So while her days currently look a lot different than they used to, some of her favorite things to do in her free time include taking her two dogs out to hike the many trails in Austin and trying out the amazing restaurants this city has to offer. Growing up, she was lucky to have a family that introduced her to theatre and fostered her continued interest, so she is very excited for the opportunity to join the board at ZACH. Married for 40 years to Alfred R. Herrera, an Austin Attorney at The Herrera Law Group, they have a son, Sergio, who completed the JD/MBA program at Texas Tech University. With over twenty-three years of service to the State of Texas, Marisela retired from work in state government in 1999. Among her accomplishments during her 23-year tenure, Marisela worked for Jim Hightower at the Texas Agricultural Commission; the Governor's Office under the Ann Richards’ Administration where she was also part of the Governor's transition team; and the Texas Lottery Commission as part of the Lottery's start-up team. During her time with all of these agencies Marisela served as an Executive Assistant of Operations in which her primary duties involved matters dealing with Budget and Planning, Accounting, Human Services, IT, and Purchasing. After retiring from State employment in 1999, Marisela worked as a Home Mortgage Consultant with Royal Bank of Canada and with Wells Fargo.
