers Guides series, followed by his Understanding World Religions (2011) and Encountering World Religions (2019) both of which are published by Zondervan. Most recently he has lectured for the Canadian branch of L’Abri where his lecture on Tom Paine and the anti-Christian movement can be found online: https://www.canadianlabri.org/. Workshop # 2 - Jojo Ruba Christ for everyday conversations. He has spoken at venues that include Sunday morning services, secular debates at universities and morning chapels at Christian schools. Jojo focuses on practical ways to defend the faith. He teaches Christians how to explain their worldview using tools that non-Christians can understand. For example, he helps audiences think of the right questions to ask non-believers, not just the right answers they ought to give. Jojo earned a Bachelor of Journalism and a Masters in Political Science from Carleton University in Ottawa. He is executive director of Faith Beyond Belief, based in Calgary, AB, Canada. 10
